BOUGHT/THOUGHT for June 13, 2007

World War Hulk is just more of the same liberal, anti-government, pro anarchy propaganda that has plagued the media for years.

All I've been hearing about both films is positive. I might have to track down both of them this weekend.

Oh goody, another theme poster...

Yay.

At least if we get a theme poster, why can't it be original? I mean, it's not like we haven't had rampant criticism/bashing of conservatives in comics or the media for some time now. :whatever:

Cool. Best Buys sells them dirt cheap.

You guys realize that I'm Bill O'Reilly right?

I wouldn't do that. I don't think I'd shout out "YOU SUCK!" or anything, but I don't think I could shake his hand. I'd probably just ignore him.

Why would you guys wimp out like that?

I could see myself now, "When you start doing something of quality, I'll start respecting you for it." Then just keep going. It's not like his life is going to change, or you're going to end up in jail or your butt kicked. You might as well tell it as it is. :o

But, Rob's one of those guys who are so untalented it's depressing. It's like kicking a man when he's down; except Rob's always down. And it's not his fault he's a talentless hack. It's the industry's fault for embracing that for so long.

You wouldn't tell a mentally challenged person you'd respect them when they start being smarter, would you? Same principle.

Back in the day maybe, since Rob was a notorious *****ebag in his "prime". Now, not so much.

I'd say, "Apparently you don't know me that well." But the truth is... you don't.

Rob's smart enough to get a job he's good at. If he so desires to live in his mediocrity for so long, he only deserves what I have to say. :o

Unless he thinks he's good, then I soften the blow to, "Why don't you go to ARCA?"

Thoughts:

Punisher War Journal #8: Continuing an annoying trend in comics lately, we constantly get a bunch of backstory while the current events go forth with a snail's pace. This title isn't particularily bad; but, the regular Punisher title is so much better with much more interesting characters that this pales in comparison. 7/10

Nova #3: I know there were just a bunch of people jumping on the Nova bandwagon before issue #1 even came out. They should be really disappointed that this Annihilation spin-off totally sold out by the second issue; and issue 3 really made that more apparent than ever. In order to try to up sales, Nova tries to tie into the Civil War spin-off, The Initiative, and fails miserably. You get a battle that goes nowhere, you get the "Tony Stark appeal" that we've seen in too many books nowadays (amazing how he can appear at a moments notice in every single book Marvel puts out; he's like Wolverine now), and we get the same old "my parents and friends don't understand me" issues. At least we get the next Annihilation saga starting next month. Hopefully the writers can do better than they did with this very predictable issue. 4/10

New Avengers #31: Finally some action that moves the story forward. Of course, in typical Bendis fashion, the conclusion leaves a lot to be desired. Once Elektra stops fighting, every ninja runs away to fight another day? Uh-huh. Elektra isn't Elektra...you think Wolverine would have detected that. Guess his old sniffer isn't working very well anymore. But, this is better than previous issues; so, I might be a bit generous in my rating. 7/10

Essential Marvel Two-In-One Vol. 2: Another great Essential trade. This one takes readers up to issue #52, including Annuals 2 and 3. The only problem is that while they reprint Annual #2, they don't give readers Avengers Annual 7 which preceeds it. This is, of course, the classic Thanos tale, and usually Essentials does a good job of reprinting tie-ins. Still, I'd easily recommend this book to anyone. 10/10

Kabuki Reflections #8: Another David Mack Reflections, showing off his drawings and reflections on them. I'm starting to wonder why Marvel continues to put out this book, when Mack doesn't seem to be writing anything original for them. It just screams of an artist living off their past. 6/10

Blade #10: A slightly better issue than the many that preceeded it, probably because it doesn't focus as much in the far past of Blade's younger years. (Although, showing Blade rescue a "Ben and May" way back when really stretched things a bit far.) Blade still tries to resurrect sales with a Spidey tie-in, and Blade continues to get clues to the mystery man in the green cloak. The problem is hardly anyone cares. The big reveal of this mystery man had me going "ho-hum." It's nice this title is cancelled. 6/10

A person's personality has never stopped me from directly speaking to them.

Unless they're like...REALLY nice people. Then I would shut my trap and go away.

how on earth can you give a book 6/10 (by definition above average) and then remark that it's cancellation is a good thing??

It's not like Rob was shoving X-Force comics down our throats. We were (well, I wasn't, but you get the idea) buying them. I don't blame Rob for getting the work that he has. I guess I'd blame the fans and Marvel.

I see Rob as someone who's just as confused about his own success as we are.

FYI about NEW AVENGERS #31, Bendis gives an interview at Newsarama where he acknowledges the Skrulls don't have a homeworld anymore, which means he is at least willing to allude to ANNIHILATION. He also claims this arc, planned since the series started, will stretch into 2008; he is optimistic and in theory the idea of a modern Skrull invasion story is interesting, but it has already been almost 2.5 years and tacking on another 1.5 years to it is really stretching things. Bendis wants to sow mistrust in the superhero community, by his own admission, by making it so one can't really tell who is a Skrull unless they die. Not even Wolverine, whose sense of smell became nearly omnipotent by the end of the 90's. He also admits, honestly, to ripping off the Cyclon thing in the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

I am a little skeptical because Bendis has tried reworking the underpinning of the MU far too often for my liking. But we'll see how it goes. It at least might explain why some characters were randomly resurrected and whatnot. Although he claims not to use it as an out to "erase" issues from HOM and CW, although I can easily see it as an easy excuse to rubout some errors. I'm not sure if other books besides "The Bendsiverse" titles will employ this plotline, though. They inevitably will, though, because he'll force them too.

So basically you hate Iron Man so you read it the way you wanted to read it. Gotcha.

You're not much one for the critical reading, are you? Here's a start for you - sometimes, people say things that are false because it suits their purposes to have other people believe that these things are true. Example: Iron Man claiming to be "protecting" the people of New York from a threat, that we as readers are fully aware wasn't threatening anybody other than Tony Stark & Company.

I guess I'll save the lesson on manipulating language re: claiming to take responsibility while actually doing no such thing for once you get up to the more advanced classes.

I wasn't even kidding about giving Pak credit, it was really a rather subtle and well-done bit of writing.

My heart bleeds not. :o

Nor pump blood.

The MOST likely deal about Skrull Elektra is that s/he was planted as an agent LOOONG before Annihilation.

Skrulls do that.

A lot.

So they "sold out" by having Nova deal with the issues of having the situation on earth change COMPLETELY since he's last been there? That's not something that the writers can just simply leave alone. And it's not like he can come back and deal with this without having to deal with the Initiative BS.

I get the impression some don't like the civil war? I thought it was a great storyline...
