Best Twist/Shock Endings

To add something new (hopefully) -- Following, Nolan's film before Memento.

Am I the only one that wasn't shocked by the ending's of a lot of these movies.....I predicted the end to "Psycho", "The Usual Suspects", "The 12 monkeys", "American Psycho" and well almost every movie with a "twist" before the first half was over....Hell I predicted the end to "The village" to a tee without seeing the movie *rolls eyes* very predictable but loved it all the same.

Psycho is so ingrained in our culture that it's hard not to predict the twist. I'm lucky I saw it when I was young.

I was about 10 when I saw Psycho, and I'm still shocked by it. It's the best pyschological thriller ever, in that ti takes you into the mind of the antagonist like no other film in history.

The Sixth Sense.
The Patriot.
The Missing.
Batman Begins.
Underworld Evolution.

BB wasn't so shocking twist, but I must admit it was excellent and logical twist.

i dont kare wut other people think... saw 1 and 2 had very very shocking endings. probably the best ones.

The Shinings ending was shocking and confusing.
I started watching this movie once on tv but for some reason i didn't finishe watching it. I think i'll rent that if its available at my local video shop.

Sad ending. The shock was ruined by Lisa Schwarzbaum from Entertainment Weekly, who hated the movie so much she gave the away the ending in her review of it to get people not see it.

Since then, I've always had a very low opinion of her as a critic.
That sucks:down and i agree about the ending.:(

It depends on how deep the storytelling is.Sometimes a director can fool you and i love that.
I don't think anyone could predict the way Saw ended though.Don't know anyone -who like or hated it- who predicted that.

BTW another depressing ending was The House of Sand and Fog.

The Shining

I must admit, I didn't see that coming. A bit marvelled, though. Jack was the first caretaker all along, correct? Well, that clears everything. Sort of. And I can't believe that I didn't rent nor buy this movie earlier. I'd walked past the Horror section and saw the box a few times, but was never really in the mood to rent it, regrettably.

Old boy hasn't been mentioned yet. The swimming pool. Photographing fairies. The machinist. The Brown Bunny. The Big Blue. Stay. One flew over the cuckoo's nest. Primer.

I wouldve said Empire strikes back but seeying how me and my friends accidently saw 6 instead of 5 I had ruined the end of 5 with the begining of 6. A great shocker was Dead man's chest! WHOAH! It was so sick! I was like  + :D at the same time I was like standing up, it was first showing of the movie 12:01. I honestly screamed out holy s**t! And when I saw ******* comming down those stairs I was like yes!!!!!!

Yes, I never saw the ending to SAW coming.

The best HOLY S**T twist was SAW, but for emotional value, SE7EN wins out for me.

I don't particularly like the Shining, so thats moot and the other twists whilst good, I care less about now upon repeat viewings.

end of days...who'd a thunk arnie would die in the way he did!!!

also back in the day..empire strikes back was a shock ending(someones said this already i know)

not so much an ending but the scene in sum of all fears caught me off guard when the bomb actually went off...didnt expect that one.

I knew Pay it forward would end like that. I told my friends that thekid would die and they were like shut up! And at the end when he died all the girls turned to me (while crying) and called me a jerk. HAHA

Snakes on a Plane...I mean, wtf?
Sam Jackson surfing came out of no where. Best twist ever!

The first ones that came to mind:

Serenity
Chaos
Pay It Forward
POTC 2
Se7en
