BOUGHT/THOUGHT for January 9, 2008

I didn't read it, but I know that people were really, really looking forward to it.

I was one of them. Tomasi with the art team of Rags and Bair, what's there to lose? It just fell short for me.

I don't think that I've anything by Peter Tomasi. The only Tomasi that I know of is Rich.

Tomasi is writing Green Lantern Corps, too. Pretty well at the moment.

The first issue of Nightwing was kind of boring to me. I don't know why they keep forcing Dick into New York. No one wants to read about DC characters in ****ing New York. Gotham and Metropolis are their New York. Also, Rags and Bair's art was kind of awkward and not up to the standard of stuff like Identity Crisis and the Hourman series.

They shoulda moved him to Newark or Atlantic City, or some other dank pitt of Jersey, seeing as Buldhaven is gone. (Which was kinda like Jersey to Gotham's New York.)

I really, really miss that Hourman series. :(
It was a little slice of Heaven not meant for mortal eyes, but Tom Peyer and Rags Morales defied their masters and brought it down to us anyway. Here's to those modern Prometheuses and their clockwork muse. :(

Yeah, I exaggerated when I called myself a fanboy. I am enjoying it, but it's not like I agree with everything all of them say. That dude Pete has terrible opinions, and Alex isn't far behind.

Rags' art seems to have gotten worse since then, too. On that book he was gold.

The biggest thing right now is, like you said, they consistently put out shows. Unlike Variant Edition and a few other video review sites, The Stack is fairly quick about it.

But yeah, some of the books they recommend are utter crap. It's a good comedy if nothing else.

I also like it because I'm always a week behind. Online ordering and whatnot.

Well, no two comic fans are gonna agree on everything. I don't watch them as if they have anymore clout than anyone here on this message board does, really. They're just three other dudes who like comics--sometimes the same comics I do, sometimes not. But they're usually entertaining, so I enjoy the show regardless.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about with Nightwing. He doesn't seem as consistent as he was on Hourman.

Chalk me up for another who misses that Hourman series.

Rags for me peaked on Identity Crisis - I haven't seen him do anything near that good since.

Yeah, he seems to be trying for a lighter style in general. Much finer hatching, less weight to the figures, etc. That may just be Bair's doing, since his linework seems pretty light as a whole, but I don't know.

It seems to have been a well-loved but not-bought series. My excuse is that I didn't really know about it until well after it was canceled. I read it entirely as back-issues.

Rags is on Nightwing? You know what, it doesn't matter. I've given Nightwing chance after chance after chance. I'm not interested.

I might pick up Nightwing, honestly, which would make it the first ongoing Bat-family book I've ever bought. Tomasi has been giving me nothing but gold recently, and you really have to mine for gold pretty hard at DC nowadays.

The one spin-off Batbook I read each and every month is Catwoman. It has always been pretty consistent since they revamped that title; and, is the only OYL title that actually had a decent event take place that was at all significant. It surpasses Robin and Nightwing in so many ways.

My thoughts exactly.

I haven't read it yet, but I was secretly hoping the new Nightwing creative team would be better than the last. It's pretty obvious reading from you guys that, that is not the case.

So :cmad:.

I can't comment on the last team because I didn't bother reading their run. Wolfman didn't sound like he had anything interesting planned.

Are you reading the same Catwoman as I am? Oh wait, I dropped Catwoman 2 months ago because it was meandering pointlessly and stripping away all of the interesting elements that it had accumulated over the last few years.

No he didn't. It started off decent, and then it was just bleh. Not terribly bad, but I shouldn't still have it on my pull. I need to drop it.

There are parts I didn't like; for example, the great cast of supporting characters have pretty much been done away with and OYL is now forgotten somewhat by having Selina give up her child. But, I do like how we get the Salvation Run storyline that is currently happening.
