It's been 20 years and there's still so many people who think that Evil Dead 2 is actually a remake of the original. Sad, huh? :csad:

Well, if this doesn't prove that Evil Dead 2 is a sequel then I don't know what we can do to convince those individuals who still think that its a remake

of course it's a sequel. if you start it from the right point, it's actually the most direct sequel i've ever seen

It is a sequel...easy to figure that out for anyone who has seen the first movie.

Yeah, it's a sequal. I never understood the claim that it's a remake.

Same here, dude, and there's still plenty of people who believe its a remake. If you wait long enough someone is gonna post something saying its a remake.

Doesn't make sense to me.

What doesn't make sense? Why people think its a remake? Well, people claim its a remake because the film starts with Ash and his g/f going to the cabin. In the first one its like 5 people or something. Also, the beginning of the movie doesn't feel like a recap since there's no narration or montage.

But, I think its always been obvious its a sequel for two reasons.

1) The title tells you.
2) Ash arrives at the cabin, reads the book, releases the deadites, and kills his possessed g/f in like 5 minutes. That always felt like a quick recap to me.

No, I understand why people think it's a remake. It doesn't make sense to me when you present evidence that it's a sequal to the people who think it's a remake, but they continue to believe it is.

One thing I know we all can agree on

Evil Dead 2 is the best movie ever (or up there)

and Sam Raimi is flawlessly awesome

It is totally a remake. In the first movie the Scott character was basically the Ash that we know now,he was a bad ass,and the Ash character was a whimp who didn't have a smart a** wit.

So in Evil Dead 2 Raimi changed it by getting rid of the Scott character, and making Ash into that bad a** character with a smart a** wit right when the movie starts.

Can we finally agree that Evil Dead 2 is a remake.

Dude, Scott wasn't like Ash at all. He was just an ******* trying to save his own skin. Ash, at least, tried to help the others.

no.

Ash was a p---y at the beginning of Evil Dead but by the end he became the Ash we all know and love. That was what made Evil Dead so brilliant. Everyone thought Ash would be the first to die instead he became the hero of the best horror-comedy trilogy.

It's a different movie dude. Even Sam Raimi himself says it is.

^When Scott was being attacked in the cabin,Ash was just sitting on the couch, how is that helping?

And they complety changed the Ash character in Evil Dead 2,because Ash is a bad a** right when that movie starts, instead of like the first movie where Ash went through all that stuff that made him become like that.

Dude... that would make Evil Dead 2 a sequel since he kept the character development.

To clear up any confusion; the first ten minutes of Evil Dead 2 recap Evil Dead 1. However, Raimi could not get the rights to show footage from the first movie, so they had to remake those parts.

The first ten minutes of Evil Dead 2 = Remade Evil Dead 1 out of necessity. (why bother recapping the deathes of everyone from the first film?)

The rest of the movie = Takes off at the exact point Evil Dead 1 ends.

Yes! Exactly.

Looking back at it I'm sure Raimi regrets not making a montage hence why we got one in Army of Darkness.

REMAKE!!!! Evil dead 2 is just Evil Dead with a bigger budget, and O, Army of Darkness Sux'd balls....

hahaha, I was one of those who believed ED2 was a remake as someone/read it was just Evil dead with a bigger budget. Its been years since I've seen it,and honestly don't really care to see it again. It was decent movie, AoD was a corny attempt at comedy, had some decent one liners, but thats it.
Far as Title of forum, why agree theres no fun in that :)

Threadjack, but a similiar argument would be about if The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly is actually a sequel, prequel, or totally unrelated to the previous two.
