Blade Runner: Best Sci-Fi Movie Ever (according to..)

Blade Runner over ESB and ANH? Moviefone fails a cold long death.

2001 was number 20 or something? Wow, I bet they've never seen it. Just listing off well known sci-fi film over the past years and listing them.

And Metropolis isn't on there?

blade runner is certainly the best sci-fi film of all time. i would rank it rather generously on my list of all time favorite films. i still need to see the final cut though.

I would agree that BR was the best Sci-Fi film if Alien, Aliens and Predator had never been made. Otherwise I consider Alien, Aliens and Predator to be better.

of course Blade Runner is one of the best sci fi films of all time.
The music alone in that film simply destroys anything thats ever been done in Sci Fi,
even the great Star Wars comes up a short.

Just listen and watch Vangelis's music in Blade runner, and then watch how the movie is propelled by the story and the score.

Truly remarkable stuff.

But Star Wars is unbelievable too, as is Terminator 2.

All of these movies are incredible, but Blade Runner shades it in my opinion ever so slightly

there hasn't been anything like it before it or after it.

Blade Runner sucks :) Sure its shot beautifully and well made but the story is such crap. The dialog makes me laugh, its like Ridley Scott opened up a PHL100 text-book and just started copying and pasting. I think of Blade Runner as one of those movies people watch because it makes them feel sophisticated kind of like V for Vendetta but its nothing but juvenile poppy-cock....

2001 Space Odyssey, Day Earth Stood Still, Alien, Matrix, and Terminator 2 are all class though. Star Wars is not science fiction...

I cant beleive 2001 isn't on the top ten.
Btw, La Jette...very unpopular short film...is a PIONEER for scifi films imo!

And some good new sci-fi flicks:
- Sunshine
- K-PAX
- Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (more romance but whatever)

And they REALLY didn't put JURASSIC PARK in there?...but they give Galaxy Quest a spot?

This is a list I agree with. Sad so many don 't seem to think so. But this list is quite true. Odd that 2001 is not on there, I would say it deserves to be up there on the top 10. But Number One has always been Blade Runner to me. A powerful film that is deep and just amazing on every level. For over 20 years I have watched it again and again, and it just gets deeper and deeper. A true masterpiece.

Its fine you don't like it, but to say that its noting but juvenile poppy-cock....yea I would not even go there. Cool to have your opinion, but quite low for you to try and pin, that people that watch this movie are juvenile wannabe "smart" people. Yea I have watched this film for years, I may not be the smartest guy in the world, hell I'm probably not as smart as you. Maybe don't really know ya. But for the sake I will assume you are quite an intelligent person from all the great things I have seen you say. ;) But the film is a very intelligent film. And just cuz you don't like it does not mean you can call people that do love the film, pretty much "idiots". ;)

Metropolis did make the list (#12 I believe)
Thats what I felt about it, they just ran down a list of well known sci fi films.Theres no way in hell a piece of crap like Galaxy Quest is even in the same league as films like Predator and Enemy Mine

As a science fiction film, Blade Runner succeeds where no other film could, by actually predicting and shaping the future that came after it (William Gibson was the one who pointed this aspect of the film out). A lot of other movies are better suspense movies (Alien, the Thing), better action movies (Matrix, Terminators) or better dynastic romances (Star Wars) but in terms of doing what a SF movie is supposed to, to give us insight into the present and future consequences of technology, BladeRunner is in a class by itself.

Funny, I didn't care for the music in Blade Runner. It's a good film, but not the godly film that everyone makes it out to be.

My TOP5:

1. Terminator 2
2. Star Wars V
3. Aliens
4. Blade Runner
5. The Matrix

You didn't like the Vangelis score? :wow:

I truly love Blade Runner, not sure if it's #1 for me, though. It probably is.

Hmm...honestly...I think Blade Runner is OK...a little dry. No where near as good as many other sci-fi films.

Erm...what? Says who?

Well, I know there are different cuts of the film. I watched the final cut and I didn't really like it. Just seemed out of place to me.

You're talking about the film or about the score? :hehe:

Have many times have you seen it?

The thread says enough for me. I agree. The list isn't put together how I'd want but it's pretty good.

I love Blade Runner.

That's a pretty respectable list. I think Alien is a tad overrated, but I understand its signifigance.

I think E.T. and Close Enounters of the 3rd Kind should be on there, definitely E.T.

Honorable mentions: Minority Report, Gattica,Total Recall

The score. I've only seen it once. But the score didn't sit well with me. It just felt like your average eighties score surrounded by fantastic looking sets. It just didn't fit for the tone of the film IMO.

V for Vendetta makes one feel sophisticated?
