Big Trouble in Little China remake with The Rock

I love The Patriot. Nothing to feel guilty for about that.

Another souless/empty remake if it even hits the screens.

PS : Soldier doesn't "suck".

Well its an Emerich movie, you kind of feel guilty now a days if you like one of his movies. But that one is quite different from the others hes done, and Isaacs is just chewing evil British scenery like no other (no offense to the Brits here)

It's funny thinking back to Carpenter's commentary on the original he said Jack Burton was actually the side-kick. I wonder if they'll go down that route?

Since The Rock is producing, in addition to starring, I would assume so. He'll still be the main draw, but he hasn't played a role like that (he was either the star, part of an ensemble cast or a hyped-up cameo) and he probably wants to try it.

Jack Burton is the sidekick in diagetic terms (i.e. a person who exists within the fictional universe would perceive him to be the follower). From the audience's perspective, however, he is the "hero" of the story.

Just looking at the cast from Egg to Lo Pan's sons, there's just no way to top the original. The best thing they could do is go for different themes and style like the Robocop remake.

Can't wait to see the origins of Jack Burton's tank top and Snake Plissken's eye patch!

I can't get on board the pork chop express for this one

Don't be surprised if FOX stack this move with talent just to get people to come and see it and with The Rock involved I'm sure they will.

I can get behind this just for the Rock. It is still crazy to think that he is a bonafide movie star. I still remember "Rocky sucks". Awesome for him.

I'm actually fine with this. In fact, I think the casting is great. In the original Kurt at the time was considered really hot and charismatic with a good sense of humor. Dwayne is the same in those regards. As long as the tone is similar it could be really fun.

When the big machine comes for all of your precious childhood loved films. I will be there and laugh, just like ya'll rally for this remake of a classic. I can't help but weep.

Hold me, Ja Rule.

I'm glad you mentioned him, at this important time has anyone gotten Ja Rule's thoughts on this remake?

Ja Rule is said to be Furious, but Between You and Me he Cry at this news.

Yeah I'm happy for him too. He's a really sweet enthusiastic dude too and I do enjoy him in films as opposed to just as a wrestler when I was younger and into that.

What's this? Six Degrees of Kurt Russel?

Jar Jar Rule would suck in any movie.

Anyway I think some people secretely have a morbid curiousity about this remake.

I love BIG TROUBLE....saw it a half dozen times at the theater, have the special edition DVD, posters, lobby cards.....fantasticly fun movie. It will be hard to watch a remake.
One of my favorites too. Every few years I'll rewatch it just because it's so fun.

With Dwayne Johnson and these writers it does not sound like a terrible remake but like with so many of the other remakes going on I am definitely not all on board with it. It'll be hard to recreate that 80's feel of this movie.

You might want to blank some of the bad words in that PunyGod. Just a heads up.

I think a problem with remaking some of these 80s flicks (outside of 90% of them being crap) is that alot of them didn't grab their fanbase till years or even decades later. Too many people discovered these films late in the game and are still very young. If your pissing off people in their 20's then isn't that a big sign?

It's such a weird time. We can get the original Han Solo, original Ash or have recasting like with Mad Max while it is still in continuity with the original Director... yet we have to completely erase everything about Ghostbusters and Big Trouble.

Russell should be passing the torch to the Rock if Fox wants a franchise imo. Or they can just team up for one flick.

He generally doesn't care about remakes unless he's supposed to be paid...

http://collider.com/john-carpenter-interview-the-ward-they-live/

What did you think of them going back to the source material for They Live, as opposed to just remaking it?

CARPENTER: Well, they are paying me. There are two kinds of remakes of my films – the good kind, and the bad kind. They just did a prequel to The Thing. That’s the bad kind because I don’t have any rights in it, so they don’t pay me. If they do Escape from New York or They Live, or any of the other movies that I wrote and have a more primal position in, I get a check. Something that I’ve wanted to do all my life is to make money doing nothing.
