The Dark Knight Biggest Disappointment

So basically we can't have any humor or levity in a Batman film at all except unless it comes from the Joker?

Basically comedy should be allowed only when it's funny. Which many times is not the case here.

Comedy is subjective to the individual. Just because Jeff Foxworthy is a well renowned comedian, that brings in tons of people and sells out stadiums, doesn't mean I think his comedy is "good".

If it was in the movie, then chances are, Nolan thought it was funny, or good for the movie. Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean others felt the same. You seem to speak, as if everything you say, is the truth.

Or because a movie makes a lot of money, in my case.

If it was in the movie, then chances are, Nolan thought it was funny, or good for the movie.

Or some executives saw the script and said "This is a superhero movie. This needs a love interest and jokes here and here, even when they're not necessary."

Or maybe it was just Nolan (though I think Goyer had a lot to do with it). But, as you said, just because Nolan/Goyer are well renowned director/screenwriter, that bring in tons of people and sell lots of tickets, doesn't mean I think their comedy is "good".

Just because you didn't like it, doesn't mean others felt the same.

Oh my Gosh! Could it be...? Jesus Christ, I wouldn't have thought of it in a million years. Thanks a lot for pointing out. Now I think of it again maybe we all have personal visions and perspectives. Maybe I'll call them "opinions." Yes, I like the name. Now, someone should make internet boards for people with those "opinions" in order to share them. But the real magic will be that - since it's a forum for opinions - no one will have to specify they're opinions only. Sounds great to me.

You seem to speak, as if everything you say, is the truth.

You seem threatened by my opinions so you think they're special or something. I hope I am wrong.

I think the Nolan films work way better, for me, than the Burton ones did. However, Burton knew how to to inject humour at the right times. The comedy in 89 Batman and Batman Returns works way better than the comedy in Nolans films. It feels like he goes for the cheap laugh and it almost feels a little insulting. Like....you really expect me to crack up at such lameness?

It's going to sound like I am bashing TDK but I agree with the "drunk uncle" fighting. I think they improved from "Begins" where they basically seemed to keep most of the fighting off camera or in really quick cuts. It started to annoy me after a-while. TDK was improved but the weird body positioning did stick out. Like the first time you see Batman and he bends the rifle and hits the guy. It just seemed ackward to me. I also noticed it when he's beating up Laus goons and at the penthouse.

If there is a 3rd with Nolan, I hope they continue to improve on these things.

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS TO THE RESCUE!

I didn't get that from his post at all. Geez. Some people need to lighten up.

Very. Although, I could say the same about you. ;)

Not quite.

You're the one always seeing something personal in my posts towards you (and/or others). So much that you decided to dodge everything about the actual subject except for the part where you could go personal about.

Got old. It'd be recommendable to stick to the subject and avoid your personal whinings; you have to learn how to deal with people thinking different from you.

When nothing else is at hand, obvious things are handy.

Sad.
What am I dodging about the subject matter now? That I thought the comedy in the movie was "alright", and me trying to tell you something, without be overly sarcastic? Sounds to me like you're the one dodging everything, and blaming others as coming off as "personal", when in the scheme of things, I couldn't care less about you. I rarely quote people when I agree with them, and say, "yeah, you show that guy whose boss. LOLZ", or any things like that. I normally only engage in debate, when there seems to be an apposing view, and it just seems we disagree about stuff. If I'm somehow pissing you off, then I'm truley sorry, but again, I couldn't care less, and I'll steer clear of ever speaking or debating with you again.

Heh. You care so much you can't stop replying to me every time. And you care so much that you're feeling I am talking "as if everything you say, is the truth." That is a completely unnecessary thing to say as everybody here does, you included.

You either reply the post or not, but nobody's interested in what do you think about what other people have in their minds while posting. Referring to that and not to what my post said about the actual subject is exactly how you dodge the valid points and turn this into a cheap personal thing.

Few people reply to others when they agree. As few people need to underline that other people's posts are just opinions. That's such a given that it is simply no argument.

You don't like what people who disagree with you say? Ignore them, but please don't come and tell me how to reply, and then tell me how much you don't care.

About you stopping any debate with me, dozens have said the same and few to no one have been able to accomplish that. In the Begins vs TDK thread I stopped replying to you long ago, but it was you who came back here (and in that thread) to reply to me once again. Yeah, it is you who couldn't care less.

Youre debate is too heated gentlemen. I'll have to sue you for crimes against Scientology.

..........About you stopping any debate with me, dozens have said the same and few to no one have been able to accomplish that........

You have debated scores of people, and they were all wrong? Wow, must be cool to be right all the time.

That must truly be a Big Disappointment to those masses, which coincidently is what this thread is about.

I said they're wrong about being able to stop debating (those who claimed they were going to) not about the debate itself.

If I'm reading this correct, and I hope I am, because it seems you wrote this way to fast, then you probably missed my overall point. I didn't dodge anything, or was giving off any "cheap personal" attack. When you say things like, "comedy should only be allowed when it's funny", is again, subjective to the individual. You come off and act like it's the up most truth, that all of those scenes weren't funny, when in fact, I was defending them. Where did I come off with "personal attacks"? And when I say, "I couldn't care less", I'm talking about not purposefully attacking you, because you don't bother me. Jessh! I never once told you how to post, and yet, you're claiming I did. I just said that's how your demeanor is sounding in your post. And who cares if we debated in other threads, why are you bringing that in here? That's not why I responded to you, or as you feel, "singled you out".

See, Ekricket, how some people would claim they'll steer clear of ever speaking or debating with me again, but they just can't accomplish?

The button is nothing, the will is everything.

See how I do appreciate Batman Begins' dialogues? :woot:

So anyways, the humor in film didn't work for alot of people. And the fight scenes as well. So let's hope Nolan fixes those up. That is if Nolan is going to return.

One thing that I've heard alot too is that many people didn't like the last act of the movie. That it was too bloated. The ferry scene distracted from the Joker/Batman fight and so on.

Personally, for me, the only part in the movie where I feel things starting to drag (just a little) is when Reese is being taken away by Gordon, Bruce has Alfred looking up police with relatives in the hospital while speeding through Gotham. And then the Joker and Two-face scene. I know alot of people may love that scene but the part I just mentioned is the low point of the film for me. It just feels like the writing got way too overstuffed. It's completely bearable and I don't hate it by any means but it's probably the least enjoyable part for me.

That's my biggest gripe about the movie, is that there is just to much going on, to actually enjoy what is actually happening.

I can understand that gripe.

On another note, I do think it's sad that Ledger was going to be the Joker in a 3rd film and that perhaps the relationship between Batman and the Joker was held back a little knowing that. Now, because of Ledger passing, they will most likely not be able to do that. Nolan is a smart guy and he certainly had plans about developing that relationship more in the third film.

Sometimes during the movie i felt the same way. It was a bit tiring trying to keep up with everything that was going on.

I dont think he held back. It was the Joker's first appearence and he's already saying that Batman completes him and they'd be doing it forever.

On the whole humor thing, it seems both sides take these movies way too seriously. Side A) Thinks that any humor in these movies was "lame" and should have been removed and Side B) Thinks there was no humor in these movies, apparently.

I think BB had more studio-frinedly/mandated humor than TDK, but minus a few exceptions (like "Can you drive stick?"), I thought they almost always worked and did not detract from the movie like they may in a Spidey film. Instead, they just were brief moments of levity that allowed the audience to smirk and move on.

Now, what did you guys think was actually funny..?

For me, just Alfred's and Joker's jokes/one-liners. Anything else felt either a little or way too forced. Even Lucius Fox's jokes in TDK. He was okay being witty but producing one-liners here and there was unnecessary. Fortunately Freeman gave us a great performance. Things like the famous nice coat or I gotta get one of those were just bad.

Fox's handling of Reese over the blackmail was outstanding and hilarious.
