Beyond!

....and where will that leave poor little Mac Gargan?

Your thoughts...

Back in a Scorpion suit where he belongs...

:)

Oh yeah, the solicsits for #2 also mention a fight between Venom and Medusa....

Hmmmm, i wonder if Gargan will kill HER?

This looks interesting. I might pick it up as I've been curious about Mac Gargon as Venom and I was wondering about the Hood. I'll probably just skim it at the comic shop and decide then if I'll get it or not. I'll probably just end up waiting to hear reviews and pick up the trade if they're good.

I'm always in for something lighter when I'm in the middle of the more intense and gritty stuff like Civil War, something you can just relax and enjoy and this looks to be it, outside of the rest of the titles I'm getting. I'm interested to see where they go with VENOM (yeah, I said it) and damn, Medusa?! Heh, Black Bolt will not be happy about this, maybe he'll attribute it to the U.S. and push more of this from Son of M.

I'll definitely pick it up, my Damage Control membership contract demmands it.

btw, Hobbit your signature brought a tear to my eye. Beautiful man.

I agree with everything on the signature as well. :D Well, except I never read the Clone Saga.

I cant wait for this!

One of the characters is supposed to be killed off by the 2nd issue? Any guesses which one?

Im thinking one of these three:

The Hood
Firebird
Mac Gargan

The Hood is very cool, and really hasnt had a chance to shine in the Marvel Universe yet, so i doubt it will be him. (at least, i HOPE not!)

Firebird is a bit boring, imo, but Marvel has so few hispanic characters, i think it would be a mistake to write one of the few they have off. She has potential, and has served as both a Texas Ranger and West Coast Avenger...

Things arent looking good for Gargan, lol. The powers that be at Marvel reduced him to "C" level DECADES ago, and with Eddie Brock about to make the scene in the Spidey movies, you can bet the farm that Marvel is set to restore him to Venom-status in the comics....and where will that leave poor little Mac Gargan?

Your thoughts...

You theory also has a bit of symmetry if you think about the fact that it was the first Secret Wars that Spidey brought back the symbiote.

Other than the title itself, does this title have anything to do with the Beyonder. For that matter, is the Beyonder that they mention in Silver Surfer: Annhilation the same.

I was wondering the same thing.

just on a side note, i'm pretty sure Spider-Man is going to die by the end of the second issue.

(what with the cover of issue 2 being Spider-Man in Venom's mouth, and one of the first released teaser images was of Venom spearing Spider-Man through the chest...

Comics Continuum posted a 6 page preview of the comic in today's update:

It appears that Greg has told his ex-girlfriend (who he appears to have reconnected with) Lauren from his own mini about his heroic alter ego. I remember way back when superheroes used to resist telling others their identities for fear of putting them in danger or lack of understanding. Ah, how superheroics have changed since USM.

The art looks great.

As for potential "deaths", I do see Marvel pulling a 180 regarding the final fate of Eddie Brock, and we all know how weak-kneed they are about keeping 616 seperate from "movieverse". Look how quickly organic webbing came into Spidey-land, or black leather jackets with the X-Men after the first movie. They'll find a way to have Brock back being Venom before 2008, if not sooner. And this may be a good way to do it.

i'm surprised that nobody's brought up the fact that marvel's pretty much throwin it out there that this is a sequel to secret wars and secret wars II. and that the being of unimaginable power is the beyonder. u'd think that would be a big talking point.

Maybe, im not excited about this at all.

So was the Gravity mini good? I never got around to reading it.
meh. If you really want to read it, at least the digest is cheap

Yeah, the digest is like 8 bucks so I went ahead and ordered it. I'll probably get it next week, so I can always give you my thoughts then.

I like Scott Kolins art, and it looks interesting enough, so I'll buy it.

I figured that was understood. It's pretty obvious.

Considering that most attention is on ANNIHILATION and CIVIL WAR, it is easy to understand that "Secret Wars, Episode 3" may not bring much debate (especially since SECRET WAR, no "s", finished after being over a year late and is now in HC).

In a way I wonder what point there is to BEYOND!, since it doesn't seem to be set in either "big event" at Marvel and all, but to be frank I am so tired of "events" that I don't mind a simple, honest superhero mini that doesn't give a crap about where it stands in the Eventometer. Especially since MTU is on a downswing with the FREEDOM RING arc so far, and THE THING is limping off to die.

As for GRAVITY, most posters will go, "meh, it was just INVINCIBLE-Lite", but really, isn't every hero who debuted after the Silver Age a rip-off of someone else? Or even beforehand? I mean, that pesky Daredevil, he's only a Dr. Midnight-Lite, right? Incredibly, all the posters who whine and moan about there being "no new characters" were all but willing to shoot down GRAVITY before it could even start; most new characters take YEARS to hit their stride; it sure did with Wolverine. As for the mini itself, its a steal at $8 for a digest, and offers an enjoyable, if not predictable, little superhero "coming of age" tale with some great art. And its worth noting that Gravity is the only character from Marvel's failed "Marvel Next" line to ever be seen or heard from again.

X-23 was considered a Marvel Next I think, wasn't she? Anyhow, I may check it out. I like simple reads. Did they ever release it in a normal TPB format, or just the digest?

I don't recall. The Marvel Next titles I do recall were GRAVITY, MACHINE TEEN, LIVEWIRES, I think SPELLBINDERS, and something else; it could have been X-23. I don't count her as much because she wasn't a character made specifically for that line; she was created in "X-Men Evolution" and had previously shown up in UNCANNY X-MEN and MTU before getting her own mini. I also think for about a month RUNAWAYS was considered part of Marvel Next, but it was a shoehorn job. My point is that unless I am mistaken, Gravity's the only "original" character made in Marvel Next to appear somewhere else since.

I see. And Runaway swas never in the Marvel Next category... they were from that Tsunami line that Mystique, New Mutants, and Sentinel were a part of. (I think it was called Tsunami)
