Bridge of Spies

Basically every movie about a war sans the two world ones just has the message of "we never should a been there in the first place."

Looking forward to this.

Still amazed that after everything Francis Gary Powers went through, he died in a helicopter accident while flying for a news station.

Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg Cold War Thriller Set for Oct. 16, 2015

DreamWorks and Disney have dated the untitled Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg Cold War spy thriller for Oct. 16, 2015.

The studios have also set Spielberg’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s book “The BFG” for July 1, 2016.

Joel and Ethan Coen came on board last month to write the script for the Cold War project, which Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger will produce with Spielberg. The Coen Brothers, who won screenwriting Oscars for “Fargo” and “No Country for Old Men,” are revising Matt Charman’s script.

The untitled project is based on the true story of James Donovan, who Hanks will portray. Donovan was the American attorney enlisted by the CIA during the Cold War to surreptitiously negotiate the 1962 release of Francis Gary Powers, the U-2 spy plane pilot who was shot down over Russia two years earlier.

Variety reported that Hanks had come on board the project in mid-April.

Spielberg is also considering directing the DreamWorks-Fox co-production “Robopocalypse” and the historical drama “Montezuma,” which Steve Zaillian is penning. But the dating announcement means he’ll direct “The BFG” following the Cold War project.

Hanks and Spielberg have worked together on three films: “Saving Private Ryan,” “Catch Me if You Can” and “The Terminal.”

The Cold War thriller is the second title to land on Oct. 16, 2015. Universal has already scheduled Guillermo del Toro’s “Crimson Peak” for that slot.

As for “The BFG,” Spielberg officially committed in late April to direct the story of a little girl who leads a big, friendly giant and the Queen of England on a journey to stop the fiercer, man-eating giants from gobbling children. DreamWorks acquired rights in 2010, and Melissa Mathison, who last teamed with Spielberg on “E.T.,” will pen the script.

Frank Marshall will produce, with Michael Siegel and John Madden exec producing. Madden was originally set to direct “The BFG” but opted to direct the sequel to “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,”now in post.

“The BFG” is the fourth title to be dated for July 1, 2016 following Fox’s “Independence Day 2,” Sony’s “Angry Birds” and Warner Bros.’ “Tarzan.”

Amy Ryan and Alan Alda Join Tom Hanks in Steven Spielberg's Next

The project first announced this past April, Tom Hanks is getting ready to re-team with director Steven Spielberg for a still-untitled film about the U-2 spy plane incident. Boasting a screenplay by Joel and Ethan Coen (from an original script by Matt Charman), the film is now expanding its cast. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Amy Ryan has signed on to play Hanks' wife and that Alan Alda, Eve Hewson and Billy Magnussen are all currently in talks for roles.

Based on the true story of James Donovan, the project follows the American attorney who was tasked with negotiating the release of pilot Gary Powers in the wake of the 1960 international incident.

Marc Platt and Kristie Macosko Krieger are attached to produce alongside Spielberg. Daniel Lupi and Adam Somner will executive produce the film, which will be co-financed by 20th Century Fox and Dreamworks. It hits theaters October 16, 2015.

Spielberg directing a Coen Brothers script.

Happy thoughts abound.

Didn't even realize this started filming. I've loved the 3 previous Spielberg/Hanks collaborations so hopefully this shouldn't be any different.

This sounds really exciting. I love a good Cold War thriller

New Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks Film Titled ‘Bridge of Spies,’ John Williams Confirmed to Score

The new Steven Spielberg film, which reunites the director with star Tom Hanks, was referred to early on as the “Untitled Cold War Thriller,” and then shot under the title St. James Place. But when released in theaters, the movie will be called Bridge of Spies — a more colorful title, to be sure, and one which has its own place in cold war history.

Additionally, John Williams has been confirmed to provide the score for the film, marking the latest collaboration in his long-running partnership with Spielberg.

The title was first confirmed by producer Marc Platt, in an interview with The Daily Pennsylvanian. He simply said “I have a film directed by Steven Spielberg starring Tom Hanks coming out called Bridge of Spies.”

And John Williams fan site JWFN.com has confirmed with the composer’s agency that he will write the score to this film, making it his 27th collaboration with Steven Spielberg.

The film’s title refers to a real bridge that links the outer reaches of former West Berlin to the city center of Potsdam, previously under the control of East Germany. It was dubbed the “bridge of spies” in the ’60s as American and Soviet intelligence organizations performed prisoner exchanges on its expanse.

Officially named the Bridge of Unity, it was eventually re-named Glienicke Bridge in the mid-’80s. The bridge has been seen in other films, and Spielberg’s production used it as a location for this movie.

The film tells the story of the first prisoner exchange on the bridge that led to its colloquial name, as it follows attempts by lawyer James Donovan (Hanks) to negotiate the release of pilot Francis Gary Powers after his plane was shot down in the Soviet Union.

Bridge of Spies was originally written by Matt Charman, with rewrites by Joel Coen and Ethan Coen. The cast also features Mark Rylance, Amy Ryan, Alan Alda and Eve Hewson. It will be released by Disney’s Touchstone banner on October 16, 2015.

I kinda dug the original title.

This movie has all the makings of an Oscar juggernaut. It's rapidly becoming one of my most awaited movies of the year.

Well the last time that Spielberg directed a spy-esque thriller, we got Munich. So yeah, that's a good sign.

Oh, and John Williams isn't scoring this anymore. Thomas Newman is.

World War I is a war where pretty much no one had a reason for being there other than elaborate interconnected ally agreements.

When was the last time Spielberg made a movie without Williams?

Also this means Newman is doing both Bridge of Spies and Spectre this year.

1985. Quincy Jones scored The Color Purple.

Trailer should be coming soon then.

That has to be one of the best posters of the past 10 years, easily.

It's a nice poster but one of the best in the past ten years?
