Boston Marathon Terror Attack - Part 2

People are celebrating and chanting? Seriously? The only thing that would warrant that is if someone built a time machine and prevented all the losses.

They've been locked down in their homes all day, not knowing what was going to happen next. They're allowed to celebrate that this part is over.

I was thinking more along the lines of they wouldn't want to do anything that would risk damaging their legal case.

They have an airtight case. Its an act of terrorism and he dropped bombs and grenades, carjacked, killed a policeman, shot another cop, shot at cops, resisted arrest etc. He is legally up **** creek and his miranda rights or lack of won't change the case.

MSNBC is doing an amazing interview of the husband and father of two of the victims.

Just got back from Watertown. People were chanting "USA." Huge SWAT and FBI presence still. Saw ATF agents, FBI and SWAT vehicles and search helicopters. But people were happy and celebrating. Lots of media.

I don't get it. I really don't. We have no ideas what their motives were. Setting a bomb off inside of America does not necessarily make it an attack on America. But hey, if USA chants make people feel better, who am I to stop them?

reddit's put up a picture of him being captured.
I put that up like 2 pages back or so.

They're cheering on the police and EMTs who have just concluded the hardest week of their lives and successfully brought a very dangerous menace to justice. I'm not seeing the problem there.

These people lived in fear for about a week and probably had little to no sleep...a terrorist was captured.

This is a moment of celebration because in the face of tragedy and terror we didn't cower. We prevailed and got these POS. We can celebrate one thing while mourning. Haven't you ever been to an Irish wake?

Again, I trust that they're the experts. I think you might be under the impression that I'm arguing with you, but I'm not. My initial post was meant to convey that I don't think the miranda issue is a big one, especially since the suspect was taken to the hospital. I believe in such a situation they just wait to read his miranda rights to him once he's medically stable. :cwink:

I'm going to guess and say that given the nature of the attack, and the fact that it was done on a day called "Patriot's Day", many people feel like this was an attack on the American way. Everything these guys did, from the bombings to the fear they invoked, are acts of terrorism, and that is the opposite of what America stands for. We do not go around setting off bombs to kill innocent, defenseless people, with the exception of a few cases in times of war.

But there is this American pride because people feel like there was an attack against them and what they stand for, and the person responsible was caught and will pay for what they did.

So the mom was a conspiracy theorist

I know your not trying to argue. I apologize if I seem to be arguing it isn't my intent. :yay: I'm right there with you on the issue. The miranda rights isn't a big issue at the moment. There are grey areas, and this is such a delicate situation I would rather defer to the experts. Hopefully the media won't turn this into a big deal and make the authorities look bad or unconstitutional for not reading his rights.

The mom believed that 9/11 was a government plot to make people hate Muslims.

Where's this from?

Also, was the report of a body in a back yard the same one for him in the boat, or was that something else?

Maybe now the media attention will go to West, Texas. The explosion and tragedy there was actually much worse than Boston (14 dead, 200 injured in Texas plus unknown numbers missing which range from 0 to 60), but Boston gets more attention due to the fact that Boston is an act of terrorism.

Boston got more attention because it was a manhunt for a criminal that could cause an unknown number of deaths in the immediate future. No one knew who he was, what he was capable of, or who he was working with. Texas was an accident caused by negligence. It may seem unfair, but Boston was the higher priority and an active threat.

The kid is in serious condition, which is just short of critical condition.

Boston got more attention because it was an ongoing threat. Not to mention there were suspects at large who were eventually identified just days after the attack, and were also found hours after they were identified.

CNN actually interrupted the coverage of the Texas tragedy when all hell broke loose in Boston. Now that that madness is done (at least that part of it), I'm sure they're going to go back to it.

I was glad Obama mentioned it in his speech tonight.

Hell, local news here in Dallas interrupted coverage of the Texas tragedy during the 5 PM news.

The suspect was taken to the same hospital where his brother died at. Any updates on his condition will be given by the FBI, and not the hospital as it is normally done.

Did they ever detonate the bombers house? What happened with that?

there was an interview on CNN with a girl who had been to their house and talked to the mom...her sister was writing a paper on them and the mom mentioned her belief.

I don't know, for some reason I feel bad for the kid. I just get the feeling that there's more to this than "He's a psycho who wanted to kill people." He seemed to be pretty well adjusted, social and had a great future ahead of him. I don't know, I'm glad they caught him but I can't shake this feeling.

I was listening to an interview with one of his former classmates in High School. She was basically saying the same thing. He seemed like a nice kid and it makes you wonder how he got to this point in his life.

It's always a sad thing when people throw their life away.

Our local ABC news has just gone back to regular programming. They've been covering this non-stop since about 4:00am.

Yeah, just to go back to the talk about feeling bad for the kid. I'm not sying I feel bad for him, because I think he made abed and now he has to sleep in it. But what makes me feel bad is that everyone makes him sound like he was a great kid, and like I said before, he had a lot going for him. Unless this kid was being prepped for the past 10 years and was just waiting for the right time to strike, I can't help but feel like he ended up getting caught in the wrong crowd and what sucks is that someone with a promising future not only threw their own life away, but also cut the lives of others short, and permanently scarred hundreds of others.

I doubt he's been prepping for this for the entire time he's been in America. He's 19.
