Bioshock Infinite

It doesn't seem to have any shadows in the new video.

Is anyone else annoyed that there will be a limit on the number of guns held (appears to be 3: handgun, rifle/shotgun, special weapon)? Also, the GT Pop Block vid guesses that only 2 tonics might be equipped at a time. They are most definitely GUESSING, as I don't believe Booker found a third vigor to begin with.

Aside from the weapon count limit, I'm insanely pumped about Infinite, and I'm confused as to why I had to dig this thread out of the dust. I haven't bought a new game in over a year, but this game looks like it may change that. Of course, there's always Dark Souls and Deus Ex: HR to consider. I will most likely buy Skyrim after the "apocalypse", when the GOTY version comes out and I have a PC that can run it.

this is one of my most anticipated games of 2012, too. and I don't normally like FPS......

I wonder when they will release it in 2012? early, mid, late?

That trailer didn't really speak to me. I'll play the game anyway but I'm still waiting for that "aha" moment.

Yeah, I was expecting a cinematic trailer but this was just all kinds of gameplay shots, most of which we had already seen. I've already been convinced through the older videos into getting this one when it comes out but they really need to pull in more people somehow.

That sounds awesome. Sort of seems like what the game should be like by default.

Agreed it should be like that in default. But it sounds like (I'm assuming) they are calling it that because it will be more like SS2? I hope so. This is great news.

Why do I have a geek crush on the Elizabeth character? The ****? :csad:

Speaking of Elizabeth, did anyone else ever see this cosplayer dressed up as her?

Pretty impressive.

The 1999 mode sounds rather intriguing, it reminds me a bit of Fallout: New Vegas' hardcore mode. Very curious to give this mode a go.

BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode will party like it's System Shock 2 (2 hours ago)

Turns out BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode isn't a parody of a Prince song, but was inspired by Irrational Games' classic PC title System Shock 2, which was released in -- wait for it -- 1999. After conducting a survey of BioShock-player preferences, Irrational decided 1999 Mode would add a layer of difficulty drawn from the hardcore structure of System Shock 2, particularly its permanent-upgrade mechanics.

For example, if you decide to upgrade a shotgun in BioShock Infinite's 1999 Mode, you're committing to a close-range play style for the rest of the game, Irrational Games Design Director Bill Gardner told Joystiq. "The second you pick up a sniper rifle, because you haven't been specializing in long-range weapons, you're going to be pretty gimped," Gardner said.

1999 Mode won't add any new abilities to enemies, but re-tunes the game with scarce resources, health and accuracy adjustments, and the ability-permanence handicap. Nostrums -- equivalent to gene tonics of previous BioShocks -- will be permanent in the normal game modes and in 1999, but the effect on overall fighting style is what puts the hardcore in 1999.

1999 Mode doesn't follow a separate narrative or setting, Gardner said, although he hinted there may be some surprises still to come. "All I can say right now is that 1999 is the year we released System Shock 2, our first game, so that's at least part of it," Gardner said, laughing evilly.

Enjoy. Discussions in session.

I can see some of the old school gamers doing this for the Nintendo Hard feel, and some of the young'uns trying to get through just to post it on Youtube for bragging rights.

SS2 was an amazing game. I will be playing 1999 mode only lol.

The 1999 mode made me even more hyped for a game I was already pretty excited for.

It's a shame that the "real" version of the game has to be an extra mode, but that's just the way games are now and I'll take what I can get.

That 1999 mode sounds like a fantastic challenge that I'd be up for right out of the gate.

And yeah, between this and Assassin's Creed III...I think I'm going to find myself very busy.

BioShock Infinite ignites a revolution on October 16

BioShock Infinite will fly into retail on October 16 and 19 in North America and internationally, respectively, 2K Games just announced. The game will launch on Xbox 360, PC and PC; with the latter receiving Move support and a free copy of the first BioShock.

"After BioShock, we had a vision for a follow up that dwarfed the original in scope and ambition," said Irrational Games Creative Director Ken Levine. "BioShock Infinite has been our sole focus for the last four years, and we can't wait for fans to get their hands on it."

So, prepare for a trip to Columbia this autumn and fight like it's 1999 (or, 1912, which is when the game is actually set).
