Rise of the Silver Surfer BOX OFFICE Discussion

We probably won't hear anything until all results are in, including DVD sales.

Maybe if the international tallys are good enough the buzz may pick up somewhat.

I really would like to hear something before October.

Just like Superman is important enough to get a sequel then I think Fox has to understand that FF is one of their more important franchises.

Now some humble pie may need to be eaten but the money is still possibly on the table for a final ff film.

Does anyone know what percentage of income studios get from DVD rentals, if any?

Does anyone know what percentage of income studios get from DVD rentals, if any?

Fox videos will put this out, and the actors do not get a % unless its written into their contracts, which the only actor I know of that has successfully done that is Tom Cruise...so they will probably get quite a bit........but to say I'm an authority on that would be far from the truth...lol Just wait, an expert will come through soon I'M SURE.....:cwink:

The studio gets about 50% of DVD rentals and a higher percentage of DVD sales.

All A-list stars have it written into their contracts that they get a percentage of DVD revenue. Cruise isn't unique in that respect. But the studios rely on DVD revenue to turn a profit, especially since they give away so much of theatrical revenue in participation deals, so they have an accounting trick to minimize how much of it they share with stars and producers.

They treat DVD revenue as income generated by the home entertainment division, with the DVD being treated as a separate product derived from the feature film. The entertainment division then pays a small percentage of what it makes from DVD sales and rentals to the theatrical division as payment for the original film from which the DVD was derived (hope you're following this). The percentage is only about 16%. The money paid out to stars and producers is based on the share paid to the theatrical division, not on the total. So a star getting 20% of DVD revenue is actually only getting 20% of the 16% of DVD revenue that is allocated to the studio's theatrical division.

Hope that wasn't too complicated. :yay:

What?

Carp:
I liked FF2, too. I'm not sure why it underperformed. Any news on the sequel?

Forget what TAF says, yes there will be a 3rd movie, when is the question. :cwink: She's non commital. I commit. The Carp Man knows all, sees all. Nothing slips by me. Had to go buy a new tv today. :whatever: Oh well that one lasted 15 years. Can't really complain.

FF 2 #'s thru Monday :

Domestic: $130,818,830 51.3%
+ Foreign: $124,020,761 48.7%

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

= Worldwide: $254,839,591

^^ I think (lol) Albafan was being sarcastic Carp, we are all a bunch of BO and contract moguls now. We know about how these deals go down.

Heck some of us could actually negotiate a contract or two right now between the studios and Marvel or DC.

I volunteer to renegotiate the deals with Fox.

Albafan knows she's cool in my book. :woot: I enjoy going back and forth with her. Yea your right, and some of us could do a better job. :cwink: I have no desire to negotiate any kind of a deal with Fox, unless it would be getting the rights to the FF away from them. That would be the only deal that would interest me. If only........................ If I had Bill Gates money, or the Walton familys money, I'd wow Fox with an offer, then I would have creative control. I'd give the franchise back to Marvel, and put the money up to have a FF movie that is in keeping with the proud tradition of the franchise. I'd have Stan right next to me giving me his ideas. This franchise is the best ever, and this movie should not be struggling the way it is, and the blame rests at Fox's door.

We could be near 265-270 by the end of next weekend. Japan will be a nice boost. I think 280 is assured as the bottom.

I'd love to see it hit 300 WW, but that's a pipe dream now. $ 280 would in my opinion be a great accomplishment, considering how fast it went down the tubes. That would be $ 50 million short of the 1st one. Studio gets 55 %, that would be $ 154 million. $ 24 million above the reported budget.

Some Tuesday estimates here :

We got celling fans, and 3 box fans going, and it's still 91 in the house. Can't open the windows because that will let in more hot air, but I'll tough it out. I think back to boot camp. 100 degrees going on a 20 mile road march. This is nothing. :woot: I grew up without AC. I know how to keep cool on hot summer days. Problem is we are too dame spoiled. We go from our AC car, to our AC house.

I live in Southeast Texas, 100 degrees is Autumn......:word:

We've actually had a pretty nice summer up until last week and this week....of course it rained everyday also, so that kept the temp down quite a bit....last week we were only around 91 to 05, but with our humidity it felt like 101 to 107 all week....and then of course the Tropical Storm Eric moved in and we've had excessive rain for the past 2 days....and it looks like we may get Dean as well.......oh well........the perils of the Gulf of Mexico.....
