Okay. I, for once, actually read the issue. It was at a con and they had blank sketch covers. I bought two. One to draw on, and one to keep....and draw on!
Well, it was actually pretty good! Ramos' artwork was a little more reigned in. Aunt May didn'y have the "puppy-dog eyes" she had in the "Death in the Family" arc from a few years back. Also, The civilians looked a little less like afterthoughts, and a little more like people. His style is muted a little in favor or readability. And that is DEFINITELY a good thing! I actually enjoyed his artwork immensely, here. As always, his backgrounds and layouts were the highlights, though. Truly awesome storytelling.
Storywise, I caught a similar feeling that I got when reading JMS's run when it started. It felt a lot like when Peter became a teacher. I thought, "FINALLY! Peter does something with his brain"! I know it can't last forever, but it's nice to see a new take.
I have two gripes about the whole issue. Anyone who knows me, knows who they were.
MJ's inclusion in the story was just a total slap in the face. I see it serving no purpose for fans nor detractors, as it basically is in there just to mock the new status quo. I enjoyed almost the entire issue except this part. DISTANCE, Marvel, DISTANCE!!!!
The other is Carlie Cooper. Of all the lame characters in the MU for him to hook up with, it had to be Gwen Stacy-lite. She was only in here for a page or so, and she was pretty annoying. However, I'm proud of Marvel for not forcing she and Peter into a live-in relationship this soon. It actually showed something in Carlie I have yet to see......character.
Anyways, a pretty solid issue overall. I actually enjoyed it. Not going to buy any more of them, but it was pretty cool. My two cents.
