DC Thoughts:
I actually started working on my stack of DC comics I had build up for 2-3 months this past weekend. I'd say "I was as sick as a dog," but I don't really know what that saying is suppose to imply. Are dogs suppose to appear sick? Anyway, for two nights, I just couldn't get to sleep; so, waiting for the sun to rise was passed with watching a couple foreign films and reading comics.
Green Lantern Corps #20: I read the last two parts to Sinestro Corps finally and all these epilogues. Green Lantern Corps is my favorite of the two Green Lantern titles; I just hope we don't have to focus both titles on just the Earthmen Lanterns. (I haven't been one to follow Green Lantern's adventures much; but, I already hate how the four main lanterns come from Earth...and, not just Earth, but America. It really seems kind of egotistical to say the four greatest come from our planet and even the same damn country.) I love diversity, and I enjoyed the first batch of Corps comics and the previous miniseries, because the only Earthman they used was Guy Gardner. It should stay that way.
Now, I don't really know much about Mogul; but, this comic did good at making me think he must be a kickass character for the Corps to fight in the upcoming future. 7/10
Green Arrow/Black Canary #4: This title is a vast improvement over Green Arrow's solo title. It's a nice, quick read, and has a good amount of action and drama. The art might not be the best; but, it's just a fun book. 8/10
52 Aftermath-Four Horsemen #6: A decent miniseries, and one that gives us the Big Three facing a humongous threat in the Four Horsemen. 7/10
Infinity, Inc. #5: I finished reading issues #2-5, and I'm dropping this title after finishing this first storyarc. It's not that it's a terrible book; it just seems to be trying too much to give us a group of new, young superheroes (I have enough of that with Marvel lately), and having the title focus on Steel and his association bores me to death. None of the characters interest me much. 5/10
Savation Run #3: This is a fun title. I love the two sides fighting with each other (Joker vs. Lex Luthor), and cannot wait to see what happens next. Sure, this rings a bit of stealing an idea from Marvel (combine dealing with the villians by sending them into the negative zone with Planet Hulk and you get this); but, it's a lot more interesting than the usual villians teaming up to be good guys that's being run into the ground lately. I like this will be tying into Catwoman, also. 8/10
Simon Dark #4: I love Simon Dark. It's not a title that is linked to any other title or event, and the feel is quite a bit different than other DCU books. Many DC books are much more rich in history, and the enjoyment of them can be effected by this. A new reader can start with issue #1 and not have read another DC book at all. 8/10
Suicide Squad #5: Quite the opposite of Simon Dark, this book does have quite a bit of history, which is always the case when you have Amanda Waller involved. Still, I'm quite happy with what I've read so far. I'm a fan of Checkmate, and this seems like a good spin-off from events I've been reading in that title. (The DCU is really becoming more complex. Things happening in Checkmate effect Suicide Squad which effects Salvation Run which ties-in with Catwoman and is talked about in Countdown.) 7/10
Nightwing #140: Through the years, I've tried reading Nightwing after one event or another. Yet, each time it's done nothing but disappoint. Maybe things are changing. Finally, the art looks decent, and the storyline stays in line with things happening in the Batman titles. This issue is still a bit more talky than anything else; but, I'll try it out for another issue. (Heck, it's a lot better than the Jason Todd storyline.) 6/10
Gen 13 #16: I gave up on this title with issue #6; then, after it had been going for a while, heard that Welcome To Tranquility was guest-spotting, and I picked up what I had missed. Now, I can say this title has become a favorite of mine. What a difference a year makes, and my only gripe is I want this title to get away from the group of people that are spying on the group of kids. I'm liking how each of the kids are currently doing their own thing in New York, even though we know by the end they will all unite and discover they can only trust themselves. 7/10
I read the four issues of Countdown: Arena. That was one of the best DC minis I read in quite a while. I loved that it got changed to a 4-issue series instead of the advertised 8-issues. Also, I dropped the Wonder Girl mini after 3 issues. It bored me to tears. Finally, the Ra's Al Ghul event in the Batman titles was a humongous disappointment. It should have been a normal storyline in one of the regular books, and the action and events shown didn't flow well at all.
Also, I read Youngblood #1. It's one and out for me. The characters are still very two dimensional and I care not a thing about them.
