Can you go to the movies by yourself?

Movies I have seen alone....

Lost in Space
Tomorrow Never Dies
The Truman Show x 2
The World is Not Enough
X-Men
Spider-Man
Pirates of the Carribean
V for Vendetta

I only go alone if I'm seeing a film more than once otherwise, I'll always have atleast 1 person to keep me company.

I go all the time alone to the movies. When I go to the movies I go there to watch the movie, not to socialize. Besides it's so much better going alone to the movies; no worries that some of your friends left their cell on (Actually only one of my friends does that. No matter how many times we mention about it to him he alway leaves it on. It doesn't ring but it's annoying that he checks the clock from it.) or something like that.

I usually like to watch movies alone anyway. You can concentrate to the movie without any distractions.

But if I'm going to see something like Spider-Man 3 or Pirates 3 there's bunch of people with me, like it or not. But then again smaller films like The Prestige or Children of Men I went alone. It's even better if the theater is almost empty.

I've seen 3 movies by myself. Batman Begins (2nd viewing), King Kong and Hollywoodland.

Sometimes I go to the movies by myself. Sometimes by choice, and sometimes not by choice. Today I'm probably going to see a midnight showing of TMNT by myself. My friends aren't really in a rush to see it. Doesn't really bug me.

Most of the time i want to go and see a film i really like, i'll go on my own, i don't need the distractions of company, i don't want to miss any tiny detail or lose any sense of enjoyment at the end...

I always go to the movies by myself.

Yeah, I went by myself to see X-2. My partner threw a hissy fit and said he didn't want to go at the last minute, so I went on my own

i have to get a lift to and from the theater

regularly? nooooo.....no way, you'd feel like a numpty. I couldn't do it.
Although that said- i have done it once, and that was for Matrix Revolutions.

Id seen Reloaded with a few people..and after that, I was pretty much the only person who "wanted" to see how it ended- so I saw it myself on a day off in the afternoon.

It wasn't THAT bad (the experience- not the movie....which was) but I wouldn't be in a rush to do it again- youre right there is definatlely a stigma- unfounded maybe, but I dont think that its that important.

If theres a movie that I want to see that no one I know does, I just tend to wait for the dvd really- fortunately most of the movies I want to see, other people I know do to.

My latest dilemma is TMNT- I want to see that movie...but .....well I'm in my early 20'sand I dont want to readily admit it :)

I usually go alone only when it's a movie no one I know wants to see, or something I want to see again. Most of my friends/family act like it's some kind of freak-ass thing to see a movie more than once in a theater. I prefer to go with friends though, so I can share the reactions and talk about it afterwards. Plus I like to wait until they buy popcorn so I can save monies. :)

I usually go alone. I like to watch something in peace and quiet so I not only go alone, I go during the week to the 11am show.

I've gone to the movies alone plenty, I like ti better that way sometimes

I pretty much go by myself. Not married,no girlfriend, and really no friends that are on my schedule of work. Ppl I work with are just 'work associates',not much more..
At first I was thinking the topic was about being allowed in for certain movies..I go to the movies pretty often, but I guess it never donged on me,when did they start carding ppl 25 and under?? Pretty lame crap if ya ask me. Used to be 17 or 18 and under needed guardians or something. I havent been carded yet(though Im way past 25)..sorry just thought about that as I was writing. Maybe its just in my area or that particular theatre,as this theatre is onlyone I go to..

All the time. I prefer it mostly though it depends on the film.

I go on mu own if I have no one to go with, but that doesn't happen a lot as most of the time people want to see the film as well. But I don't see what's the big deal with people going on there own, I see it when I go to the cinema all the time, there is at least one person on there own.

I don't mind going to the theater alone. I used to see a lot of movies with my high school friends, but while we kept in touch for a while a couple years after college we drifted apart. I never got into the habit of seeing movies with friends from college, which is who I usually hang out with now. So now, if there's a movie I really want to see, I'll just go after work or to a matinee during the weekend, which is probably what I'll be doing this weekend for TMNT.

i have to get a lift to and from the theater
I gotta take the bus. and it takes about a hour to get there. So i gotta leave extra early when i'm seeing a movie. say its at 12:30pm i gotta leave at 11am.

I like to go to the movies with my wife and then afterwards we talk about the movie. :)

I love going to a movie alone but i always have hated when i do go to a Rated- R movie and i cant buy 2 tickets only 1, its annoying because im 18 and i can go die for my country but god forbid i buy two tickets for a date!

What do you mean you can't buy 2 tickets to a R rated movue. why?

This is becoming more the norm lately.
People would rather wait for the DVD or get a bootleg copy. :down
Yeah i know what you mean.

But then again most people i know aren't into movies as much as i am.

But your right the Bootleg thing is pretty out of control. I remember when i was in NY in June 05. and i saw this guy selling bootleg dvd's on the sidewalk with a blanet under them.

I took my friend to see 300 today who had no idea what it was about, he assumed it was just another troy film and was really not looking forward to seeing it, I assured him he will enjoy it. When we walked out of the film he had a massive smile on his face and said genuinely, 'that was possibly the best film I had ever seen' that is why I go to the cinema with a friend

i actually prefer going to the movies alone. the only time i like seeing a movie with someone else is if i know they're as interested in film as i am. and theres only one person in my life that i know like that, and she's now living a few thousand miles away.

although, i dont mind seeing comedies with other people. the thing is, hardly are there ever any comedies worth seeing now a days.

I go by myself, mostly because my girlfriend whose not into movies and doesn't know jack $hit of English.
