Boston Marathon Terror Attack - Part 2

Just to clarify, the majority ethnicity in Egypt, Palestinian territories, Lebanon, Jordan are Arab... and it's sad to see in those countries among those polled that they feel the 9/11 attacks were not carried about by Arabs... when every single Hijacker was from a mix of Saudi, Lebanon, Egypt and UAE with a majority coming from Saudi.

According to Wikipedia most people in the world, either don't know, or don't believe the US government's official account of the events.

Then again if studying poll data has taught me anything it's that most people don't know the difference between their ass and a hole in the ground.

According to Bloomberg Businessweek: Shutting down Boston for a day cost $333 million. Damn.

Not meant to be a defense, but if similar events happened in Russia and other parts of the world, thinking the government was responsible would most likely be true.

I missed this whole Uncle joke. What's that about?

Oh crap, he's on NBC right now actually.

I still cannot believe that he was taken alive!

The cops wanted him taken alive so they could get answers. If the perp wanted to kill himself he would of done before the cops caught up to him.

People running in the London marathon on Sunday will be wearing black arm bands for those people killed and injured in the Boston marathon.

The London Marathon organizers will also be donating two pounds for every runner that finishes the race to the victims of the Boston bombings. They are looking to raise $100,000.

The media coverage of this has been shameful though. It just reinforces how much I hate the "24 hour news cycle". If news stations weren't going out of their way to force a "bringing it home" connection to their particular channel or area (ie. one of our field reporter's cousin's babysitter's father's step-brother commutes to Boston two times a month so this "really hits close to home") they were trying desperately to tie it to al-qaeda or drum up the suspects' religion.

It's annoying.

I am really happy they took him alive. I'm just very surprised he didn't kill himself.

...that is incredible.

It's a nice change from all the murder suicides. I don't think his heart was in it like his brother. His brother's final act was pretty much a suicide attack while he fled and hid all day.

Yeah I mentioned yesterday how on one news station, they had some former officer talking about how negotiations are done, and why they never send in a family member or psychiatrist because that could lead the suspect to feel like they are having their mind toyed with, which could lead to aggressive behavior. But other stations still looked for people like the uncle who was basically blasting the kids and their family while trying to clear himself for suspicion or any known connection.

I rarely watch channels like CNN or Fox News, so I think its one thing in a situation like this where you want to stay up to date every minute, but I can't imagine what ts like when there's really no news or hot topic to discuss. Right now, I've heard them ask the same question to at least a dozen different analysts, which makes me feel like they try to give the impression of their being some "news to report" when there really is none.

It does seem like the older brother was the "mastermind".

It does seem that way, but I can't comprehend how a seemingly normal teenager could ever be convinced to be part of something like this. Why do terrorists think killing a bunch of random people and ruining lives does ANYTHING to help their cause?

I was watching the local ABC coverage here and found them quite reliable. Some of the discussions weren't very useful or informative, but they didn't just the gun and mostly only reported things when they had been confirmed. They were, I think, the last ones to announce that the suspect had been captured because they waited for confirmation.

I heard someone talking about how they were probably trying to find out more about their Chechen heritage, and when they did that by looking online, all they saw was extremist beliefs and conspiracies, and that must've been how it started. Of course, this was CNN, so take of it what you will.

I'm glad this manhunt has come to an end. Now I hope the young brother will give us some answers, and be locked away for life. I think he'll find life in prison to be a very miserable one.

They're selling emotions one should experience as if they were used cars.

Its never about a cause.

Its always really about revenge for whatever perceived slight, insult or trouble they see having been brought on them or their people.

If any of these terrorist groups around the world really wanted to address and resolve the REAL issues they could do that around a negotiation table but instead they would rather carry out the eye for an eye philsosophy or lash out at those that don't see the world the same way they do.

If your ever going sort out the real problems of the world that is going to take people coming to some kind of understanding otherwise these things just continue on and on.

Most people agree that politics never get anything done but unfortunately these guys take it to the extreme.

So if they were shut down one more day it would be 666 million......ahhh the devil

David Ortiz just said "This our ****ing city!" At a pre-game speech at Fenway Park. :funny:

I was wondering if anyone else heard this last night, this was during the point of him being captured and or arrested. There was so much coverage and news reporters talking I hadn't heard anything else about it. It was reported that two males and one female were taken into custody. Might have been because they knew him or were close to where he lived. I'm unclear about the details about this, so I'm sorry if I'm so vague.
