Bettie Page at 80

she is very beautiful. gorgeous body.

Bettie Page was very beautiful, yes, but I think the things that really made her so iconic was her brazen embrace of her own sexuality and her unabashed confidence in that, yet there was some part of her that was still very down to earth and playful...almost naive in some ways...about what she was doing.

I already read her biography and saw her THS (True Hollywood Story) on TV. She still is overrated. I mean for HER TIME she was a bombshell and stuff but now....seeing her pictures todays she looks pretty but obsolete. But what is it that people see in her today? What is it that is sooo special and unique from other people? If she had blonde hair would she have been pulled into osbscurity back in her time?

you're just trying to be controversial:)

stop being such a goth!

She set the standard for what so many regard as beautiful, though. You wouldn't HAVE today's standards if it weren't for her.

But that could be said about so many other women in her time as well. I see more women today who mimic Marilyn Monroe more than they do Betty Paige. What standards in beauty did Betty set up that others cannot be accredited to?

I've always been more drawn to the women who have figures similar to Page's than I have the rail-thin waifs who need to put down their coke straws and eat a sandwich. Curvy is sexy.

me too

Monroe didn't do bondage pics.

Name another woman from that time period who redefined America's views on sexuality like she did. You may not use Paula Klaw as an example, as she was so closely tied to Bettie Page and the blurring of the lines around sexuality she did through the photographs and movies that she made.

Marilyn Monroe. She was the first woman on Playboy and didn't have a problem of possible scrutiny for being an A-Class star and appearing nude at the time. She was proud of her body and embraced her sexuality by sharing it with others. More by sharing her nudity with others because she saw nothing to be ashamed of. Now I will accredit Betty with the whole bondage thing since that was mostly a Burlesque thing and she introduced it into the mainstream into the U.S.
