The Marvels Brie Larson IS Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel

Ha, love seeing her workouts. :D

I was very surprised she was interested in those films but should be interesting to see what kind of role she gets to play.

I have to say, I am very disappointed in Marvel/Disney making Larson look absolutely horrific in the role. I mean.. look at her in her most recent appearances:

It reminds me of the early days of Thor, pre-Dark World, where the best way to describe him would be 'cheap':

Compared to Thor, post-Avengers:

What's wild here is that they pretty much nailed it out of the gate in the opening of Endgame:

The visual inconsistency for her is mindboggling, Larson is naturally so beautiful. You'd think they'd leave her natural hair alone and give her suit an upgrade with some better textures. Right now, it gives off a slight Fox X-Men leather suit vibes. Excited & very curious to see what is in store for her in The Marvels.

Imo her suit looked good in every appearance
but yeah, the Endgame Act III and Shang Chi hair looked really bad, and the "Quantum Encounters" look is very farah fawcett/charlie's angels.

tbh she looked more healthy during the first movie. Hope she’s alright

For the love of One Above All, give her solo film costume back!

The new one looks good, though.

I like that the new costume isn't so busy and full of usless bits and bobs, feels more practical
reserving judgement til we see the legs tho

And she really does look very thin now, she's like Kamala as Carol from Ms Marvel's first appearance lol

It has been YEARS since I have watched an F&F film in a theater.
For Brie, I Will Return, GLADLY!

I like her costumes in this.

There's a scene where she wears a Captain Marvel dress which would have been nice as an action scene costume because it doesn't look like a traditional superhero costume. And she also sings for like 20 seconds.

My main gripe about though is the actress, based from this film, isn't very emotive, she looked stoic, so the dramatic moments kinda fell flat when she was on screen.

She is so nice and talented, we failed protecting her far better from the Incels.
I still think the movie title was a bad choice and it was released at the time, that there were so much Marvel content and the people across the globe just didn't care to watch it.

And of course those who are anti-Brie, it was just fuel to their fire when this film flopped.

In hindsight, this should have been fast tracked for a 2021/22 release and they should have it released first before the 1 and done Black Widow and Eternals. As a 3quel could have been a no brainer, since they were already in Cm movie #2. If it also kept the early 2023 release, the box office numbers could have been better but of course we know why it was moved to November.

IMHO The Marvels has serious pacing and story issues. The whole Multiverse connection was weak and was also spoiled by the trailers. Secret Invasion connections were also weak and poorly constructed. The villain was weak. Supreme Intelligence is on the screen for like half a second and basically killed off-screen. We also should've actually seen the Supreme Intelligence in the first movie in the final act to expose its true form.

A more satisfying final act for The Marvels is Carol and her team all making a final push at Supreme Intelligence, and they are faced with the choice of if they should execute it or not, similar to Operation Galactic Storm. Ultimately, though one of the Kree rebels, maybe even Mar-vell who is revealed to be alive and leading a resistance on Hala, decides to kill it. The Kree at last take their destiny into their own hands and make a hard choice to lead themselves instead of relying on a totalitarian super-computer. Similar to the ending of the Kree War in Avengers: EMH.

Secret Invasion also makes no sense. If the Skrulls had a bountiful and safe new colony before this movie, why didn't all the Skrulls go there? And why did they all go back to Earth? Looks like the Skrull colony was doing well and thriving before Dar-Benn sacked it. And yet the Skrulls blame Fury and Captain Marvel for disappearing. When did they disappear? Carol went to Hala, destroyed Supreme Intelligence, and set up a new colony for the Skrulls. So she went to bat for the refugees.

It seems like Secret Invasion if you do it at all, should've been done AFTER The Marvels. Because then the Skrulls have motivation for resenting the humans, Fury, and Captain Marvel. They would be motivated to blame Carol for the destruction of their colony and the loss of their kin and to also make Earth their new home.

The Marvels should have come out earlier, and should have been called Captain Marvel: Secret Invasion, with the entire premise of The Marvels being scrapped and the three leads should have been the leads of the Secret Invasion storyline along with Nick Fury, instead of Emilia Clarke's character (maybe Emilia plays a female Super Skrull that fights the three leads).

The multiverse aspect of TheMarvels was least of its problems. The lead villains wanting to destroy 3 planets that Carol used to live had no weight. Especially when those 2 out of the 3 were destroyed... I feel like in other Marvel movies, that would have been a bigger deal but no, it didn't seem like a giant loss to Carol. And how Carol didn't solve the dying sun much earlier was just.... why Carol didn't try that earlier yet in the climax, she made it look so easy and quick.

And the movie could have been 30 minutes longer.

Should have been Carol and the other heroes vs. the Kree and Kree Supreme Intelligence. There's in-fighting among the Kree, and the Kree rebels ultimately decide to execute Supreme Intelligence and stand up for themselves. Take elements from Operation Galactic Storm and the Kree War. So while the heroes are debating if they should execute the Kree Supreme Intelligence, Mar-Vell simply does it anyway. Basically make it so executing Supreme Intelligence could seriously cripple the empire and set its people back hundreds of years, so it's very risky. Instead Mar-Vell does it.

Always struck by this scene of Mar-Vell taking matters into his own hands and the Supreme Intelligence glitching out as it died.

The MCU films had no idea how to utilize the Supreme Intelligence.

I'm more disappointed that this ended up as a two/done like Wonder Woman. A trilogy was such a no brainer in 2019.

Its just too bad. Even with Brave New World and Thunderbolts, they didn't get low numbers the way The Marvels did. Its like people suddenly lost interest in Marvel. Then they all showed up for Deadpool & Wolverine in less than a year.
