Go Transformers! Bend over and take that Spidey! :oldrazz:

Even though i'm maybe a bigger Spidey fan that is a very flawed way to look at things....SP3 had two great sequels and an unbelieveble anticipation because of it,TF on the other hand has had an amazing start and it's a first in the series...a good comparison would be:

SP1 151.6 millions in 7 days

TF 152.5 millions in 6 and a half days

I think if the sequel is on par or better than TF 1 it can make 900-billion for sure...i mean to have the best 7 days opening for a non sequel EVER is astonishing

It´s not a good comparison, Spidey 1 was released in less theaters and it sold a lot more tickets (that number doesn´t account inflation).

The best comparison is with current movies. It´s about the same as POTC3, which is indeed excellent for a non-sequel, but not Earth-shattering. It will need great legs to pose a threat to Spidey 3.

Took Spidey Friday-to-Sunday to make what Transformers did Tuesday-Sunday. :oldrazz:
Yeah but if TF had opened up on Friday i think it would have creamed Spidey's record. I really wished it had opened up on friday, so that the record would be official.

It could have broken the all-time six-day record, and it didn´t. The opening is excellent, but don´t try to justify why it didn´t beat this or that movie.

Please, the proof is in the pudding. A movie has a much better chance of breaking a three day record than it does a six day record, because after a few days of it's initial release, most have seen it already, so by days 4-7 a large percentage of it's intake is made by ppl who are returning for repeat viewings. After 3 days or so, it's B.O will start to dwindle.

Sounds like meaningless speculation to me. Fact is Transformers didn't end open on a Friday so we'll never know one way or the other.

I have no idea how the three-day weekend record is easier. The Spidey 1 record lasted till the third movie of the same franchise. The argument you´re posting works for a movie as much as it works for its competitors for the record.

Lets go Transformers!!

Im going to add to that today with my money!!! Lets push it over for sunday!!!

You're talking about Spiderman 3, which is not the comparison that is being made. EVERY sequel to a previously GOOD film starts off better, so comparing Spiderman 3 to Transformers is NOT a fair comparison. Of course Spiderman 3 should (and did) do better; the two previous spiderman films were excellent and spiderman has a massive fan base.

The more accurate comparison is Spiderman 1 vs. Transformers... which in this case Transformers managed to beat Spiderman in it's first 7 days dollarwise. If you want to factor in inflation, the time of year, the weather outside, and every other little factor go right ahead but the fact of the matter is Transformers outsold Spiderman 1 in it's first week of release.

If it makes you feel less threatened, though, there is no way Transformers will pass Spiderman 1's $400 million dollar domestic total.

There´s no "threat" here, the studios love to put out those "record-breaking numbers" cuz it´s great publicity and the stockholders love it, but the truth is that a lot of it is created artificially with ticket price increases and adding more and more theaters to big releases. TF didn´t sell more tickets than Spidey 1, just as Spidey 3 didn´t sell more tickets than Spidey 1.

Well the reason i say it's easier is because, let's say with TF, everyone that wanted to see it as soon as it hit theaters and went Monday night, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, would have been forced to see it Friday through Sunday, if it had be released on a Friday. Thus the gross wouldn't be as spread out as it is. I believe TF's Friday- Sunday gross is around 40-50 million, but that 's because most had already seen it during the weekdays.

It's the kind of film one can get addicted to. I've seen it three times now with a plan to see it at least two more times in theaters. Once hopefully this week and once possibly during the weekend.

Why?

I personally love this film. The comedy is great and always works. I'm one who really loves a coming of age story in films and a character that I can relate to- in this case, Sam Witwicky due to being around the same age, having the same suburban upbringing and type of parents. The action is out of this world and really amazing, definite guarantee for the academy award in effects. Makes me feel like a kid again and has that undeniable Spielbergian tone to it. It's all good.

Personally, for me, I find that the best types of films are excellent escape films. The three best films, in their own right, over the past couple of years have been: Batman Begins, Casino Royale and Transformers. These films really played to the crowds and were excellent escapes from the day to day daily life. Batman Begins nailed the whole tone of Batman in comics, especially the more recent ones. Casino Royale was an amazing James Bond film that was balanced a serious tone with a blockbuster type tone perfectly, the Bourne series almost has it but focuses too much on the seriousness- imo. And Transformers is an amazing Spielbergian type film reminiscent of Jurrassic Park I and II.

I wish people would stop comparing the box office numbers to that of Spidey, and vice versa and especially getting rabid over the matter. They're both doing good, thats what matters!

^. Why?

And saying they were both good (i assume your comparing TF with SM3) is a matter of opinion.

None of that proves that the record is easier to break, that argument would be valid for any movie opening in that period. Other movies opened in a six-day period and made better numbers than TF.
