The story isn't super spectacular, it starts with a rehash of so many stories, PJ/Ramos Octopus story comes to my mind

Somethings are slightly funny, some are just bland

I hope this Kingsley has nothing to do with Roderick, just some random new guy with the same last name

It's a good issue, 8/10

wow, this place is really dead, not a post on this forum for over a day.....

Look at the Countdown thread... :argh: :argh: :argh:

:cmad: :cmad:

:csad:

Aloha,
Don't be mad, look at how many people are viewing the Countdown thread:yay:.At this point, many people myself included are pretty sick of the subversives,so we just enjoy our Spider-Man comics without the drama. I've observed for some time now that when there is nothing to moan about, you don't get much interaction on the threads. Fans wanted Slott on Amazing-we got him. I hated Ramos-he's improved 100%- so nothing to complain about.
Spidey rules -Big Time!

Okay. I, for once, actually read the issue. It was at a con and they had blank sketch covers. I bought two. One to draw on, and one to keep....and draw on!

Well, it was actually pretty good! Ramos' artwork was a little more reigned in. Aunt May didn'y have the "puppy-dog eyes" she had in the "Death in the Family" arc from a few years back. Also, The civilians looked a little less like afterthoughts, and a little more like people. His style is muted a little in favor or readability. And that is DEFINITELY a good thing! I actually enjoyed his artwork immensely, here. As always, his backgrounds and layouts were the highlights, though. Truly awesome storytelling.

Storywise, I caught a similar feeling that I got when reading JMS's run when it started. It felt a lot like when Peter became a teacher. I thought, "FINALLY! Peter does something with his brain"! I know it can't last forever, but it's nice to see a new take.

I have two gripes about the whole issue. Anyone who knows me, knows who they were.

MJ's inclusion in the story was just a total slap in the face. I see it serving no purpose for fans nor detractors, as it basically is in there just to mock the new status quo. I enjoyed almost the entire issue except this part. DISTANCE, Marvel, DISTANCE!!!!

The other is Carlie Cooper. Of all the lame characters in the MU for him to hook up with, it had to be Gwen Stacy-lite. She was only in here for a page or so, and she was pretty annoying. However, I'm proud of Marvel for not forcing she and Peter into a live-in relationship this soon. It actually showed something in Carlie I have yet to see......character.

Anyways, a pretty solid issue overall. I actually enjoyed it. Not going to buy any more of them, but it was pretty cool. My two cents.

The real big thing that bothers me is that Pete is homeless...again....and is desperately seeking help and all MJ can do is LAUGH!!!
I am one of the few that am glad she in not Mrs. Watson-Parker anymore...i don't agree on how it went down though... And the fact that she hyphenated her name, it was like she knew it would end soon....Everybody i know IRL that has a married hypenated surname is now divorced....

Yeah, but he'll be getting a lavish apartment soon enough with his "work dough"...

:yay:

Aloha,
A new apartment as well as a new lease on life( for a while).Doc Ock acknowledges this man as a genius, and he can't figure out a way to get his life together? I don't think so.Here's what bothers me. Peter is now an Avenger. If he doesn't have access to the main HQ, he should still be able to access any of the Avenger Safe Houses in the city.He is considered "family" among the FF. They must have a way of him getting into the BB as often as they are out of the country and the world. As much as Reed Richards replenished the coffers of the FF with various inventions, Peter has a dissolving glue formula that has tremendous applications. He could use Richards as a proxy and market that formula to the construction industry along with any place where adhesives are used.Maybe under Slott, Big Time will actually be a Brand New Day for Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Spidey rules

I hope he stays in that job for at least 2 full decades in publishing time, he needed to stay in Tricorp IMO, that was wrong to undo, now I hope this job sticks more since his working hours are fluid
Why do you keep saying 'Aloha' Don?

Donald's been doing that for 8 years now. It's his thing, along with closing with "Spidey rules". :)

I totally agree with his line ending his posts

He lives in Hawaii... they all say "aloha" in Hawaii...

:yay:

Peter didn't have his "dream job" when he was bumming for a place to stay... plus he's done it a few times before, and you would think that if I were one of Peter's friends, who knows how smart this guy is, why does he struggle to make ends meet? It would be frustrating... they might be saying "No" out of tough love...

Thought I'd post my review of 649 here. I was thinking of starting a new thread, like we used to do for each issue, but I guess this thread will do. I'll spoilerize since the thread title doesn't make that clear:

Amazing Spider-Man #649 - If this issue is an indication of things to come, I'm very happy. I've always been a fan of sub-plots, and this issue seems to be setting them up left and right. You have Pete at his new job (struggling), a Hobgoblin (or two) and some new weaponry, JJJ being asked by Steve Rogers to publicly thank Spidey (with an assist from son John), you have Norah chasing after the Goblin gangstas, Spidey and BC teaming up, Kingpin treating Kingsley like his *****, and some new cast members at Horizon. Whew. That's a lot for one issue. But it doesn't seem rushed or forced. All that said, there was nothing internets-breaking about the issue. Just good storytelling that makes me want two weeks to be one.

Other than that, I'll add:

I think some people might be upset with the new direction for Phil Urich. I'm not. This wasn't exactly a character that I was in love with, and I think he could make an interesting Hobgoblin from here on. I mean, once you behead someone, there's no going back to being a good guy!

No ****!!! and when that person is Roderick Kingsley, you've certainly made a name of yourself

I hope it was more of Kingsley's misdirection, and that it was his twin brother Daniel. But that's just me wishing. It also seems to me like Spidey's new glowing black suit will be able to block out sonics.

honestly i face palmed at the big shocker moment, that is so gonna bite them in the ass

Phil as Hobgoblin works because he was going crazy at the end of Loners, so that's fine. Why the need to kill Kingsley though? It could be a ruse, but it's a waste of a character and seems to be one of those 'needlessly kill a big character to make another character look biggger.'

And whatever happened to Penance/Hollow who he was last seen running away with while still powerless

Just thought of that.

Really am enjoying this arc... a lot.

But if Kingsley is dead, that will be very disappointing. He deserves a better death than that. How do you bring back a character from years of limbo and kill him after 5 pages?
