Bought/Thought April 1st - SPOILERS

The art was incredible in that Werewolf by Night mini...looking forward to more from Suyan (sp). It appeared to be an out-of-continuity tale to me, so the step-sister isn't really an issue.

If it's an out-of-continuity tale, do you think they'll move onward with his daughter in future stories?

:o

I know I wouldn't mind another mini...

I thought of that, but they already have the Imperial Guard. I mean, really, how many legions of powerhouses do the Shi'ar really need?

C'mon, its like the countless Special Forces any single nation's armed forces has. America has like what...Delta, Green Berets, The Airborne Rangers, the SEALs...etc...etc...

Maybe the Raptors are a part of some cabal that existed way before the Imperial Guard.

Well the Talon dude said they've been inactive for millennia, which is why the "universal culture" is out of control. How long have the Imperial Guard been around?

And can they really be considered a "legion" when there's only two of them?

Hrmm...a little far-fetched but truth be told, Talon seems to be stretching it a little too thin. I mean, how does a great Secret Police force simply go inactive? How do they maintain cosmic balance?

Are they like...the Cosmic equivalent of the Hashashin/Assassins? Believing that its their right to keep the peace by any means necessary?

I meant the organization itself, not the remnants of it that we've got now.

Another link is the Crystals from which Darkhawk and Talon draw their powers. The Shi'ar have another such artifact to that effect called the M'kraan stone or something though I'm not entirely sure what the stone's nature or purpose was. DOn't read much X-Men.

WAR OF KINGS #2: Despite my comic lore, I never knew that Havok could actually breathe in space when fully charged. Knowing, after all, is half the battle.

Did you find that info somewhere, or are you just going off of that panel in the issue? It had me metaphorically scratching my head when I read it...

Dread,

You seem over hostile to the Darkhawk origin retcon...

I'm cool with it...at least he's being worked with..which is a ****ing miracle unto itself.

I wouldn't call it "hostile"...more like concerned.

I am concerned because Darkhawk's history was already clearly stated in his 90's series and retcons usually just trample over stuff and make things more confusing. Look at the Way retcon that Ghost Rider is empowered by heaven, trampling over about 25 years worth of Mephisto stories. How does it even all fit now? Who knows. The only reason Jason Aaron has made it work is by going forward with it and not looking back. But eventually you have to look back for a Handbook Bio or a wikipedia page, and it becomes a cluster****.

Abnett & Lanning have to make whatever retcon they are doing fit in with 50 issues worth of stories that came from alien crook Dargin Bokk being the source of the Darkhawks. They also have to remember that it is a body-swap, not "armor", like Cebulski seemed to assume. I have faith in them, but Darkhawk is a rather obscure character, but too recent to go whole roughshod with an origin. Right now he is the least oranic cog in WAR OF KINGS; his place is unknown, and he has absolutely nothing to do with any interested party. Nothing. Unless you count being Richard Rider's ally and former team mate, but he's not going into space to boost Rich. Right now Darkhawk seems random.

Every time I am faced with a retcon possibility, I get nervous because 80% of them suck. Yeah, Brubaker did a great one for Bucky, but remember his DARK GENESIS one with Kid Vulcan was not terribly great, and hence Vulcan has only become readable after his past has been ignored and you only have to focus on his space Caligula routine. I don't want Darkhawk becoming WOK's Wraith.

I dunno...Raptors..."Talon"...Dark"hawk....sounds very Avian-ish to me and considering that the Shi'ar are primarily a race of Evolved Avians, I suspect DnA are trying to tie the Darkhawk legacy to the Shi'ar. Maybe the Raptors were like the Templars of the Shi'ar Empire, or one of their attempts to counter the Phoenix?

I thought of that, but they already have the Imperial Guard. I mean, really, how many legions of powerhouses do the Shi'ar really need?

I am curious if Talon is truly on the up-and-up. Mentors usually are evil in stories, especially recent comic book stories.

I am just hoping that whatever retcon is due, it fits in with the established history and manages to make "yet another squad of space cops" sound more interesting. I would hope alien civilizations didn't overlap stuff as if they were X-Men teams. ;)

Apparently when Havok is fully charged with cosmic radiation, he can breath in space. At least that is what expert in Havok-ness Dew K. Mosi assures me. ;)

In the panel, he has a bit of an "energy outline" around himself from his powers. He was fully recharged in KINGBREAKER #4.

Huh. I never knew that about Havok.

Indeed. The mod is a big Havok fan and knows more about him than I usually do. For the record, Havok also was able to hold his own against the Hulk in INCREDIBLE HULK #150, focusing energy directly into his brain to give him, according to Hulk, enough pain for Hulk to grumble, "Nothing ever hurt Hulk like this!" Granted, that was the 1970's, before Hulk's regeneration was retconned. Havok can also apparently absorb other types of radiation beyond just cosmic radiation, which should make him far more useful than he usually is. Apparently, his confidence issues have little to do with his power level and more to how he thinks of himself, or would compare himself to Cyclops, who usually was "in control". Havok was prone to fits of emotional outburst quite often, especially involving Lorna. That may be why he managed to be friends with Wolverine, while Cyclops usually wasn't.

Basically, Vulcan is to Havok what Mr. Sinister used to be for Cyclops; an arch enemy who is more or less weakened or challenged by his energy blasts. Therefore, it would take a helluva great deal of writing quality to get me to have major emotional payoff if someone other than Havok (or to a degree Polaris) ices Vulcan.
