Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Can Spider-Woman join the cast now that Marvel can use Spider-Man characters?

Honestly, Jessica Drew would be a great fit for AOS. She has the connections to SHIELD, particularly Mockingbird and Nick Fury. She can also appear in Sony's Spider-Man spin-offs, she can appear on the Jessica Jones TV show and the Captain Marvel films.

But most importantly, she fits Agents of SHIELD like a GLOVE. That and I trust Marvel's casting decisions more than Sony's and I'd like to see Marvel Studios beat them to the punch, then hand her off to Sony.

I thought Spider-Woman was always fair game for Marvel. She's not really packaged with the rights to Spider-Man, is she?

Spider-Woman has nothing to do with Spider-Man, Marvel has always maintained her rights.

Yeah, Spider-Woman is not a Spider-Man character so there's nothing stopping her from appearing.

G'day,

But we don't know the terms of the original contract Marvel signed with Sony. They may very well have rights to the name Spider_Woman. However I don't think that really matters know . But I would be surprised if Jessica Drew pops up in AOS. They usually introduce their top tier characters in the movies not TV show.

So Mockingbird/Graviton/Absorbing Man/Deathlok are lower tier than Spider Woman? I can see them introducing her in AoS especially with all the hype of Marvel's Spider-Man. But do they change her origin and have her as an Inhuman?

No, why would they do that? Spider-Woman is more of a Mount Wundgor character. In a way, she's tied to Quick Silver and Scarlet Witch seeing as High Evolutionary raised the 3 of them in the comics. It could be she's one of Strucker's OTHER surviving experiments.

I would say so. Jessica Drew has had several solo series. I don't recall Mockingbird ever having one.

I can't see why. What's wrong with her current origin story?

Probably, but I doubt that they will. Not for a long time anyways.

Her origins have usually been tied to HYDRA. You know, that organization that they've been pushing as a really serious threat in the MCU. The groundwork has already been laid for her introduction. Marvel just has to pull the proverbial trigger.

I'm a little sad that there hasn't even been mentions or references to her especially with Jessica Jones getting her own series.

G'day,

Yes.

Sony wanted to include her in a female team-up film. It's safe to say that the character sharing agreement makes this possible.

So she starts out connected to Hydra, then joins SHIELD. How is this not likely now?

Now it's just a matter of getting Fox to agree to a character sharing agreement and then merging universes with all the baggage of whether Tim Blake Nelson plays Leader or Mole Man and which actor remains as Quicksilver.

I don't see why not. They already gave her a new MCU friendly version of her costume in the books

G'day,

I actually think we will be seeing Jessica Drew in the next few years. In fact her new costume is a movie costume. I too used to think she would be introduced via AOS. It would be easy enough to do as you say, but I'm now doubtful. Marvel's top female characters are : Black Widow, She-Hulk, Captain Marvel and Spider-Woman. That's what I meant by a top tier character. They tend to be introduced in movies.

While I think Jessica Drew was always fair game, I question whether they would have ever been able to get away with having Spider-Woman in the MCU before. I would think it'd be similar to the reason why Marvel could never make a live-action X-Men TV show in spite of owning the rights (something about audience confusion or some nonsense like that). That's purely speculation though. I just think if Marvel could have gotten away with having Spider-Woman out there, they would have. I'm sure they would have killed to have a wall-crawler out there by now and have at least some substitute for Spidey.

Now though? I absolutely expect her to be introduced at some point. I just don't think it'll be in AoS. I think she'll be part of that hypothetical Phase 4 that Spider-Man will probably play a huge part of. She would also be a great candidate for her own show. And if that's the case, the perhaps she could get her start on AoS. But as a regular as part of an ensemble? Probably not.

I think they kept Spider-Woman on lock for the exact opposite reason. She might be viewed as a sidekick or even ripoff character of Spider-Man (yes comic fans know she has nothing to do with him but most audience members are not comic book fans) and even worse, she could have been viewed as a spin-off of the lackluster Amazing Spider-Man franchise, which could have boded ill.

Remember when the Superman franchise was in a tailspin after III and so they tried the ill-fated Supergirl spin off since none of the original actors wanted any part of it anymore? The wrong move could give off the vibe that that's what was being attempted with Spider-Woman.

Jessica Drew would be a good cameo in a few episodes of AOS. I don't think you'd need to give her a costume just yet, something similar to Mockingbird would work well. Just give her a little red/yellow in her generic suit and it's enough for now. Then once Spidey gets established in the MCU she can suit up either with him or in his universe with other heroes.

I feel like outside of the Fox-owned properties, Spider-Woman is probably Marvel's #2 marquee female hero behind Captain Marvel, which might make her a little too big for this show. I expect to see her in the movies sometime soon (Phase 3 or 4).

More like right behind She-Hulk and we've yet to see her

I would bet money we'll see Spider-Woman before She-Hulk.

Well I think Felicia Hardy's the most likely to see first, but she's a supporting player, not a marquee character. Has she ever even had her own title? The other two have had several.

GREAT idea.

I mean, her origins have pretty much always been tied to being captured by HYDRA and experimented on or turned into a weapon one way or another, so it makes sense.
