Update from BOF.....

BAT 2 Update
Author: Jett
Wednesday, July 26, 2006 - 8:55 AM CENTRAL TIME: Well, it begins. From this point on, expect the news and rumors to really pick up. Here’s our first report from one of our sources who has been tremendous for BOF in the past. Here’s what he had to tell us:

As rumored and expected, The Joker is going to be nothing like Nicholson’s version from B89. “What would be the point in trying to recreate something that was done so well then?”

Expect to see a back story for The Joker and we shouldn’t expect to see him until the middle of the film. “Like Batman in BEGINS.”

The Joker will not be the only villain in the film. “I know you’ve heard this before but trust me -- Nolan and his brother have a couple of surprises up their sleeves!”

“Heath Ledger is perfect for the role as he has never played this kind of part before which is what Nolan was after. Think about it -- if you see Sam Rockwell or Robin Williams or even Hugo Weaving, you’d know exactly how they would play the role before even seeing the film and that’s not very intriguing for fans is it? I have a feeling Paul Bettany was out of the mix after his performance in The Da Vinci Code.”

“From what I’ve heard about the direction of the film expect The Joker to be very creepy and very extreme.”

“Whatever you’ve heard about titles for the film -- pay no attention as the title will most likely not be known until they’ve finished shooting.”

He also told us that THE PRESTIGE is going to blow everyone away. “Think the vision of BATMAN BEGINS mixed with the suspense of MEMENTO,” our source said...

nice..... Ledger casting makes more sense after reading that...

I'm really not keen on this whole back story for the Joker. It would work FAR better if the Joker's a complete unknown (we have NO idea about his past throughout the entire film), because the character needs no sympathy.

maybe he's the Red Hood at the beginning of the film.....

The best part IMO:
“From what I’ve heard about the direction of the film expect The Joker to be very creepy and very extreme.”

The Ledger casting does make more sense considering theres going to be a backstory.

BACKSTORY !!!!11:down :down:down

booo backstory..... yaaaah BEER!!!!!

actually I'm glad they are giving him a backstory, I doubt it means flashbacks, but more as him being a criminal and murder before he's turned into the Joker....... just don't make him sympothetic, even though I got a feeling it's going to mirror "a killing joke" graphic novel.....

Indeed.

But Joker backstory? I dunno, it could work if they do it right.

they handled Bruce's backstory better then anyone could have wanted, I doubt they will screw up the Joker's...

it has to mean flashbacks  He was already the Joker by the time BB ended.

That... or the ending of BB was supposed to happen in the middle of BII... you know, Memento style.

we don't know that forsure, all Gordon Said was

Take this guy for instance, he's got a taste for theatrics too..... (then he shows him a Joker Card)

it was nothing more then forshadowing........ Jack Napier had a "Lucky" deck of cards in the 1989 version, but he never called himself the Joker untill after the accident, how do we know that this guy doesn't just leave a playing card on his victims, as a way of "marking his territory" or something...

that would be overly contrived IMO.

Doesn't mean he's transformed into the Joker yet though - he could still use that as his calling card before his transformation.

I bet the backstory could be flashbacks anyway...............

I doubt that would work. But it could.

Exactly.

It could be multiple choice backstory ala Killing Joke. Like Batman finds all kinds of clues that point to all kinds of origins and stuff like that.

how so.... all that card was, was a throw out to fans, they didn't even know at the time if they would be making a sequel, do you honestly think that they are going to show flashbacks during the first half of the movie, it said we won't see the joker until half way through.......

also, many famous or well known homocidal maniacs left "calling cards" on many of their victims.... Jack (or whatever his name is in this movie) will most likely do the same, marking his territory, trying to make a name for himself.... plus don't you think if he was the Joker at the beginning, that would have meant he was the Joker at Arkham when BB took place... so I think the police would be well aware who was leaving "joker" cards everywhere, Gordon wouldn't have said "this guy" at the end of BB, he would have said, something like "this guy who calls himself the Joker"....

I hope that it's not just Joker is the story, I don't want another Joker 89 movie.
