Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

Agent 194, Lyle Waggoner's screentest for Batman was included in the "Return to the Batcave" movie that West and Ward did. it's on DVD even though the show isn't.

Really? Now that's cool. When are the suits and the Dozier daughter going to settle this? Those Batman DVD's were long past due. Everyone's gone except Adam West and Burt Ward to do any kind of commentary. They missed a huge opportunity....this past Sep was the 40th.

At any rate, thanks. I'd like to see that and any other famous ones that might still survive.

I wouldnt be a bit surprised if they pull a *hulk* on the next F4 film.
Some fans here liked how fox and story did F4, and thats kool, but the vast majority of the public did not.
I just cant see how a third F4 or a Surfer film would do any better with fox or story at the helm.

I'm not sure I know what you mean by pulling a hulk.

July 24 is the premiere of the Simpsons movie and i'm sure Tom Rothman will be there as well. That's the best shot at getting some qoutes on FF3 for now.

July 24 eh? A good day for a Simpsons movie. My birthday.

I hope it's a Winter 2010 release. This franchise needs room to breathe. It's improving in quality quite a bit it just can't stand up to Potter, Narnia, Spiderman, Batman, Hulk, Pirates, Transformers, etc...At least not as it is.

Hahaha
I read that as "Take your best shot," which I think many X-Men & FF fans would like to do right now. :woot:
A little Freudian Dyslexia on my part, I guess.

Weekend estimates from BOM:

1. Chuck and Larry - $ 34.775 mil
2. HP 5 - $ 32.185 mil (- 58.3%) for $ 207.541 mil so far
3. Hairspray - $ 27.8 mil
4. TF - $ 20.506 mil (- 44.6%) for $ 262.969 mil so far
5. Ratatouille - $ 11 mil (- 38.9%) for $ 165.628 mil so far
6. Die Hard 4 - $ 7.3 mil (- 35.3%) for $ 116.466 mil so far

13. FF 2 - $ 740,000 (- 54.7%) for $ 128.868 mil so far

Well FF2 should be at 129 by Mon. or Tue. Then another 400,000 next week leaving another 600,000 or so reach 130mil.

How can it no cross 130 million. It hasn't got the bump up from discount theatres yet. It's on the same exact trajectory as the Hulk almost.

Weekend estimates are in :

That's the smartest thing I've heard. It can't compete with the big boys, that's obvious. I don't think in whatever form it would take, it could compete with the big boys. It's not that kind of franchise. If this movie had had a fall to winter release, I think the results may have been much different, and if the 3rd one has a fall to winter release, it will be a big suscess. It's not a summer blockbuster franchise. Even release it before the summer, in the spring.

Agreed.

The first Hulk didnt meet the studios expectations, so they waited 5 years and are now in the process of doing another with a new director, new cast, etc etc.
For the record, the Hulk is one of my fav C.B. films.

Was the original cast signed on for more than one movie, or signed on with The Hulk as a franchise, or with Universal...???

^ Universal. However I think Universal gave up the rights early to keep the distribution rights from going to Paramount. Either way I think that voided everything. It didn't matter because Marvel didn't want this film to resemble the 1st.

Mine too but that's because I love the character. I'm happy we get to see a new take on the character. I think it's gonna be far superior to the original on almost every level.

It's time for Vile to come in and say we're not talking about FF2's box office performance.

I agree. its looking like it will be a fantastic film.

Thats why I wouldnt be upset if they did the same with F4. Marvel gets the rights back, and makes an F4 themselves.
Can you imagine an F4 done by marvel??? we'd all be like ------> :wow:

Still though, if it stays with fox/story, i'll still see it though.

^Look at all those places it hasn't opened in yet, it seems like it still has a chance to make alot more in theaters...

Final 'Potter' Book Breaks Sales Records

Jul 22, 12:25 PM EST

The Associated Press

NEW YORK -- The records are breaking, yet again. Borders Group Inc. announced Sunday that "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" sold 1.2 million copies worldwide in its first day, the biggest single-day number ever for the superstore chain. According to orders, the previous Potter, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," sold 850,000 copies on its first day of release in 2005.

Scholastic Inc., the book's U.S. publisher, was expected to announce sales figures later Sunday. British publisher Bloomsbury will release data Monday.

The seventh and final volume of J.K. Rowling's fantasy series was released Saturday with a first printing of 12 million in the U.S. alone. Pre-orders for Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble topped 1 million and stores everywhere reported manic activity upon the book's midnight release.

Reviews have been almost universally ecstatic and sales and reader enthusiasm apparently unharmed by prerelease "spoilers" that proliferated on the Internet.

"The book was fascinating and I think I'll have to read it through at least once more before I get the full scope of it — but I thought it had some of her best, most action-packed, funniest moments in it," says Melissa Anelli, webmaster for the Potter fan site http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org, who said she finished the 759-page book Saturday.

Note : HP 6, and 7 are going to explode. This is for Hunter, because he can't understand what kids see in Harry Potter.
