Boston Marathon Terror Attack - Part 2

I think you read him his rights and just go forward. Why would you want to open up that can of worms now?

Because if he is unconscious and can't respond whats the point?

All of this legal mumbo jumbo escapes me, but I believe that if he's read his rights, he is not obligated to talk until he has a lawyer present. But we all know how complicated lawyers can make things. Plus, if this kid is dying, they may not have the time to deal with that, especially if they're trying to get info from him.

The thing about that is, we're assuming a lot. I mean, unless they have evidence linking them to some sort of terrorist group, there's no reason to hold him as an enemy combatant.

All that will happen by not reading his Miranda rights is certain evidence is thrown out of court, but they have so much against him that they don't need it. They need to question him before a lawyer gets to him and shuts him up and that is more important so they are sacrificing inconsequential evidence to get a bigger fish. Homeland security's priority is to ascertain what he knows and what his brother knew and who they were possibly contacting in russia.

I disagree. Its ok if you feel some small amount of sympathy for the kid. That just makes you human and a better one than this kid. Even Anne Frank believed everyone was good deep down and she would've been a Belieber.

As I said before, I'm saddened at the tragedy of the situation, but from all we can tell the kid had the mental capacity to know what he was doing would be resulting in the deaths of innocent people....it seems that he still had a choice and power not to do so. I would sympathize if someone was forced, had no alternative, or didn't have the capacity to know otherwise and was not in control of their actions.

That doesn't mean I want him drawn and quartered in public, or that he doesn't deserve a trial and processing through our justice system. That goes without saying. But until we understand that he really was forced somehow to follow along, then no, I will not sympathize with him even if I blame his older brother more for coercing him. And I have a younger brother as well and know what it means to be loyal, but these kids were smart enough to know better, and know better from each other.

Seeing the crowd celebrate in Boston really reminds me of the way NYC and other places like DC erupted after Osama was announced dead. It was really a sight to see so many people come together, not because of a tragedy, but because a feeling of justice.

A lot of police getting laid in Boston tonite

In the early hours of this morning, people were posting information from police scanners that may have hindered the search. When the suspect was mis-indentified as the Brown University student, people were bombing the family's FB page, calling their son a terrorist.

People did try to help, but in many ways, they weren't helping.
I think this has really changed a lot about social media and news. Hopefully for the better though and that we can learn from it.

This is without a doubt the biggest social media news story since maybe, Michael Jackson's death when he almost broke the internet.

RE the topic of the Miranda rights

at the press conference one of the speakers said that they were able to take him without reading his Miranda rights due to exceptions granted for public safety related to terrorism cases. personally I would think they would want to play things safer, but I suppose they're the experts....

EDIT:
also, the fact that he was immediately taken to the hospital might have rendered the whole issue a moot point. They'll just read him his miranda rights when he's medically able.

They just don't want a money grabbing lawyer to come in and shut him up. They need the kid to talk. In this case and cases like it I'm ok with it. We can't have a possible buddy of his setting off a bomb somewhere else in retaliation.

Because they don't need him to shut up if there are more whackos out there with bombs

Okay, I've been at work all day and haven't kept up with everything; so how and where did they find the suspect?

I guess Ran Paul and his friends can stop worrying about drone strikes in America to kill Americans.

BPD was amazingly determined to not fire back.

Just got back from Watertown. People were chanting "USA." Huge SWAT and FBI presence still. Saw ATF agents, FBI and SWAT vehicles and search helicopters. But people were happy and celebrating. Lots of media.

I'm just so relieved that this nightmare is finally over for the people of Boston and that kid won't be any more of a threat. I heard his father was arrested and taken into custody for what he had said. Hope both father and son are behind bars for a very very long time. Such a very long 24 hours.

I just hope this miranda thing doesn't dampen the feeling of victory here. Lets just be happy and let the FbI deal with this POS and his associates. He will get a fair trial but I want him to be wrung for every bit of info he knows.

I was thinking more along the lines of they wouldn't want to do anything that would risk damaging their legal case.

After calling off the lockdown at around 6pm, all hope seemed lost until a man left his house and noticed there was blood on the boat that was in the backyard. After lifting the cover, he saw a man in blood laying inside, so he went back inside and called the cops. After a slight fire fight, and an hour of negotiating, they finally arrested him at around 8:43pm.

People are celebrating and chanting? Seriously? The only thing that would warrant that is if someone built a time machine and prevented all the losses.

Glenn Beck appears to be on the case about that already.

Didn't he say something like "All hell will break loose if my son dies."? Not wise.
