Transformers Box Office Thread

As of Saturday, Potter is looking at almost $200 which is pretty equivalent of TF on it's 11th day.

And releasing the book near the movie just creates hype for both. People want to see how it ends and they want to see the 5th book interpretation on screen.

yeah, I don't think anyone here is giving Potter any credit, even though it is keeping pace with Transformers

I really hope Paramount realizes the chance for a sequel...

if they have, awesome... they'd be fools to not make another one.

I actually think that Potter is holding is better then TF. On it's 11th day Potter had made more then TF. Obviousy the book came out meaning that virtually every Potter fan is reading it. Not to mention the competiton of Sandler's new movie as well as Hairspray. Say what you want about Hairspray but the moment a movie is promoted on Oprah you can expect the female folk to watch such a movie.

But yeah i still feel that people aren't giving Potter nearly enough recognition IMO.
Great for TF . 300 mil is a dead lock although i wonder if it will be able to surpass Shrek 3.

That's a very flawed way to look at things....the book, the book..

It's not the book, every single HP movie except the 1 is/was frontloaded,it's the way these movies are they dont pick fans with every new movie, either you love it or you hate it and you know on which side you are by the time the 2 movie is out not the 5-th...

The fans that bought the book have already watched the movie it's not like the book was released at the first day of the movie.

And for comparison:

TF 1 weekend/2 weekend 70 mil.$/37 mil$. 47%

HP 1 weekend/2 weekend 77 mil.$/32 mil$. 59%

nough said :woot:

Potter is doing great for a summer movie - but it's performing more or less as well as past Potter films. It's opening was the biggest for it's franchise yet, but this weekend's drop of 59% should have been realized and expected because it's the fifth sequel in it's franchise and the final book was released during the weekend.

I'm not bashing on Potter, but simply put it will not break $300 million.

COurse it wont break 300 million. Aside from the 1st potter movie , no movie has hit 300 mil and this won't be an exception. Not to mention that the last Potter movie that made the least amount of cash was the 3rd and it was released in the summer.
And btw this Potter movie is performing better then the previous ones.
The first Pottter movie didn't hit 200 million in it's first week.
Neither did the 2nd or the 3rd one. Goblet was the first one to hit that mark.
And in terms of weekend drop offs this one is doing better then Azkaban .

I just hate the notion that TF is performing better then Potter . Comparisons should be done with similar movies . Potter is all fairness isn't similr , at least this potter isn't/ If people wanna compare how TF fairs against other movies they should compare it with Spider-man or any other first movie of a franchise that was released in the summer

On it's 11th days, TF is $197.8 and HP is $197.99.
On it's 12th days, TF is $212.3 and HP is $207.5.

So even on the 11th day we are talking a matter of less than $177,000. Like most people have been saying, HP will have the WW but TF will have the better domestic.

Eh, a movie about a superhero with powers of a spider, a CGI Ogre, fantasy Pirates, Transforming robot aliens, and a boy wizard. If you really think about none are really that comparable except in terms of scale and box office. And that's what is being compared.

No it's not.
The book plays a large role in BO receipt since fans to tend to watch the movies more then once. And Potter movies are something that you can watch with the whole family and enjoy. Parents love to take out their kids and watch these movies. When all the kids are locked up in their rooms trying to read these books or for that matter when the parents are reading these books before they give it to their kids ( don't believe me , go to the Potter in the community forum) it has an effect.

TF in all fairness is a guys movie and i doubt it's something that where you could take your whole family watching ( grandparents included).
Sure a father will take his son but the Potter movies appeal to a greater audience then TF which is primarily focused on the teens and young males.

Heck when i watched Potter for the first time in IMAX there was an age group from kids to teens to young adults to really old adults.
TF was mostly teens ( males) , young adults ( again males). Very few kids. Al 5 times that i watched TF.

Does anyone think Transformers should be a stand alone film?...
If a sequel comes out I'd watch it but it just seems like that kind of movie. Maybe they shouldn't tamper with it and should leave it as is.

Shut up and go away. Ha!

No, just kidding. I think there is much, much more to tell and show in the Transformers franchise. Much of the personalities, stories, and different robots haven't been fleshed out so making a sequel would (should) be easy.

Besides, with the amount of $$$ Paramount is making off this film, we're getting a sequel whether you want it or not.

Really cause i would've sworn it was more about TF winning of any movie.
I'd love it TF becomes the highest grossing flick. But to use the comparisons that TF is performing better then a sequel which always tend to perform less their their previous movies isn't a valid one IMO.

People are are just going wild with their claims that TF is outperforming every other movie not realising that the first movie of any succesful franchise always tend to perform really well. It's the sequels which suffer from bigger drop offs etc.
That's why i was saying that if anyone really wants to see just how well TF performed , let them first movies of frachises. And especially those that opening in the summer such as SPiderman 1 , POTC 1 etc.

Nah , No sense at all

The own ending screams sequel . What kinda stand alone film has charactes saying like >

"Can I stay with the boy ......."

"Any surviving autobot , we are waiting "

And Starscream , scaping to space ???

Potter fans said it sucked and TF non fans said it was the best film they ever saw so....:whatever:

Whats so cool about Harry Potter? A little ***** that flys on a broom. WOW!!!!!!!!

*shrug*

Everyone has their favorites. I would have loved TF to outdo all the May movies because I was tired of the insufferable Spider-Man 3 vs. AWE posts.

455 Million $ Worldwide!!!!

In the weekend's No. 2 spot is DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures International's "Transformers" which played at 4,315 screens in 42 markets for an estimated $34 million, down just $2 million from the previous weekend (when it played in 32 territories). Its overseas gross total stands at $192 million. Worldwide, its tally is $455 million
