Bought/Thought "I should be studying" Edition for Dec.6th!

Uncanny X-Men #481
This story's only real flaw is that 12 issues may be too much for it. Like the others, the writing is top notch and the plot makes a sufficient amount of progress in each issue. It's a little slow, but I always look forward to the next issue.

Hulk #101 (Planet Hulk part 10)

One of the rare comics where you don't even realize you're at the halfway point because it already feels like you've read a whole comic in that first half.Kudos to Pak and Pagulayan,I really wish they would leave him on the book instead of putting Frank on.

Last, but not too least:

NEWUNIVERSAL #1 Gave this book a try and will probably get the next issue, so it did it's job. The concept of the NEW UNIVERSE is a bit of a ropey concept; it's supposed to be normal people who get superpowers, but somehow don't become superheroes. It got cheesy when done in the 80's, as many of them did have oddball outfits and codenames. But in an era where HEROES have scored with this concept, Marvel has timed this release well, and it matches the concept; after a white event, several normal people discover extraordinary powers. And at least the New Universe predated HEROES by a good 20 years. If there is a downside, it is Larroca's art. It's not bad, but some panels are very sketchy and you can tell the colorist really saved it. Also, like Hitch, he attaches the faces of several Hollywood stars to so many characters that he owes these actors royalties; you can spot Johnny Depp, James Gandolfini, Keanu Reeves, Bruce Willis and Gene Hackman making unofficial cameos. I'm sure someone will offer some brilliant and accurate explaination for this, but it just distracts from the "illusion" when you read a story and go, "Oh, it's Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury" and all that. But aside for that, it's a good first issue and the rise of "Justice" is amung the book's best sequences. Plus, if you want a decompressed story with a bunch of interesting characters, Ellis practically majored in that in college. Worth a look.

Haha, I haven't read it yet but I skimmed it looking for cameos. Tony Soprano has Paulie and Silvio right next to him and the main guy Ellis looks like Sawyer from Lost. :D

After reading Beyond! I am really stoked to see how Fantastic Four is handled.:woot:

Daredevil #66-70 "Golden Age" by Bendis and Maleev

Finally got around to getting this arc and adding it to my Bendis/Maleev DD run.Defintely one of the stronger arcs of the whole run,the time jumping was great and used to great effect.I really miss Alex's art on a monthly basis so this was a treat.

Bendis needs to get back to his roots and write a street book again,he doesn't do epic superhero teams well at all.

Yayyzz, all I need is Decalogue and my Bendis/Maleev run is complete.

9/10

Okay, so Walking Dead #33.......A few months ago, Wizard did an article about the top fifty most disturbing moments in comics. There was the ending of Watchmen, some sort of slug boy, Death of the Invisible man in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen volume II. That sort of thing. If they had have waited a few months, this issue may have been at the top of the list. I think I may have seen something just as if not more so disturbing in a movie, or a book somewhere, but at the moment I can't seem to think of anything to top it. Now, I'm not the sort that likes violence for the sake of violence, but when it seems....I don't know, justified? I think it adds a bit more to it. What the Guv put Michonne through for those past few weeks, was probably worse than what she did to him. (Then again...) So when she finally gets the opportunity to get some payback, I suppose it's kinda.....sweet, I guess. She wanted bloody vengeance and she got it. Boy did she get it. I know that some people might feel that what happened was excessive and no one deserves to have their junk nailed to a wooden board, and whatever other whiney hippy crap they can come up with, but I mean, who cares what you think. It really fit with the way the story was going. It was...inevitable. And yet, at the end, after all that, he didn't die. So, eventually, it's gonna come back to bite them all in the ass. Which is good I suppose. It's hard to find a good villain these days. One thing I really thought was a smart move by Kirkman was the scene where Michonne vomits while spooning out his eye ball. It showed she was still human. Good issue. 5 out of 5.

I read more books, but thats all i'm gonna talk about right now.

The Walking Dead made me fear women with a toolbox.

Yeah. I'll never look at a spoon the same way again.

I got over my spoon phobia after that one episode of Oz.

Guess it puts a whole new meaning for the term "spooning," eh?

*snare roll*

You know you liked it. I look back and think to myself. Why is this one of my favorite shows ever?

Indeed, although in the aftermath of CIVIL WAR, the FF may still be broken up.

I'm more interested in what Watcher alluded to with Gravity. ;) It was a very noble death. And with Deathlok claiming it was "a waste" and Uatu claiming it wasn't the end, I wonder what Marvel has up their sleeve with him & his legacy.

.

A more interesting question is, if the FF is still split which team will the book be about Reeds or Sues?

I don't get the appeal either, but yet I watched every episode ever. I'm a sucker for HBO series; Six Feet Under, Oz, Sopranos, Curb Your Enthusiasm, etc.

That is a good question. Thing seems intent to go to France, while Sue & Johnny are on the Secret Avengers, while Reed is still, so far, part of the "Empire". It may depend on the aftermath. Reed may either be leading a new "gov't sanctioned" team or the other three could unite and spend time without Reed, which technically would be a little more mundane as the FF have spent long stints with Reed either missing or presumed dead a few times in the past.

"New Fantastic Four" Sue, Johnny, Storm, Panther.

Typical Marvel solutions:
a- He was a clone.
b- It was a Gravity from a different reality than 616.
c- He was a clone of the Gravity from an alternate future reality where he was Magneto's son.

You forgot "it was Phantom Stranger again, somehow".

I sort of doubt Uatu would have watched if it wasn't THE Gravity. His name was dropped as appearing in New Warriors next year so either that has changed or something is up for him. I dunno, sometimes some Marvel mini's seem to occur in a vaccuum, and Marvel doesn't acknowledge them, and sometimes they do. DRAX was simular to BEYOND!, a mini about an obscure character that Marvel tossed out without any notice or hype beyond what any ol' book does, and it sold like a stone. But then ANNIHILATION sprang from it and all of a sudden it was seen as a "prequal" to the event, which has sold modestly. So I am hoping BEYOND! becomes simular. They're moving McDuffie onto FANTASTIC FOUR, one of their core Marvel Universe titles, so he's not a pariah. Hopefully it sorts out.

Somehow is right since the Phantom Stranger is DC.;):D Unless you mean the Space Phantom amalgamated with the Stranger. Right? You probably meant it was the Space Phantom again, I get ya. I guess there's a good chance of that.

That's just it, you call him THE Gravity as if him being the one from 616 would have more weight than any other reality. The Watcher has access to all of them, as far as I know, so he could have easily meant other realities. We have no way of knowing. I always thought that the New Warriors thing was speculative and not a locked down character like Speedball.

Yeah, I meant Space Phantom. Their names gell.

It was probably speculation, but maybe I'm naively optimistic for once that Marvel has a plan here. Why else get McKeever to write the New Warriors if he can't use Gravity, his original creation?

I read the Black Panther tie-in to Civil War and god damn, not even Civil War could save that book (like it did for Amazing Spider-Man and New Avengers). This book is pure crap, and those who say books like New Avengers is Marvel's worst book, you've clearly haven't read Black Panther!

1. Do they really have to stress the fact that Black Panther is I dunno...African!

2. Why is a world leader involving himself with the affairs of another nation? Yes, they'll say injustice, but that doesn't excuse the fact that Black Panther is going out of his bounds here.

3. Why are all of Black Panther's and Storm's fans black?

4. This book didn't seem to get the memo that making the Superhuman Registration Act look as *****ey as possible is over. Trying to force Storm to register. Trying to make Black Panther look bad, and fail miserably by the way. Preemptively attacking Storm and Black Panther right in front of a crowd of people (who are 100% black for some odd reason)

5. The pathetic pwning of Iron Man by Black Panther. After the way Iron Man kicked Captain America's ass, should he basically kick Black Panther's ass the same way?

This book is just plain bad. Instead of good stories, this book relies on Black Panther's race and just trying to make him look awesome by any means necessary.

Hell the first four panels of this web-comic sum up what the hell this book is about:

Personally I think from a story telling perspective an anti-reg FF has more potential. The FF has never had to cope with anonymity because of their celeberaty status and it might be interesting to see them trying to avoid the spotlight for a change. Beside the whole government endorsed super team seems like it is going to be covered by Mighty Avengers.
