The Dark Knight Call Sheet info for this week

Now I'm confused, 160 scenes in Begins compared with 330 in TDK? That's massive

Sure, but WB isn't Fox. There's a huge difference there.

True...but never underestimate the value of $$$. That's the bottomline and that's ultimately what studios care about.

A difference between a 2 hour and a half movie and a three hour movie could be an extra 2 showings a day PER screen.

Two-face is in this?! That sucks BIG time. I really don't want a Spider-man 3 happening here.
It won't.

There's no way the WB is going to let this movie be 3 hours in length. They want as many showings as possible.
I think WB would allow a 3 hour film. Obviously, if they've read the script (and they have), they know they're approving a long film, and Nolan's been given their blessing on that count.

Don't get WB confused with FOX. WB isn't as tyrannical. WB is a studio who actually allows for a lot of freedom. Look at how much freedom that newcomer Snyder is being given with WATCHMEN... It seems fitting that Nolan would get at least as much, if not more freedom, being more of a proven director.

They're gonna make Nolan edit out a bunch of scenes and I'm really hoping it's not Two-face's if he has a huge presence in this one.
It's more like a THE LONG HALLOWEEN level of presence. Two-Face isn't in that story a huge deal, but he sure makes an impact.

Why worry about time for characters? The only characters that need to be handled carefully are Bruce and Harvey, to a much lesser extent The Joker. Everyone else adds color

I still don't see how the Hong Kong scenes (along with the accountant) are that important. I mean, there's so much going on already.

It won't.

Maybe Nolan will make the film three hours. We would all leap for joy! Doubtful that he'll take that risk.

I have to admit if the script is longer than BB i am worried. I would love to see a 3 hour batman film from Nolan but I know WB wouldn't. Batman Begins would have benefited greatly for another 20-30 minutes to keep the pace steady. As much as I love the film it did feel a bit rushed.

I want long character moments where the audience just observes their body language, where alfred and wayne share a quite moment after going through hell with the joker (no gay response please). I just don't want to be overwelmed by the everything that they leave us with no time to relate to anyone.

We really don't know much outside of the Dent/Bruce/Rachel/Joker mix. For all we know, Lau could play an important part and end up stringing it all together.

Agreed, the quieter moments are exactly what's needed, instead of trying to tell us how we should think with overbearing music and obvious dialogue. With an extra 20 mins we may not have been lumbered with the train sequence

I think Dent wants him back to testify in his Maroni prosecution, looks like Bruce goes to HK. Doesn't sound like a long scene

Okay, wait... I've made a huge error. BEGINS wasn't 160/260 scenes (it was a while ago when I'd counted, and the number became fuzzy). BEGINS was more like 320 scenes (a lot of scenes for such a short movie, no?).

So I guess THE DARK KNIGHT may only be slightly longer, then. Instead of 140 mins, we might be looking at 155 minutes or something like that.

Damn. Well at least we don't have an hour of exposition to get out of the way this time

Wooo, this does sound like an epic!

I'd worry about the number of characters, but Nolan did BB well. I was confused over the number of characters The Godfather had, but about half an hour in, I got them all pinned down.

Well sure. And the average scene length in THE DARK KNIGHT may be longer than the average BEGINS scene length, so it could be longer than my estimate and we'll still get a 2 hr, 45 min film. But I don't know.

I don't know what happened with my original estimate of BEGINS' scene count to get it so wrong. I must have been high that day.

well we don't really know the story, so they could be extremely important.

Sure. But WB has also allowed their Harry Potter films to get away with some pretty long running times.

At any rate, I've retracted my three hour estimate due to faulty numbers, and so the film may very well be a simple 2:35, for all I know. It's still largely guesswork, hugely dependent on scene length throughout. With its scene numbers, THE DARK KNIGHT could easily be anywhere from 2hrs 20min to the full 3hrs, depending on how long the average scene is. :::shrugs:::

Why not? I'm sure that they'd be very happy, merry people after being victorious with the Joker?

gay means happy. So if there happy after being victorious with the Joker then there gay. Which is rather gay. gay gay gay gay gay gay gay.

As for length of the film Id put it at or around 150 minutes. I think that is a solid length for an epic.

Do you have a special source AgentSands77 or are you just really good at putting together all the info we get?

Snap!

Look two posts above!

How many people on this board have ever worked on a set, been involved in production and development, done script supervision, or anything like that?

Oh sorry, I got the numbers wrong. BEGINS was about 160 scenes. THE PRESTIGE was 220 or something like that. Jack Bauer did a better estimate.

You realize that most productions just number every single slug-line in a script as a scene? Any change of location. So, those numbers for BB have to be hire I think...
