Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

I am very happy with what I saw on the screen. My happiness does not depend on what it makes at the box office. That is for the studio to worry about. It would be more exciting to talk about if it was doing well, but that's it. Box office is for conversation, and bean counters. The movie is for the fan, and public. I can seperate the 2. If some think underperformance at the box office = crappy movie, then that's their problem.

Once again, you say you don't care but the content of your posts says otherwise.

And people are constantly trying to steer the conversation away from the numbers of this movie.

We go with whatever question is asked, or whatever direction the conversation may take.......you can only discuss so much on BO, we know its slowing down, no one's denying that.....so the discussion goes other places....it happens on every single thread on the hype.......

But really Vile, just as C.Lee has said several times......your posts are getting old....and you really need to move on someplace else....seriously.

Fridays estimates are in :

Nothing on FF 2.

TF's :

Domestic: $248,444,000 62.9%+ Foreign: $146,657,283 37.1%= Worldwide: $395,101,283

HP :

Domestic: $185,481,000 49.0%+ Foreign: $193,000,000 51.0%= Worldwide: $378,481,000

And....it upsets me when you spend all of your time upsetting other people by constantly ragging on a movie they like. You just want to start fights....and I'm real tired of it.

Agreed.

VileOne, it's been like...almost 4 years of it dude. We all know you hate the movie, so what else is there to accomplish? Do you honestly believe you're going to change people's minds if they like these films? Have you ever noticed that no one here really gives a damn about changing your mind? That's because no one really cares what you think. So why the energy waste on your part?

Seriously, I've never seen a user devote this much time bashing a franchise--and annoying others who enjoy it. It's lame dude...get over it.

It's now quite obvious that FF is fading in the cinemas. My local venues have it showing just twice a day now, both late-night showings (so not aimed at families at all!). Die Hard, Potter, Transformers and Shrek have many screenings per day and are no doubt biting chunks out of FF - although TF and Potter have just opened here in the UK so that's to be expected. Shrek has new adverts on TV, so they are trying to bolster it against the competition; and Potter has new trailers showing on TV too to keep up the momentum.

I'm tempted to see Potter and TF, but I'm not sure. I don't really care for Potter and think the books offer nothing original (and they're aimed solidly at kiddies, I like things a little deeper in writing style) and the one Potter movie i did see was, to me, unimpressive. TF looks good if you like that sort of thing. But I'd like to see them to judge their 'quality' against FF.

I saw TF, I enjoyed the action, I wasn't overly impressed with the characterization, but the action was well worth my $8....

I read those numbers at first and thought they were for Rise of the Sufer. I was like wow, that's a boost:wow:

lol

You'll find the Varsity team over there.....

There aint a lot to talk about anymore Vile. FF is about done. It is going to have like 129 million by tomorrow and the big question now is can it wrassle another 1 million out of the BO to get to 130.

After next week Fox should get it into the dollar theaters right now.

I'm not defending Vile, and maybe I wasn't paying that close enough attention to every post, but I think of him as not so negative as more of a critical thinker.

Agent 194, Lyle Waggoner's screentest for Batman was included in the "Return to the Batcave" movie that West and Ward did. it's on DVD even though the show isn't.

Umm, the first movie came out 2 years ago.

I have just as much right to post here as anyone else does. As for energy wasted, there's little of that.

I'm not trying to change anyone's mind. I'm simply calling it like I see it. People like the movie, fine, but don't act like these numbers are fantastic and below all the overblown prediction. And don't act like other movies are drawing terrible numbers in order to prop this movie up, because they aren't.

Seriously, I've never seen a user devote this much time bashing a franchise--and annoying others who enjoy it. It's lame dude...get over it.

When this franchise is out of the hands of Fox and in the hands of people who are serious about making it into a great franchise, I will.

^^ I think we have all gotten a little bitter at some things, If Fox does not come through and greenlight FF3 I could easily see myself writing them off period, I just feel like they are playing us and not with any kind of affection.

They are going to have to work hard to get back into the good graces of the fanboys.

No wonder they pulled out of Comic Con, I suspect they were not going to be all the popular out there.

The surprising decision to pull out of Comic Con has nothing to do with fanboys reactions to FF, X3, Elektra etc.If they really were scared i suspect they would have never agreed to come the event in the first place.:woot:

Variety and Chud.com have posted articles on the real situation.

Frankly, i never expected them to use the panel time to announce a potential FF3 and/or SS spin-off.I suspect they're waiting to see how FF2 does at the overseas box office before making their next move cause the domestic is disappointing which ever way you look at it.

Tim Story and Mark Frost's deals for FF2 weren't announced until December '05, a few days before the dvd hit shelves (The official release date was set much earlier though). If Fox applies a similar strategy with FF3 i think we'll have to wait until the Autumn/Winter before we get any official news regarding another FF adventure.

BTW i'm finally starting to see commercials on tv here.Strange thing though... i've yet to see the final theatrical trailer in a theater.

I wouldnt be a bit surprised if they pull a *hulk* on the next F4 film.
Some fans here liked how fox and story did F4, and thats kool, but the vast majority of the public did not.
I just cant see how a third F4 or a Surfer film would do any better with fox or story at the helm.

We can't do this, and I'm not usually a "what if" kind of person, but I wish we could have seen how this 2nd movie would have done as a Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday movie, or 2008 instead of this full to overflowing summer.....it would have been interesting to see....

It could have did lots better, but who knows. I do concede that I think right now people are kinda sick of going to see the latest *MUST SEE MOVIE* of the summer.

July 24 is the premiere of the Simpsons movie and i'm sure Tom Rothman will be there as well. That's the best shot at getting some qoutes on FF3 for now.
