I will say this...whatever Sony is doing to market over seas - perhaps Fox could learn something. Seems like Spider-Man is killing. Better over there than the first 2. Seems like FF could have benefited from that approach.

The distributors overseas for FF suck.....they did a horrible job the first time....I was surprised it did as well as it did.

Constantin doesn't have the best of reputations for promoting....

I think this goes back to our earlier discussion about how the whole "Silver naked dude on a flying surfboard" was just too crazy for mainstream America.

I will say this, as I've always believed, that anything done really well will translate across all categories of people.

If you'd shown me a clip of Napolean Dynamite I wouldn't have given it a second thought(and I didn't). But word of mouth of how good it was got me watching it. Evidently the whole concept of the Surfer didn't translate to everyone because of those reasons.

Fox's "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer" also showed enough traction to remain on track to equal the international performance by its predecessor, which took in $175 million two years ago. "Surfer" landed with $15.2 million at 6,200, pushing the cume to $81.2 million, as Mexico kicked in $3.3 million in its second frame and Brazil launched with a beefy $2.9 million; it opens in August in France, Korea and Spain.

Variety. Add that to the 115 million and we're near 200 million worldwide with loads of international markets lined up in July & August.

Good point Blades...FF2 is actually tracking ahead of FF o nthe international front, which leads me to believe that those openings in August are going to be well received. Sequels seem to perform better than they do domestically, and FF2 looks to follow that trend.

So, chances are that FF2 will delvier a performance nearly identical to FF, but for $30 million more...hmmmm....Fox needs to commit sufficient resources to close out the trilogy, if they expect to deliver a huge B.O. on that film.

Solid start, but the 800-lbs gorilla is right around the corner, and it's going to beat people up and take their lunch money. Transformers only chance is stagger their launches, as several others are doing.

Domestically, Transformers might fair better against HP, but internationally, it's would be pummeled into oblivion, so while it's avoiding HP in several big markets, I don't think it's avioding it far enough, for example...2 weeks in the UK and Japan...that's not enough...imho. So, basically, there's not going to be any eye popping numbers for this film....at least internationally.

The fact that the movie is falling behind the first domestically can be traced directly too the lack of marketing from Fox, and the fact they pulled their advertising right after the film was released. This probably cost them at least 10 million domestically if not more.

BS. Marketing was tremendous and it's still on TV. Of course it's not going to be at the same level after 2 weeks. IT costs too much.

I guess we need some perspective here. 115 million dollars means someone is seeing this movie for sure. Maybe not as many as the first movie but;

115 million is a a lot of moola.

And once again it is still 115 million dollars and counting.

For FF 2 to have the same 7.5 % drop as Spider-Man 2's drop from Spider-Man, it would need to finish with $ 143 million domestic. It still has 115 days to go ( 16.4 weeks )to equal FF's run. $ 243,478.26 average per day.

Y'know, I don't think this one has as big of a chance with all of the competition even though it could. I said earlier, that 3 of the 4 Potter films made over 800 Mill, but those 3 were released during the winter while the one that made the least was released in the summer with alot of competition.

Seriously, I hate that! The moment the film is released they just stop playing any more previews! Not everyone can see the damn film opening weekend

They're still running pretty frequently on Nick, Cartoon Network, Sci-Fi, FX and I'm sure plenty more cable outlets. I saw a few spots in the 8:00 eastern/7:00 central time period on the major networks last week as well.
