Bought/Thought for January 6, 2010

X-Factor Nation-X - Pretty solid one-shot. Figured none of Jaime's bunch would stay on Utopia; I'm sure Longshot will come home sometime lol. My only complaint was all the sexual jokes/moments in the issue. Shatterstar hitting on Northstar w/i minutes of getting to Utopia? Yeah cuz gay people attack each other like that all the time.

Well he "attacked" Boom-Boom the same way.

Criminal Deluxe HC - Believe all the hype you hear about this book.Seriously, this is some damn fine storytelling. The characters are so well developed and believeable.Philips' art matches the tone of the stories, filthy and dark. These tales of morality thru the eyes of society's lowest are some of the best comics I've ever read.

Wolfskin - A pretty quick read but entertaining nonetheless.Ellis does swords and sandals is what this pretty much is.Lots of blood and guts, nasty personalites, and hilarious dialogue you'd expect from Ellis.Ryp's art is ridiculously detailed especially in the battle scenes.

Scalped Vol. 1 - Kudos to Aaron for developing such a deep history with so many characters and a rich setting in such a short amount of time. This seriously feels like a Scorsese movie. The main character is constantly on the edge and the villains are well written and complex.Oh yea, plus lots of cussin'.Just as good as everyone is saying it is.

Incognito - This really blew me away.Bru's taken elements of crime, pulp and superhero and created one hell of a monstrous beast in Incognito.Zack's a scumbag, but his journey from bitter ex con to "hero" is so well done and a solid tale of redemption.Philip's can handle the superhero and larger than life elements the story calls for with much ease and subtlety.I'm looking forward to more stories from this strangre universe.

Ultimate Avengers #3 and 4 - Millar shows that he's the Michael Bay of comics.Ridiculous dialog at times, fast paced widescreen action and lots of shock and awe.Honestly,I wouldn't have it any other way.Millar's Cap is just too fun to read.Pacheco's clean art looks amazing.

yet to read...

Kull:The Shadow Kingdom
100 Bullets Vol.1 and 2
Scalped Vol.2 and 3

Just read Siege.

I was shocked, SHOCKED to see characters speaking in actual complete sentences.

Bendis only has 4 issues this time, instead of 8. He has to rush a little. :o

Which isn't a bad thing; if giving him fewer issues to dither causes him to rely on his fundamentals and be mediocre at worst, then by all means, shorten up his major stories!

Don't worry Marvel will just add a couple of issues on at the end when they realise Bendis has run out of room. It's their new tactic.

I really hope they stick to the 4-issue format. They set a good pace in #1 and, seeing as the event centers on a battle, it would behoove them to keep the momentum up for the entire thing. Battles--especially with superhumans--are quick and dirty. I hope they convey that in the mini.

Untrue, unless this decade is different. Does anyone consider, "The 80's" to include the year 1990? No. It was 1980 to 1989. Much as "The 90's" did NOT include the year 2000, but were 1990-1999. No one counts the year 1980 as being part of "The 70's"; that was 1970-1979; after all, "THAT 70'S SHOW" after seeming to list the year the show was based in at the end credits at around 1975-1976 soon had to stop and list every year as 1979.

Now, with the 2000's being a new deal, no one knows what to call the whole decade from 2000-2009. "The Aught's" is just a nickname. As a society, America hasn't had this problem since 1899 shifted to the year 1900. And according to at least some sources, around World War Two, the 1890's were just called "The 90's" for their time too. Would someone have included the year 1900 as the 1890's?

I get what you're saying, but as a society, we're just being lazy... there was no year 0, so the first decade was from year 1 to year 10 (because by definition, a decade is 10 years.. same mentality with a century), so with that "smart boy" math, this current decade began on January 1st, 2001 and will end on December 31st, 2010... it does sound "dumb", but technically, since year 1, this is the end of the 201st decade...

Having said that, there is a DIFFERENCE between "the 70's & the 80's" as opposed to calling them official decades... the 70's were from 1970 to 1979, which for obvious reasons are called the 70's, but as far as the 198th decade goes, it is officially from 1971 to 1980...

So maybe you can just refer to the last 10 years as "The Aught's", but the end of this current decade will happen in about 355 days.

Cheers,

:yay:

I think thats the point, that Shatterstar is a horny guy. Man or woman, he is game.
