That's true. But if Nolan DID want to include Black Mask, we would've seen Roman in Begins. even if it was just a small scene of Roman at the funeral for Bruce's parents.

Nolan has said many times that he does one film at a time and doesn't think about future films. He wouldn't have stopped to think, "ok, now i'm interested in this character so i'm going to throw him in a scene here so in case i use him for a future film the fans won't be like where was he in bruce's flashbacks as a kid." You could say that if nolan knew he was going to include harvey becoming two-face in dark knight how come he didn't have a cameo in begins as another assisstant D.A. Nolan didn't even know at the time if he was going to do another batman so why would he include the character?

Nolan or Goyer or someone else that worked on Begins said that Dent was supposed to be in the movie, but, because the character "couldn't be done justice" was scrapped and turned into Rachel Dawes.

First of all, Batman Begins covered Bruce's childhood. If Nolan ever had any intention of including Black Mask as a villain, we would've seen him as a kid in Begins, since Roman Sionis (Black Mask) is a childhood friend of Bruce. To go back to Bruce's childhood again and say "oh yeah, we forgot to tell you in the first movie, Bruce had a rich childhood friend that we never showed you before." would feel like Spider-Man 3 when they revisited Uncle Ben's death and said "Oh yeah, we forgot to tell you, Sandman was there too!"

Well, not really. This isn't going against anything in the first one, like the Spider-man thing did. To be like that, they'd need to say "Bruce Wayne and Roman Sionis were not friends", and then say they were. Adding it in later isn't a retcon, just revealing more information. Nope. Are you saying that Bruce's only friend - throughout the entirety of his life - was Rachel, because that's the only one you were shown in the two brief scenes we saw of Bruce as a child? That's not even remotely logical. If we interpreted everything like that, the only things which ever happened before Bruce became Batman was that he woke up as a ten year old, fell down a well, went to the opera, saw his parents shot, went to their funeral, then woke up as a 20 year old, went to college, threatened Falcone, ran away and then woke up a thirty year old in an Asian jail for some strange reason. Doesn't make sense at all, dude.

Aside from that, who says Nolan would stick to the origin anyway? I always thought Black Mask's origin was the most boring part of his character. What I enjoy the most about him is his interactions with Catwoman, other mob bosses and Batman. Was Harvey Dent a friend of Bruce's prior to TDK?

Also, the sequel to TDK is going to need to focus on the events of TDK. Way too much chaos occurred becuase of the Joker, and Batman is now on the run. I don't see Black Mask fitting into a story which should focus on TDK's aftermath.

Nolan has been very clear that he sets out to make "complete" movies. He was very clear with TDK in particular about this. The original outline was supposed to be about the "aftermath" of The Joker - being Two-Face. But Nolan doesn't want to do one story across two movies. He seems to leave one thread open to pull through to the next one. In Begins it was The Joker card, in TDK it was the fact that Batman was on the run. Any villain fits in with a story about Batman on the run.

What does go in Black Masks' favour for being in the third film is that he's a fairly typical film noir villain with a comic book twist - which makes him a perfect choice for Nolan's style. He was also (supposedly) under consideration to be in TDK and he has a great story with Catwoman (who's odds on favourite to be in the movie).

Tom Hardy for Black Mask. Seriously, this guy is an excellent young actor who delights in playing psychotic and cruel characters. He is also very charismatic.

I think he could nail that crazy, cruel and sadistic yet charismatic mob boss role. I think he could create something truly terrifying, evil and memorable. Hell I think this guy could be amazing at playing Joker even. I mean Heath Ledger out of the blue, completely mental levels.

Check out Bronson and his role as Freddie Jackson in Sky TVs The Take.

And incidentally, I've just realized he is also in Nolan's Inception. So Nolan knows who he is and obviously likes him as an actor. I'm interested to see what role he plays in that.

The fact that he wasn't there, proves Nolan doesn't want to use him, and by revisting Bruce's childhood in Batman 3, a story that's done and over with, will just make him feel shoe-horned into the movie.

I suppose they could use creative license to not have Roman a childhood friend, but, correct me if i'm wrong, isn't that a big part of his character? (I've never read a Batman comic, my knowledge of Black Mask comes from his Wikipedia page.) The Joker skin-bleaching wasn't really essential to Joker's character. all Joker needs to be is crazy, homocidal, have a white face and green hair. How his face became that way isn't important.
Wgat are you talking about? We never saw Joker, Harvey Dent, or Maroni in BAtman Begins. We have never seen ANY characters cameo in either films except for Zsasz

I can definitely see that.

I would like to see Black Mask and Catwomans origins be tied in. Have Sionis be Selinas' father basically.

What about Viggo Mortensen as Black Mask?

Yea I was at Mortenson or Brolin before.

But Sionis is supposed to be the same age as Bruce ain't he?

I think Hardy could appear to be the same age as Bale, then under the mask it doesn't matter. It's about body language and voice, and I think he could do something great. Especially with voice.

To see Joaquin Phoenix explain his recent antics as prep for the new Batman movie would be a great announcement! What if...what if

Brolin would be another good choice. Yes Black Mask is supposed to be around the same age as Bruce, but what I would like to see is Sionis be Selinas' father and she is out for revenge against him for killing her mother when she was young. The Nolans and Goyer can easily change Sionis characterization and age to around Thomas Waynes age. He could also make Sionis a rival of Thomas Waynes, hence his hate toward the Wayne name in general.

I'm so glad Somebody else is giving Tom Hardy is props on here. But i wan't him for Joker... On the unlikely chance they use the character again.

For those of you who thinks Roman Sionis has to be a childhood friend of Bruce's, why not a college friend? Do people only make friends when they're children?

Bruce Wayne really knew a lot of Pyscho's as a child, didn't he? Roman Sionas AND Tommy Elliott...

In the comicsverse, yes, but in the Nolanverse he can be any age. I really don't think he would turn out to one of Bruce's friends if he appeared in the movie. That was Rachel's role. She was his only real friend and his link to normality.

I'm not a fan of tying together heroes and villains anyway, Two-Face excepted, of course. What're the odds in a city of 30 million people that any of these freaks will have known Batman or one another prior to turning to villainy?

I get your point, but the whole city knows who Bruce Wayne is. And it could be reasonable for Sionis' parents to have been business partners with Thomas Wayne.

Or, Mr. Earle could just go bat-f*** crazy and become a mob boss.

Tom Jane for Blackmask...I like this idea very much.

1.) Al Pacino
2.) Robert DeNiro
3.) Hugo Weaving
4.) Andy Garcia

I wanna see an actor that can be a real gangster play Black mask in this story :

Bruce will struggle hard with the consequences of being Batman and will vow to give up

The employee from TDK who found blueprints for tumbler is found murdered leading to
an even greater pressure from the city for Gordon to capture Batman and Gordon himself now doesn’t know who to trust even Batman himself.

A new and mysterious female D.A. emerges and sparks the interest of Bruce Wayne she is secretly Talia Al Ghul

The Joker was simply a pawn used by a mobster who wanted to move in on the Falconne family
This is the Black Mask an older man , rich, a rogue member of the league of shadows who
recruited the joker tortured him and drove him insane with the blue flowers (great way to go back show Joker's origin)
His purpose was served as he drove the Batman from hero to vigilante in the general public eye
the black mask is secretly also a wealthy business man and has the pull to push around Bruce wayne and also
fabricate documents and information his Intel is unparalleled, he nearly completes a hostile takeover of Wayne enterprises

Talia Al Ghul will lead a team of the league of shadows in revenge for her fathers death she knows Bruce Wayne is Batman
and this poses a serious threat since everyone is on the hunt for Batman she is unaware of whom the Black mask is and that he was a
partner with her father in the league

Commish Gordon must find a way to get info out the Joker, while in Arkham he is receiving treatment from a new doctor who turns
out to be an operative of the Black Mask, the black mask is determined to kill the Joker to conceal his identity but the operative
does a double cross she is Harley Quinn, and now the Joker is unleashed with vengeance on his mind and unleashes a new batch of terror on
Gotham

the two factions of the league of shadows go to war in the streets of Gotham
with Batman needing heavy artillery to subdue the war enter the Bat-Wing

Talia plays into Bruce until the Joker exposes her
The Black mask infiltrates Wayne Enterprises
and also kills Lucious Fox
the Joker knowing the Black mask is now controlling Wayne Enterprises destroys the building and kills the Black mask
framing BatMan

climax would be Joker now heading the mob in replace of the black mask and has a plan to detonate another bomb similar to what destroys Wayne enterprises
Batman has to take down remaining league of shadows hunters and stop the Joker

Talia ends up stepping in front of bullet meant for Batman as her heart has changed after she has witnessed all the destruction caused
by her own fathers hand and that of their followers
