Shuri is really the only one who needed help and that was pretty brief.

Who the Hell told Killmonger about the new Black Panther suit in the necklace?

W'Kabi, most likely. He was in the Wakandan inner circle.

Why did Killmonger work with Klaw to steal vibranium when all Killmonger wanted was a Klaw corpse?

Coogler seemed to be setting up Killmonger as a henchman before revealing him to be an extremely dangerous fellow.

Having seen it twice now I would rate it a solid 8.5/10. Lots to enjoy and it flowed easier second time round, the villain is strong with decent development and all the support cast are excellent, yeah the only weakness is the finale is a little by the numbers and has the weakest CGI moments but overall one of the strongest MCU entries just behind WS/CW/A which isnt a bad place to be.

PS:Bring back the old suit, far better :cwink:

I kind of agree. The CW suit was far superior aesthetically to me.

Seemed like the whole point of working with Klaw was to get on Wakanda's radar and also
get close enough to him to kill him. Having Klaw's body allowed him entry into Wakanda he otherwise wouldn't have got.

black panther was above average but really overrated (hot take I know)

having a fight to get the throne??? so dumb :mnm:

humor was really well balanced imo, hope marvel go back to this balance again, 1 joke was slightly cringe but meh :ilv:

too much green screen

I don't get the complaints there's too little action WTH, could've shaved some minutes off that imo

action wasn't shot that well overall, some nice shots in the casino though

Didn't really care about t'challa's struggle being king, servicable

killmonger was doooooope

really liked andy serkis/lupita's performance

production design was nice

music lost it's spark after repeating the same drums so many times

and the scene where killmonger is brought to the throne, who the hell thought that music playing was a good idea? good beat but didn't compliment it at all

9! This was a wonderful movie and I loved almost everything about it. My only complaint aside from a few typical tropes was Andy Serkis. I love the guy, but he was almost *too* goofy. It felt out of place.

This supplanted Iron Man as my favorite MCU film. Drama, action, comedy, romance, scale, mythos. This film had everything. Perhaps the strongest supporting cast of any MCU film to date, and Killmonger is the best villain the MCU has had to offer by a long shot (Not on the Loki train. Fight me.).

Can't wait to see it again.

To be honest, my expectations were probably unreasonable, but Black Panther still exceeded them. This movie hit on cylinders. The visuals stood out, even in the wildly inventive Marvel Universe, and the acting was superb from all corners. This film had quite a moral spectrum among its key players, and that made for some truly engaging character exchanges. The story's pace was brisk; every scene built on the previous ones. Black Panther is well worth multiple viewings.

9/10.

Probably the strongest character work in any Mcu movie so far. Just a perfect balance of development and story-significance from the big cast of core characters. Story has many layers and does an amazing job of creating emotion and the build up of conflict. World building of Wakanda is quite good, concrete, explored.

Top 3 Mcu movie for me out of the gate... maybe the best. Haven't decided yet, need another rewatch. It's just so damn good!

Easily a 9 out of 10 with an option of going higher. Can't wait to see it again. AT worst top 4 for me.

Copy n pasting:

Some thoughts:

-The movie was very good overall. The highlights for me included the supporting cast, (especially Okoye, Mbaku, and Shuri obv), Boseman was very good and regal AF, but he was perhaps a bit too reactive and got a bit swallowed up by the other wonderful performances.

-The visual design was another obvious highlight; the costuming, the set design, even the makeup and hairstyling. The only visual hiccup to me was some subpar CGI for Marvel; the first shot of warrior falls looked super fake, and the final battle between Panther and Killmonger was practically a video game. Luckily they were brief moments and didnt really impact my feelings about the movie.

-Killmonger, imo, was good, not great. All the talk of him being the best marvel villain is overstated. His motivations were understandable, but I still didnt feel he pulled off sympathetic as well as a Loki or Zemo, and he wasnt as pragmatic and calculated as someone like Pierce. Tonally he also felt out of place to me. Idk, he was a good villain, Id put him in the same villain tier with Hela (whom I also liked a lot but thought needed something more to really elevate it to the next level.)

-The themes were relevant and poignant, but I also thought there was a bit too much ‘telling’ rather than ‘showing’. Isolation vs Globalism is a complex and important conversation to have, but Id have liked to see more of the ramifications rather than hearing characters ruminate on the subject. It felt like lip service more than really diving into the subject... which I suppose is understandable, this IS an action flick, not a documentary.

-Serkis as Klaue was great
-Martin Freeman was also a very good outsider POV character
-The soundtrack felt more generic than I was expecting, thought it would have more flavor
-This film proves once and for all that Angela Basset was born to play Storm, Fox really f***ed that one up

So yeah overall, Id say it was a very good Marvel film, though not its best. Id put it in my Marvel Second Tier. But Ill also say seeing little black kids go running out of the theater super excited after the movie was great to see, its amazing that they have characters they can feel as connected to as us white folks have had for years, and I think thats part of why the reviews have been so resounding.

Therefore, Im currently rating it around 8.5/10

Really enjoyed this movie. I'd put it somewhere in the top 3 of movies made in the MCU.

It is not revolutionary or groundbreaking like some of the reviews have made it out to be, but a terrific film nonetheless.

I truly loved they pulled back on the humor. It's been an ongoing issue in the MCU for a while now, with Ragnarok being the biggest offender. Glad to see the BP finally had the right balance.

Killmonger is not the best MCU villain but he was good. I still think those honors go to Vulture or Loki (if we can even call him one anymore).

Gurira stole the movie for me. She was just wonderful in this role.

Given the success of this movie, I hope MCU doesn't become overly reliant on BP like they have Iron Man. I've grown tired of seeing all of the crossovers. One reason I enjoyed this movie so much was because they allowed the movie to be self contained in the BP world. It's refreshing when we can see these characters on their own.

Hopefully this leads to Marvel expanding on characters like Hawkeye and other smaller characters.

I got nothing bad to say about Black Panther. Its THAT good!

If I had to make any gripes, I was disappointed by what happened to Klaw and it was absolutely demoralizing to see
Black Panther lose his fight to Killmonger and I couldn't even b*tch about it because he won a fair fight.

The best part of the entire movie was Warrior Falls. Just seeing that view of people dancing in harmony with that music playing was overwhelming and had me shed a few tears. It was such a beautiful scene.

They're really got to stop killing all the villians. A better punishment for Killmonger would've been living, and Klaw should've just been captured and escaped during the chaos. There is some value in keeping them around and simple changes could mean great stories down the line.

It was pretty clear during the warrior falls scenes T'Challa didn't want to kill anyone. In fact I'm pretty sure that's why he lost. Sad to see him let Killmonger die.

Here is the thing: what would you have done with him in a sequel that already wasn't done? Some villains just work better as one-offs, and Killmonger I think works best as a single movie villain.

They probably would have gone with the cliche "Villain teams up with hero in the sequel only to betray him, ala X-2 and Dark World.

if we saw killmonger again I'd like to see him resurrected for a reluctant team up with t'challa. Idk how but I think it'd be interesting to see, especislly because he actually died. But him being dead is also fine.

Loved this.

9/10.

Only major complaint...

Not enough screen time for MBJ and hated that they killed him off.

But we have seen that in the MCU already with villain teaming up with hero. I just don't see him adding anything unique to the story had he stuck around.

I don’t really want heavy handed political messages in a comic movie. I want escapism, not a history lesson and Killmonger was the heavy hand.

A warped history lesson at that...

Warped and race baiting politics aside, the "comic book" and story aspects are completely average at best. The CGI is year 2000 bad and the fight scenes are shaky cam at its worse.

Having thought about the movie, I honestly am having a hard time not rating it at the very bottom of the MCU barrel. Not that it's bad because Marvel has yet to make a bad film but it's just not half as good as everyone is pretending that it is... Black Panther is in danger of becoming the definition of overrated.

I think [BLACKOUT]killing Killmonger was the rifght decision for the story they were telling. Consider the ending: Wakanda is now going to be active in aiding impoverished people in foreign nations. What real reason would Killmonger have to oppose T’Challa after that?[/BLACKOUT] What other stories could be told that wouldn’t feel like a repeat? It sucks that [BLACKOUT]he died,[/BLACKOUT] but I do understand why it happened.

Klaw, though...

Now, if it's too unbelievable, considering the info I just discussed, for you to believe that Africans could develop this technology when other individuals in the MCU are making futuristic technology like:

OK this conversation is over. Not going to fall trap to your baiting. Grow the hell up.

I would agree with the criticism regarding some of the CGI, but I think that is more on Coogler than the folks at ILM. Its a challenge to show a computer generated character performing superhuman feats in an artificial environment without it registering a "off" to the human eye. [BLACKOUT] I think most of us would have preferred that the final train fight be replaced with a brutal brawl in the throne room.[/BLACKOUT].

But I must have missed the "race baiting". Was it thr [BLACKOUT]dispute between the brothers?[/BLACKOUT]. The [BLACKOUT]colonizer[/BLACKOUT] quip?. The ending in which our heroes risk their lives to [BLACKOUT]prevent a global race war?[/BLACKOUT]. Because having a discussion that makes you uncomfortable doesnt automatically make it "race baiting".
