Superman has "left" for extended periods of time before in the comics. Multiple times, in fact.

And there's now a kid in the comics.

Are you sure this "true spirit of Superman" of yours actually exists?

I'm certain it does.

Would you care to discuss the circumstances of Superman leaving Earth in the comics? I contend that it is not simply leaving, but how he leaves. What does he tell his friends and family?

That new kid in the comics is not SUperman's. I don't even think he will turn out to really be Kryptonian. It's all too easy a set up. I feel the same with Batman's kid over in his title. The twist usually doesn't come in the firs issue of the story arc.

Superman and Superman Returns for me. But I have a feeling after seeing the Donner Cut of II, it will be right up there with the other 2.:word:

I can't wait for Donner's cut of Superman II, I just hope that it will be as great as everyone hopes, because I would hate for us all to be disappointed.

46% to 36%??!! STM is hips, chest, head and shoulders above the sorry excuse for a Superman movie that SR was! Mucho crack is being smoked here by some voters.

It's almost like they have an opinion of their own, huh?

This is a little against the grain but:

1)Superman 3

2)Superman 1/ Superman 2...Tie

3)Superman 4

4)Superman Returns (I usually pretend this one doesn't exist)

If you watch S3 as just an awsome movie that happens to have Superman in it, you'll definitely see why it's number 1.

STM and S2 are almost right up there with S3

S4 is very corny I agree, but the fact that it has Reeves puts it ahead of SR.

And as for SR...Superman in the hospital??? Nuff said. Kate Bosworth and Kevin Spacey are the only thing good about this movie

1. Superman The Movie - still the greatest superhero film of all-time in my opinion. Will always be that special film for me that had me in awe as a child.

2. Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut - not quite the version of Superman II that I wanted to see for a long time but pretty darn close to it. The reuse of the turn back time ending lets it down abit (even if it was the original intended ending) and the scene used from the screen tests (great scene but the change in looks is very distracting). But that aside the fight in Metropolis with the added scenes I.e. the Punch (much better than the lane looking kick in Lester's version) and of course the Marlon Brando scenes make this the definitive version if Superman II.

3. Superman Returns - although the film has its problems Kate Bosworth as Lois Labe, the kid, no supervillain, the retread of the Donner films etc it still has some really great Superman moments and as a film I do like it a lot. The plane sequence is still the greatest scene I have ever seen in a film, it's just unbelievably epic. The elevator change and Spacey's Lex are highlights for me and I especially like Brandon Routh as Superman. The film does lag at the end but all in all it's a solid movie despite its problems.

4. Superman II - Richard Lester's version has a massive amount of problems that even bugged me as a child: Zod been able to levitate a gun, the cellophane S, the unbearable jokey moments I.e man on skates, man laughing in phone box etc and of course finally the memory kiss. Replacing Jor El with Superman's mother didn't have the same emotional impact it was at least plausible. But it is a fun movie, I even think the Eiffel Tower opening is much better than the opening to the Donner version, but it's hard to enjoy this film with its flaws.

5. Superman III - there is so much wrong with this film, boring villains, too many hokey moments ad if course the miscasting/misdirection of the use of Richard Pryor. However, this film does feature (in my opinion) the best if Chris Reeve's performances as the Man of Steel. The epic Clark Kent vs Superman scene and if course evil Superman were the highlights if the film. It's a shame the series lost its way so badly.

6. Superman IV: The Quest For Peace - just awful, the fx, the plot, the acting, one of the worst films I have ever seen. Such a shame cause there were good intentions.

1. Superman Returns.
2. Superman The Movie.
3. Superman 2 / Superman 2:The Richard Donner Cut.
4. Superman 3.
5. Superman 4.

I expect Man Of Steel to take number one position, soon.

Me too, I'm very optimistic and confident in Man of Steel.

Superman: The Movie
Superman II
Superman Returns
Superman IV: The Quest For Peace
Superman III

The bottom two are about even.

*Looks at poll result and the number of votes for SR contra STM and dies a little inside*

STM is a thousand toupees better than SR. Here is my ranking and rating of live-action Superman films!

1. Superman: The Movie – 10/10
2. Superman II: The Donner Cut – 8/10
3. Superman II – 7/10
4. Superman III – 5/10
5. Superman Returns – 4/10
6. Superman and the Mole Men – 4/10
7. Superman IV: The Quest for Peace – 2/10

Superman II
Superman
Superman IV
Superman III
Superman Returns

Superman I & II are two of my all time favorites.

:supes:

Superman II
Superman
Superman III
Superman Returns
Superman IV

I watched Superman III recently and I was surprised how well crafted it was. Don't get me wrong, but with some tweaks it could be the equivalent to the Batman 1966 movie (which I love). Lester's direction is very focused, though with a lot of slapstick, there are some very nice moments. Superman using creativity to save the people from the plant, freezing the lake and made it rain on the fire was just gold. Also the McGuffin of the acid was very well placed. The battle between Evil Supes and Clark was awesome too.

Reeve's performance is, as always, the highlight of the movie. Though it acts sometimes as a vehicle for Richard Pryor, he is very funny. Perhaps the biggest laugh I got was from the scene where he falls from the building. It was impossible, by even the laws of those crazy Otto Binder stories from the silver age, to survive, but I was rolling on the floor laughing.

There are things in Superman I and II I don't really like (like the time travel in the ending of the first, or the unexplainable Kryptonian powers of the second film) but is mostly nitpicking. I consider the Richard Donner cut to be the best, but then again is brought down by continuity.

I believe Superman IV had a lot of potential, the best is Lex and Superman's interactions. And though I like Superman Returns, it was a wasted opportunity, we needed something along the lines of Batman Begins and less of a homeage to the old films.

I voted Superman II, just for the villains
Everything else in the first film is better, even the visuals, I can say it's my favorite live action Superman film

I'll give them this ranking:
1. Superman the Movie
2. Superman: Doomsday
3. Superman/Batman: Public Enemies
4. Superman 2

I like Superman 3 as a movie
Superman 4 is silly entertainment

Superman
Superman Returns
Superman II (Donner Cut)
Superman II
Superman IV
Superman III

I put 4 over 3 , because conceptually there's a lot of good ideas ...they are simply terribly executed.

The third one has no redeeming qualities. Its more of a Pryor vehicle than a Superman story. And the villain goal is to control the production of....coffee. Coffee !

I watched the fourth one a few days , there's a scene where they reverse the shot when nuclear man attacks...it looks so bad , and a guy actually looks like he missed the movement he should have made , so when they reverse it it looks completely ridiculous :funny:

Currently, Superman: The Movie still reigns supreme.

Anxious to see in June if MOS can actually top it. We'll see.

I remember a scene from superman when i was a kid with him in a wheelchair at a hospital, crippled, in rehab, where the doctor had him test his heat vision and he couldnt even cut through pieces of paper. Anyone know what this is from?

That's the season two episode of Superboy titled Lex Luthor, Sentenced to Death. He's in a wheel chair cause in Part 1 titled With This Ring I Thee Kill Lex Luthor blasted him with a gun called the Superboy gun.
