Black Superheroes Movies - Part 2

Red Tornada would be Native American if anything, going by the "Classic Comic Book Colorful Name Code"

Would Milestone properties make any money on the big screen?

I think a Static movie would be huge. The fanbase is still young, and the character is very awesome. Hardware would be sweet if they did it like the first three issues where he was a complete badass with no remorse. I wish they would have stuck with him being a pissed off employee before having him get a conscious and become more heroic.

Xombi would be really cool. A lot of really good fantasy elements there.

Can't recall if this was ever posted in this thread:

Didn't they integrate the Milestone characters into the DC Universe proper? About time, too. Having them sequestered into their own little universe was a complete waste. I much rather have them interacting with the greater DCU, particularly Icon and Static.

I like how Monica Rambeau started as a cop in New Orleans. That's a good way to start for superhero. And it's good to have a superhero who doesn't come from the usual places.

Can't agree. In their own universe they were the stars. As part of the DCU they have been totally neglected with the exception of Static (who is the only character DC wanted in the first place) and Xombi (his book will be ending soon).

We look at the other black superheroes in DC...

I got mixed feelings on that. In a sense it should provide greater entree for the Milestone characters and bigger exposure. But outside of Static and Xombi we haven't seen much usage of the Milestone characters. They've been put on the shelf or are prone to get lost in the shuffle.

In their own little universe at least they could get the focus they are not getting right now in the mainline DC universe. With the new focus on diversity in the new DCU, it seems like it would've been a great chance to introduce more Milestone characters. Put them on teams or have the solo in books, throughout the whole DC line.

But as it stands, we get a Static series. Not sure if Xombi will continue, and I haven't heard about any other Milestone characters getting a push. There's also Rocket maybe showing up on Young Justice but I don't know what's the extent of that.

Though not technically a superhero flick, what are your thoughts on that Red Tails thing Lucas is gearing up?

I heard about that movie about two years ago when this young british actor said he had a role in it on London News. Surprised it hasn't come out yet.

It's supposed to be out over here in Jan.

Agreed!

Black people will support TP dressed as a woman I dont see why they wont support a black super hero.
The fact that so many people are clamoring for them is the biggest tell.
It makes me feel glad because my aim as a starting black film maker is to expand black film from comedy and drama.

Hancock cost 180mil to make and earned 624mil...

Yeah, it's pretty sad to me that those are the only two genres we actually can only get greenlit. Either a comedic romp, or a heavy handed drama, or a comedic drama that gets heavy handed at some point. Never any action, never any adventure or fantasy. The last one I recall with black protagonists was Haunted Mansion, which I didn't like for obvious reasons.

Well we did get Blade and Spawn but they were years ago.

Attack The Block is good atleast.
Most critics are calling it the best Sci-Fi alien movie of the year. It was way better than Super 8, Cowboys & Aliens, Skyline, Battle Los Angeles and Mars Needs Moms.

The lead actor who played Moses is being called the new young Denzel as well. His been up in Hollywood trying to get some roles of the back of the heat his gaining.

Idris Elba is the lead in Del Toro's Mech vs Aliens movie Pacific Rim
