Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

How many theaters will this movie have for opening weekend?

Will they have money before opening weekend like Spider-Man 3?

1. Fantastic Four 2 $ 80 million.
2. Who Cares
3. Who Cares
4. Who Cares
5. Who Cares.
6 thru 10 WHO CARES.

:oldrazz:

FF gets theirs, and every other movie can pick over the carcus.
That's what I'm talking about!

Right now it is slated for 3,800 +. It will have over 4,000 theaters by the time it opens. I just hope they do not make the same mistake Pirates did. Having showings before the midnight showing. If they have 2 or 3 evening showings before the midnight showings, then all bets are off. No way it will officially hit 80.

Pirates had showings Wednesday and Thursday......pretty much having a Wednesday opening....thats what pulled them down for their weekend pull.

Doesn't look like Fox is doing anything different from what they did in 2005....

And the news from you friend at the theatre? I haven't heard you say much about the FF presales in your area....(since you were all over the big guns this summer. :cwink:

I think it would come near pulling the single adults more than the teenagers....and single adults don't necessarily do repeat visits of movies....so may it pull some, sure.....but I'm not that worried about it. They'll see it this weekend.....and I doubt they will do a repeat visit.

Apparently fewer people went to see Oceans 13, it grossed less than 11 or 12 this weekend. Can't remember what my prediction was for it next weekend...but its lower now....Found it....had it at 15--19 mil, I'll take it down to 11 -- 15 mil.

I think it's going to be a really strong opening weekend for ROTSS, Considering that Pirates has been out for a few weeks now and Transformers is still a ways away..This is the perfect Window of Opportunity for this Movie to bring in some strong numbers for the next three weeks.

I went to POTC 3 today for the first time, 3 other people were in the theatre with us....so that made a total of 7 people in the theatre.....and in one of the largest theatres in Houston, its already down to only 2 showings per day......I was SHOCKED at that.

I think Die Hard will pull the biggest bucks from it, with The Transformers being the next big opening....

I would say the midnight showings are different though, wouldn't you agree? I don't recall anything like that back in 2005. And it's funny--ALL of the big theatres here have Thursday Night showings in place.

There's a surprising level of buzz on this film. I think it can deliver a Xmen 2 type of opeing, and I'm not sold on Die harder, as the last film sucked...omho of course.

Of the F4 movie? I went to a midnight showing last time.... So no, these are not new....

uh-oh. trackings dropped; but ill wait for the next set.

It should make a great number of bucks this weekend. As for it reaching $220+ million total domestically, I severely doubt it.

Uh oh. I think we should now stop prediciting 60+ million for this movie because the trackings have dropped badly.

At RS and MTC the movie is tracking 45 million which is well below last weeks 55 million. Somewhere something went wrong. I think Jessica should not have said the movie will be the comedy movie of summer.

Also I am guessing due to oceans thirteen underperformance the trackings have been lowered.

Just want to say don't be dissapointed if the movie flops this weekend. Even if it manages similar number as last f4 movie it will get terrible legs due to the fact that the movie is a sequel and right now people are tired of watching sequels.

It is going to be so dissapointing that two franchises could die this weekend. Silver surfer and f4.

For some reason I am not worried about any of this. I'm still expecting this to come in huge. We went through something similar in 2005 when the entire box office was in a rut.

It will struggle to cross the $170m mark overseas and in the US.
I say $160-170m in the US and $150-170m overseas for $310-340m ww.

i said the same in 2005 with ff1 and ill say it now; and thats that i cannot imagine anything under 60 million; but both trackings have it at 44 million 3 day...which i find kind of ridiculous, but numbers dont lie...

Tracking Shmlacking...70 million this weekend shouldn't be a problem. Tracking for SM3 was 112 million over first 3 days...remember. LOL
