:funny: :whatever:

There can never be too much Batman -– which is why Brett Ratner proposes, once Christopher Nolan’s take on the Caped Crusader runs his course, that there be a few spin-off films.

“As a kid, Batman was my thing,” Ratner said. “I’m a little jealous that I didn’t get to direct it, although Nolan did a great job. But there are so many characters in the Batman series, so many characters that I love, that the opportunities for spin-offs are endless.”

Ratner thinks that the first one should be a film just about the Joker, exploring his (possible) origin as the Red Hood. “That would be really cool,” he said. But don’t we then run into the not-so-little problem of who could possibly fill Heath Ledger’s shoes?

“Heath was great,” Ratner said. “But the Joker is a great villain. That’s why Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger had so much to work with. And I think there will be another actor who can interpret that. It would be great to see [Robert] Downey [Jr.] as the Joker, for instance.”

Ratner doesn’t want to stop there. If the opportunities for spin-offs in the Batman universe are endless, what about the rest of comic-book-dom? For the “X-Men,” for instance, Ratner is excited about the upcoming Wolverine spin-off, but he thinks one is warranted for Halle Berry’s character, Storm, as well. “That would be great,” he said. “That would be really cool.”

Spin-offs and team-ups like “The Justice League” are the way to sustain the franchises, he said, so that minor characters can be more developed.

“You’re going to be seeing superhero movies for 50 years,” he predicted. “And it’ll be exciting to see a lot of the under-the-radar franchises like ‘Iron Man’ that could be incredible on the big screen.”

Do you think anyone else can play the Joker? Should there be a “Joker” film? What should it be about? What other spin-offs would you like to see?

Brett Ratner needs to sort out Prison Break first. That show has turned into a nonsensical mess.

This new MTV Splashpage deal is the one of the most useless things MTV has come up with ...which is saying something. It's full of nonsensical crap every time some makes a post about something there.

Ratner's an idiot ...and a hack.

Didn't Batman suffer enough with that movie that was released in 1997?

I was going to post pretty much the same thing! Anyone else notice how we get some kind of Batman related "news" from them every two days or so? :whatever:

Regarding Ratner...Ugh. I wanted to punch him, just reading that interview. The man makes my blood boil.

A Joker spin-off film isn't exactly a terrible idea.

...but considering Ratner said it, and he also wants to make a movie outta f'n Guitar Hero....then it becomes horrendous. :o

*Megatron voice* You disappoint me yet again, Ratner...

Brett Ratner thinks a lot of things

A Joker spin off film? Batman can work without Joker but not the other way around.

There was a reason he didn't direct the movie, looked how he would've made Superman.

The idea of Joker having his own movie has merit but Ratner is not who could make it work in film. The guy couldn't even get X-men right after Singer showed him how to do it twice.

No, no, no-no I kill the director's idea.:hoboj:

The only way I could ever see his own film is like "The Killing Joke"

But if Ratner does anything with Batman. More then likely it'll suck

I can get behind the unconventional idea of a Joker movie.

Just as long as Ratner is not associated with the project in any way, shape, or form.

I don't want to see it. It makes gets us to personal with the Joker, which in my opinion ruins 90% of the characters coolness. Bad guys are better when they have some mystery to them.

I don't want to see this become a New Stars Wars Trilogy or Hannibal Rising.

Don't you dare, Ratner. Don't you frigging dare.

If Ratner knew his way around comics so well when he was a kid, maybe he'd know how to respect them enough to make X-Men 3 not suck.

STAY OFF OF HEATH'S GRAVE, RATNER. YOU FAT (S)CUMBAG.

Robert Downey Jr as The Joker seriously? oh man....

What's so wrong with RDJ? He's a FANTASTIC character-actor if he tries to be.

Hands down the best response in this thread.

I'll just echo the sentiment that a Joker-themed story might be good, but not an origin. Maybe just a really gritty, adult animated flick on DVD with a bare-minimal limited theater release.

Ratner is a hack. A horrendous third entry to the "Rush Hour" series, a mediocre third entry to the "X-Men" series, and this guy wants to direct a "Conan" movie and a "Guitar Hero" movie.

If anyone should direct a new "Conan" movie it should be Rodriguez or Fincher or Cronenberg. Conan the Barbarian should really showcase barbarianism; total brutality and gore. Those three directors can direct great films with also giving us the red stuff.

I agree with the one poster who says Ratner should get back to the reigns of "Prison Break." I haven't watched these past few weeks since it premiered again. It all feels like a modern "Dirty Dozen" or "A-Team." And it just has lost it's charm.

I would moreso would want to see Zack Snyder helm "The Dark Knight Returns." By then, we can have a new actor take over for Joker and Two-Face, bring in The Rock as The Mutant Leader, and finally we can have an R-rated Batman movie.

...How about NO. Ya crazy, Dutch bastard.

come on guys, it can have the Joker hooking up with Jackie Chan and making lots of racist jokes about Asian people! Who doesnt wanna see that?!?! nobody thats who.

Isn't he satisfied with the mess from X3?? Apparently hes the Galactus of directors for comic book movies an he feels the need to destroy them or at least attempt to. I hate Brett Ratner and having him do anything with Batman would make me sick.
