can someone refresh my memory?

As much as I love Smallville I don't see another network having aired this show from it's first pilot. I think all these other networks would have laughed at the idea. The WB was a good network becuase, well there's the teenage market still watching Dawson's Creek who you could latch onto with the lana crap & because well WB release & own the Superman name. A network like NBC or CBS or whatever network you guys have over in america wouldn't have taken it seriously I don't think. maybe back in the L&C days they might have because thing's were different then but times are different now. Were in a much more serious, cynical world, where every show is a cop show or a medical show or both. maybe I'm wrong I dunno.

That is true. There are a lot of procedural shows on American television at the moment.

-Law and Order
-NCIS
-BONES
-House M.D.
-Lincoln Heights (elements of a police procedural)

I think Smallville could have survived on ABC Family. They show a lot of teen/teen drama/young adult drama oriented content, such as Greek, Secret Life of the American Teenager etc. Perhaps Teen Nick or Noggin. But I do agree that it may not have last as long once they started to abandon the heavy romance element between Lana and Clark.

yea we really dont know how the show would have been if it did land on another network besides the wb. Sure if it stayed around 8-12million viewer mark which probably would have been possible back when the show started ten yrs ago it could probably still be around today like it was with wb/dc. Plus we dont know how the network would have demanded the show to be. Like we know if u watched any of the behind the scenes stuff. the writers have what they want to do in episodes, then the call from the network on what they want, and the also from dc comics on what they want. So maybe on another network the show wouldnt have turned into such a mess with the drama this drama that with lana and clark from the early years.

I thought that another network was in a bidding war for the series after the Pilot had been shown around, but the studio went with the WB at the time because the show would make them more money since it's produced by a unit of Warner Brothers and the WB was owned by Warner Brothers.

We will have to see how Human Target does on Fox. That is a DC Comic property that is airing on a non-Warner Bros. network. So if it is successful (which at this point, I don't think it has been) then we will be able to at least make a more educated guess about how things may have gone down for Smallville, had it been on another network. But honestly, I am not too concerned with Nielsen ratings. The only thing that has happened since Smallville's ratings have lowered, is that the special effects budget has been cut. They have been using a lot more off screen shots to establish the use of super powers (such as a sparking fence followed by a pan in of Clark, to signify that he just used heat vision). But if they can keep the show going with the current fanbase, that is all I am really concerned for.

It was FOX:

Gough and Millar wanted to strip Superman down to his "bare essence", and explore the reasons behind Clark Kent becoming Superman.[7] They felt the fact they were not comic book fans played into their favor; not being familiar with the universe would allow them an unbiased approach to the series. However, this did not keep them from learning about the characters, as they both did research on the comics and picked and rearranged what they liked.[7] They returned and pitched their idea to both The WB and FOX on the same day.[61] A bidding war ensued between FOX and The WB; the latter won out with a commitment of thirteen episodes to start

?ion alot of shows are produced by one studio and aired on different networks all the time. Take for example alot of shows are produced by sony and they are aired over all networks, or wb tv they produced many many shows that have aired on abc/nbc/cbs and all that.

Plus also 10yrs ago the tv world was alot different then it is today. like take for example when the show mash was airing in the 70s/80s it was scoring like 30million viewers all the time. Compared to shows today are lucky to get like 12million viewers and all that.
