Spider-Man, Venom, Gravity and others go Beyond!

What happens when nine of Marvel's most combustible heroes and villains, including the likes of Spider-Man and Venom, are whisked away to the deadly artificial planet Batttleworld? Do their best to keep from killing each other of course!

A being of immeasurable power has gathered nine super beings against their will for a purpose beyond their comprehension. Can this group of Spider-Man, Venom, Gravity, the Hood, Medusa, Hank Pym, the Wasp, Kraven, and Firebird survive Battleworld and each other long enough to learn why they're there?

See what happens when cult-favorites like Gravity and the Hood mix it up with superhero legends like Hank Pym and the Wasp. Watch royalty meet the jungle in Medusa and Kraven. And will Venom just kill them all?

This summer, take a trip beyond with the most explosive assemblage of characters this side of the Real World.

and is that red and white guy venom?

I'll probably get this. McDuffie's name demands that I read it out of loyalty to Damage Control. Some points, though:

- What the hell is Pym wearing now? Goddamnit, get a costume and stick with it for more than a year's worth of issues already.
- That's not Venom.
- Who the hell is the Hood?

he had a minn. a few years back in the max comics, he was a just a street punk with a crazy mom, a knocked up girlfriend, and he was cheating on her too. then he got his hands on this red cloak that alowed him to become invisable and fly. his friend goes to jail for a crime that he did and he had to free him.

its a good read.

I'm on board for this, especially since McDuffie wrote a heck of a lot of good episodes of JLU. Plus, Spidey's in his ORIGINAL costume.

FYI, The Hood was covered in ALL-NEW OHBOTMU #5, which just went on sale. In a mini series written by Vaughan (before RUNAWAYS was even a twinkle in his eye), a lowly street theif happens upon a mystical hooded cloak that enembles him to turn invisible (so long as he holds his breath), walk on air and even fire electric bolts from his hands. He uses it to steal some gems, but runs afoul of other crooks who'd wanted them, namely Shocker, Constrictor, and their boss. In the end he manages to overcome these threats, but promises a beloved relative that he'd use his new powers to help others.

He sounds like a bit of an ass. I guess I'll see what he's like in Beyond.

It's not Eddie Brock Venom.... it's Mac Gargan Venom. ;)

I'm really looking forward to this... though it seems too much like the original Secret Wars.

:)

Exactly. Hence, it's not Venom.
Well no technically Themanofbat is right. Venom is defined by the suit, not the wearer....Venom could be anyone for all intents and purposes.

Plus, its more of Gravity that's IN CONTINUITY (unlike the great "LOL" arc in MTU). I'm all for some new blood in the MU. McDuffie showed he can mix icon heroes and up-and-comers in JLU, even if you barely know much about them.

great art. should be good story. gettin this day one....nuff said

I wonder who the being of unimaginable power is....sigh.

It also looks like another break from the "grim and angtsy" CIVIL WAR stuff and offers clean ol' Marvel superheroism like MTU does, another plus. And, of course, Kolins does good artstuffs. Pym's outfit does look bizarre, though. The guy's almost had more looks than his wife. :p

looking forward to seeing The Hood again, he was a good concept

eh, maybe kind of. He was a villain after all. But the mini was a good read.

Spider-Man was still Spider-Man when he wore the symbiote. Venom is the symbiote + Eddie Brock, period. There's no point in arguing with me on this, it's one of my little fanboy quirks. I refuse to call anyone wearing the symbiote other than Eddie Brock "Venom." It's a specific character, not a name that can be passed around freely because Millar's gigantic ego declares Eddie Brock lame.

I cant wait for this!

One of the characters is supposed to be killed off by the 2nd issue? Any guesses which one?

Im thinking one of these three:

The Hood
Firebird
Mac Gargan

The Hood is very cool, and really hasnt had a chance to shine in the Marvel Universe yet, so i doubt it will be him. (at least, i HOPE not!)

Firebird is a bit boring, imo, but Marvel has so few hispanic characters, i think it would be a mistake to write one of the few they have off. She has potential, and has served as both a Texas Ranger and West Coast Avenger...

Things arent looking good for Gargan, lol. The powers that be at Marvel reduced him to "C" level DECADES ago, and with Eddie Brock about to make the scene in the Spidey movies, you can bet the farm that Marvel is set to restore him to Venom-status in the comics....and where will that leave poor little Mac Gargan?

Your thoughts...

the Hood only ever had one 6-issue mini which didn't do very well (if it had come out after BKV had his other sucesses, it would have done better). But he is most certainly an option for the character to be killed since he has no sales potential for marvel

However, he is very obscure with obvious character potential, I would imagine the author would have chosen him because he actually wants to do something with him, and not just kill him.

Deaths are usually done for shock value anyway, right? well there's very little shock value in killing a character hardly anyone knows.

Well, considering Firebird might be immortal they could 'kill' her off and then just bring her back.

anyone else thinking they might kill off gargon.. so venom can finds its way back to brock?

Looks like they just put the names of the most random-assed unused characters into a hat and drew out a bunch of them, then threw in Spidey for good measure.
Not bad, but still. Just not my bag.
