By the end of the year we'll have at least two more pictures in the 900mill plus. Leaving 2014 in a pretty good spot for WW numbers imo.

One of those films will drop out when the next Hunger Games movie comes out.

Not sure how the heck Maleficient made that much money. It was overall pretty horrible.

i have no comment to make on the quality of Maleficent since i haven't seen it...but yeah, how did it make that much again?

didn't really think it had broad enough appeal to overcome its mediocre marketing. i was wrong.

of course, the mind also boggles that people aren't sick of these Michael Bay Transformers travesties yet.

Live action PG kid/family film based around a classic Disney tale. Not many pg familly films out there, or ones that are more marketed to Women. Also has a very well known lead who is perfect for the role.

TF4 is 70mill away from overtaking TF3 and it looks on pace to do it.

Well, look at the numbers for TF3 and TF4 if you're not counting China:

TF3: $958,7 million
TF4: $753,5 million

I'd say there's definitely franchise-fatigue in the rest of the world. China is also a very special market in the sense of the rapid growth we're seeing there. Read somewhere that around a dozen theaters are bulit every day.

Franchise fatigue is there but, Jesus, they are still earning loads of money!

It's mostly from the US. Don't think the rest of the world dropped that much.

We haven't exactly tallied their total foreign totals as of yet(japan for instance). If at the end of the day the total sits around 100mill below that would be more indicative of the states and not so much the foreign.

Not exactly a franchise low if you will.
Without china TF4 would seemingly be the highest grosser this year(so far) and that's counting China for everyone else. Fatigue or no. Not exactly the worst thing for paramount going forward it was part four after all, and it did introduce a new cast so I can't expect they didn't atleast anticipate some sort of reboot dip. I'd expect a dip in TDK4 or IM4 at this point if they didn't pull some new pop culture villain or universe cross over move, and especially if they had to recast. Not the simplest thing to consistently reproduce those exact numbers especially with the given circumstances. Seeing how the first sequel in the new series does would be perhaps the most telling.

I'm not so sure the investors are as bothered by the dip if it means they can still return over a billion in future installments. Not unless the cost of the films goes up significantly. That's more than ASM1 and Hunger Games as starters.

Have you taken a look at the rest of this years films without China?

DotPotA probably passes TASM2 domestic today.

I doubt Transformer film costs go up too much. They've been so effects heavy right from the start and they must have mastered basic transformer robot fx by now. Just need investment for the new thing like dinobots that we are likely to get on each subsequent film to try and keep it visually a bit fresh. Also they seem to have a formula about the kinds of actors they want. Bay must be in a good bargaining position by now though.

Transformers: Age of Extinction.....was it really that good? that it became the top of the list? I just want to know because I haven't watch it yet....

X-Men: Days of Future Past seems a little bit confusing on how come Professor X is alive at this sequel ? when he already died in X-men :the last stand? Am I right? Its just too confusing though for me the movie was great.

Maleficent in disney and Maleficent portrayed by Jolie was really the opposite...but if i had to choose between the two i'll go with Jolie with and her lost wings....

I am shocked that TASM2 has made that much money.

I'm shocked that 700 million is "under-performing"

^ Me too

Same thing with Loki.both died in one movie and appeared in the next. They were shown to be alive in the post-credits of the former movie

It's what happens when you waste so much money on marketing and end up with the film that has made the least ammount of money in the franchise. Spider-Man used to be an A-Level Blockbuster franchise, now it's only B level, not realy toping at the end of the year grossings, but still remaining in the top 10. I hope it teaches Hollywood what may happen when you reboot a franchise that's still popular, without actualy improving or making something as interesting to replace.
