Bone claws!?

I feel the same way as you reallycoolguy. I put the comics down when Wolverine found out he had bone claws.

I tried to come back to them a few times but every time I did I saw more stuff I hated, Wolverine being transformed into a de-evolved ape thing for instance..I just couldn't believe what they had done to my favorite character.

Now it's pointless to argue which fictional story line make more sense...it's obviously more of a preference and depending on when you were reading these books will definitely play a part.

I just don't think it was necessary to introduce the bone claws in this film series. The only thing I'll say that made me think movie Wolverine might have bone claws is that in X2 they used liquid admantium as if they were just coating the bones. I don't really like this method either though because his bones could still crack if there is enough pressure.

Y'all postin some really old quotes from me... I won't reply to all the times I've been quoted on this page... but I will say this:

1. DC comics characters suck (except for Batman who was actually my introduction into the comic book world) --just my opinion...

2. I am an old-school fan who stopped reading comics in the early 90s... so I am not familiar with the whole bone-claw story... yeah, it makes sense... but at the same time it does violate several insinuated rules/continuity issues. Please note the italicized word in my previous sentence; "insinuated", as in "implied"... meaning that there are no explicit violations and, as such, bone claws are perfectly plausible to Wolverine's continuous storyline... my question is... are bone claws actually essential to the character of Wolverine?... my argument relies on the controversy of this character trait that exests b/w old schoolers (like myself) and more recent readers of Marvel.

One of the Chinese cinema's biggest criticism of American films is a lack of character development... they argue that characters in American cinema don't grow, learn, evolve or change... (for example, Rambo was a skilled fighter at the beginning of the movie and maintained his skill level throughout all 3 flicks.. also never learning any type of moral lesson throughout the entire trilogy) I know there are several ways that Wolverine can evolve and mature throughout this film outside of his claws but I feel the claws are an important part of his character's evolution and also the mystery of his past. As I remember Wolverine and the Weapon X history, I am reminded of the irony of the fact that Weapon X gives Wolverine his claws and Wolverine, in turn, uses them to tear the place up. To me, personally, that is a very important part of the history of Wolverine and would also make for a kick-ass scene in a motion picture. I feel that it would take away from that particular scene if he was already shown with claws, rgardless of what they are made of. If you got a kid choppin people up at the beginning, where's the fun in seeing a grown man chop people up at the end? ... Once again, my opinion.
In a way they do give him claws. They file them to razord shard points then coat them with Adimantium. You think if they didn't do that he could still rip the place apart?

It's already confirmed that Wolverine will have bone claws in the movie.

As far as my opinion on bone claws, I don't see how the inclusion of bone claws hurt the character at all. They don't change or alter the character or essential themes that Wolverine has. Now, I agree with you in the fact that I never liked the stories that came right after the bone claws (the whole advanced mutation with Wolverine morphing into a weird ape creature). I agree that stories like that hurt the character, but the bone claws themselves didn't hurt the character.

I've been more annoyed with the general trend of storytelling in regards to Wolverine's character as of late. As I said before, I think that is a much bigger detriment to Wolverine then bone claws ever were. And actually, one of my favorite recent Wolverine storylines, Origin, wouldn't have been able to be told in the same way if the bone claws hadn't been conceived, so I'm happy because of that.

It's shown in the movie that he uses his bone claws as a weapon (or the trailer). Both in the scene of him as a child yelling at the sky (and what looks like a body by him) and in the scene of him and sabes surrounded by soldiers in Vietnam you can see his claws are extended.

So I'm thinking that his claws could always be used as weapons. Filing them down probably just made them a little more sharp.

I see no major issue with the bone claws. I do remember growing up as a kid reading the comics thinking that the "Gov't made him an animal". But really, with the bone claws and his animal like senses, he has always had that animal in him. He just wants to be able to control it and be more human. I like to see the Weapon X experiment more as the Gov't manipulating him and his animal instinct was to escape.

That's kind of always how I saw it. The Government did horrible things to him, and it made him lose control over that animalistic side of him to an extent he never really had before, so that even today he has to watch himself or he might slip into uncontrollable rages.

I never saw Weapon X as the reason he had the animal side, but rather the reason he couldn't control it.

The bone claws will be pretty cool. The origins TPB showed him as a child discovering his bone claws after his father is killed. It will be interesting to see if they show him way back in the past living for hundreds of years like the comics suggest or if they portray him as living as long as normal people.

He's at the D-Day landings with the American infantry (isn't he a Canadian? I'm sure there's a reason here) in the movie, so they'll be somewhat showing that he can live indefinately.

The Canadians were in WW2 helping us.

Well, they of course were doing their own thing on D-Day at Juno Beach, while the Americans were elsewhere at Omaha and Utah. Plus, the British were at Sword and... the other one...

Thousands of soldiers stormed the shores, I'm assuming the Canadians could have found a place for him at Juno. So I'm assuming that he might not be portrayed as Canadian in the movie, or he's with the American army at that point.

June 6th United Kingdom, Free French Forces, the United States and force of Canadian soldiers stormed Normandy.
