Yeah my theater is only playing it like 6 times now. it started with 14 on monday went down to 10 on wednesday and 5 or 6 on friday.

If the GA was really digging this movie: the month the movie was released or the competition would not stop this movie from having good legs, competition would hurt it, but it wouldn't be the biggest factor.

This very place was showing how the flick would be received. I was really hyped when the first WETA pics of the Silver Surfer were around.

But then the bad rumors on Galactus started (all confirmed); the bad rumors about Doom (the same); the first bad omens with the corny powers' switch and dialogues from the trailers and clips.

I bet people are feeling like that after leaving the theatres. I was. "Damn, he did it again!"

That's strange. I was thinking great job. And this movie has gotten good word of mouth. Not great, but anyone who has seen both movies, and can come from seeing the 2nd one can say he did it again, had their mind made up, and has other agendas.

I wonder why. The problem I had with this movie was that it felt like they were saving everything for a spin-off movie rusulting with us only getting the "just of it" with the Surfer and Galactus story. I think that if Fox would have focused more on the best Fantastic Four sequel they could make and less on a possible Silver Surfer spin-off we would have recieved a far more satisfying and complete movie, also the run time and the over-all-to-quick ending didn't help either.

FINAL WEEKEND TRACKING: 'Ratatouille' to grab $48M-$51M; 'Die Hard 4' headed for $22M-$25M; 'Sicko' should top $10M; 'Evening' set to tank

Live Free or Die Hard (Fox) is now open. I went online with an opening day projection of $8-$10M early last night, revised to $8M last night at 10:30a, and pushed it to $8.8M this morning at 9am. Box Office Mojo released its Wednesday estimate at about 11a, and they’re at $9.1M. That is a good, not great, start for John McClane. I’m raising my 5-day slighty to the $36M-$39M range and a traditional 3-day weekend of $22M-$25M. For more analysis on Die Hard 4, read my Wednesday tracking column.

3 more major movies hit America’s multiplexes tomorrow (6/29), and Ratatouille (Buena Vista) and Sicko (Lionsgate/Weinstein) are both certain hits, while Evening (Focus), despite its amazing cast, a certain miss

The most ominous insider analysis that I was given about Ratatouille this week, is that its “tracking is almost identical to Over the Hedge.” It’s not that Hedge wasn’t a hit, with a $38.4M opening weekend and $155M domestic. It’s that those numbers would be a disaster by Pixar standards.

Based on all of this analysis, there is no way that Ratatouille gets to $70M like Finding Nemo and The Incredibles, and I say that the chances are slim that the Disney marketing department can get it to $60M like Monsters, Inc. and last summer’s Cars. But, high $40M’s seems doable and cracking $50M would be real accomplishment. I’ll go on the line with a $48M-$51M opening weekend.

I had the exact opposite reaction: "Damn, that was actually better! A LOT better!" (And I gave the film a C+ in the review showcase thread; one of the lowest grades anyone gave it.)
I don't know what the general public's word of mouth is, but all 4 of the comic shop owners I've spoken to in recent weeks say their customers' reactions (the ones who have seen it) have been very positive.

Off-topic a bit: I think the opening of Ratatouille is going to stun a lot of people. My kids are more jazzed to see that film than Spidey, Pirates & FF combined.

I don't think so. Rat isn't being hyped up very well like the Pixar movies of the past. Plus it just seems.........off! Hard to explain but I think it'll make $50million this weekend. Face it peeps, this summer is really crowded!

Your right they don't know who Galactus is which is why it would have been a good idea to have actually had him in the movie as a character and not just a vague presence but they didn't so how do you think the audience saw Galactus in this movie then, most likely as a creep storm like cloud that was destroyed in a minute before it even had a chance to do anything. With all the action movies out in todays time do you really think the general audience would feel satisfied with that? Do you feel the way it was done in this movie would make the general audience say "I have got to go back and see that again and again?" I liked this movie for the most part but it could have been so much more.

While i'm sorry for the FF fans that this movie isnt doing well, i am also glad that it isnt doing well because it is what Fox have had coming to them for a few years IMO.

I had the same experience. I go to a couple of shops and both owners said the same thing....they thought FF2 was a greatly improved on the first and they were surprised to say they liked it. One said he wasn't even going to go at first since he was disappointed by the first movie.

Yeah Ratatouille could go either way......Surf's Up didn't do all that well this summer.....maybe the kids are penguined out and a rat is something new and exciting....lol

I had to help a friend deal with a field mouse invasion earlier this week (she bought an old house smack in the middle of the woods) so I have mixed feelings about seeing this with my kids today. One of the mice I whacked looked a lot like the main character in Ratatouille: pink nose and paws, almost blueish fur...
By the way, the quickest way to end a mouse problem is to seal up all crevices and possible entrances with steel wool.

Locally, FF2 went from 3 screens to 2. No big loss there.
What really surprised me is that Spidey 3 is gone entirely, and apparently has been for a couple of weeks. (Spidey 2 stayed around almost 3 months) And Pirates 3 is down to 2 shows a day.
