Captain Marvel Brie Larson is Captain Marvel!

Who has ever said Hemsworth was "miscast?" Seriously has that ever been a thing?

Hemms was leaps and bounds behind RDJ and Evans up until Ragnarok, so yeah his Thor has never been loved nearly to that extent early on.

Yvonne would have been perfect. Would have been nice symmetry since she was on the show Chuck with Zachary Levi, who is now playing Shazam.

I think she and Emily Blunt were both pregnant at the time, thus unavailable. They're both 36 and you need someone young enough to carry the franchise for 10-12 years. ScarJo was 24 when she began playing Black Widow.

Yeah, I hope Boden & Fleck don't come back for the sequel, they brought nothing to the movie. Captain Marvel needs her own Waititi (and so does Ant-Man, for that matter).

Actually I really wouldn't mind a Captain Marvel movie directed by Waititi.

No no no. Waitit's style should not be used for Captain Marvel.

I'd rather get someone like Christopher McQuarrie.

I've never seen anyone say he was miscast though just the films weren't all they could be. Let's not rewrite history to support Brie.

I'm not rewriting anything. Plenty of people thought he had limited emotional range on here and said they could have done better for Thor. I have frequented the MCU boards since they existed, amigo. I know because I was there.

I wasn't talking about you but the op that said he was said to be "miscast."
I was around too but you're not understanding people have said he was good in Avengers it's just the solo films that were criticized. Myself I think Ragnorok was overrated and didn't change much in my mind about his solos but to each their own.

Really Hemms didn't catch fire as Thor on here until Ragnarok. People largely said Hemms wasn't doing much with the role, and that Thor was not being written in an interesting way mostly. Even in The Avengers, largely the breakout characters were Hulk and Iron Man predominately. Hemms was overshadowed in both Thor and TDW by Loki (beloved since day 1) and in The Avengers no one praised Hemms since Thor got the lowest screen time outside of Hawkeye.

In the case of Evans from The Avengers, everyone liked his performances but largely Cap's characterization didn't catch fire on here until TWS. I say that as someone who has been on board the Cap wagon since day 1.

So again, I'm not rewriting anything. This was the perception.

You're not making any sense... all I said was no one said he was "miscast" just that he was overshadowed by others. I never said you were rewriting history I was talking about Abudefduf.

I would say the perception he lacked the acting ability/the ability to make an impression for/in the role would indicate "miscast"

Ah yes, because the male characters in Marvel movies are the essence of realism.

I remember because I disagreed and would get in debates over it while supporting Hemsworth.

No I agree with myself, based on Ragnarok Waititi is a better fit for this character than McQuarrie. I know McQuarrie is popular choice to direct a Superman movie, but Captain Marvel is nothing like Superman.

I'm not rewriting history... I'm 100% sure that I was calling Hemsworth "miscast" before Ragnarok. And many others were calling him boring in the role... it wasn't uncommon to encounter people saying that Loki was the real star of the Thor movies. Something that no one would say about Ragnarok.

So there, no history was rewritten in any of my posts.

Chris Hemsworth was miscast and/or boring as Thor, until he wasn't. Larson is a great actress and she's perfect for this role, under the right director her Carol could become iconic.

Nobody knew who Hemsworth, so it's different. The second they saw him in trailers it changed everything.

Just re-watched that first trailer. Forgot how awesome most of it was.

What trailer? Again, not many people were in love with Hemsworth's Thor before Ragnarok.

Also, are we just ignoring that Brie Larson's performance is being praised by most critics? And that the movie has been out for only two days, so there's no way of knowing if the general audience likes her in the role?

Seriously, why are we even having this discussion.

Not many people? LOL

You're crazy. The detractors didn't like the directing/script from T:TDW, they never had problems with Hemsworth after he was introduced in the original film. But again, he had no previous body of work to research so that's why he can't be compared to Larson.

Is it me or this guy is a complete moron with a brain smaller than his eyeballs? What the heck is he even trying to say.

Waititi literally said that one of his main goals while making Ragnarok was to finally make Thor the best character of the movie. That's how bad things were back then for the seductive God of Thunder.

I don’t even know… Basically how I pitched it was like, he just needs to be the most interesting character. [...] Yeah, if you’re going to call the movie Thor, Thor has to be the best character.
So if people had issues with Thor before Ragnarok it wasn't Hemsworth's fault, but if people have issues with Captain Marvel it's Larson's fault? I get that she's a much more experienced actor than Hemsworth was when he was cast as Thor, but she wouldn't exactly be the first good actor to give a middling performance because of bad directing.

And again, that's ignoring the fact that many critics are actually saying she's one of the best things about the movie (though personally she didn't impress me).

You just reinforced my point that you're not comparing apples-to-apples when you said that people complained about Thor. My point was they were complaining before the original movie was made because they were not familiar with the actor playing him. Once the trailers hit, everyone was fine and while Ragnarok was a pseudo-rebirth - there wasn't an issue with him fitting who the character was during any point in time. It was 100% the writing in T:TDW.

And again, that's ignoring the fact that many critics are actually saying she's one of the best things about the movie (though personally she didn't impress me).

If there's one thing I don't trust all that much anymore are critics (save a handful) ESPECIALLY when it comes to this genre. I'll reserve full judgement of Larson for when I see the film.
