The Dark Knight Capes and Cowls - New Batsuit Discussion Thread

Some still shots in Begins looked off, as well. But they had a ton of people working on this suit. If it didn't work IN THE FILM, and in motion, I'm sure they'd have fixed it.

I don't like the neck in the stills I have seen either. I'm with you on the interrogation room shots, which look really weak. But lots of eyes have been on this for a long time, and they have a good grasp of the character. So I have to believe this will work, until I can see it does not. So far, the glimpses of Batman in motion from the trailers look OK.

In the next film, I'd be perfectly happy if he pulls a dark grey jersey with a black bat shape over all this stuff he wears. Special made fabric of some sort, woven Kevlar or something.

BTW, did anyone see the guy flying around with that jet-powered wing the other day? Wow. Lucious Fox needs to jump on THAT and give it to Wayne in the next film.

Check out the video.

Luscious Fox?

here's a side by side comparison, i think the narrower mouth opening and lack of a huge neck bring out the fact that bats has a beaky nose. i'm sure they're the same size on both cowls.

To be fair, the lighting in the interrogation room creates a shadow under the nose, so it looks bigger than it is. But yeah, this looks terrible compared to the Begins cowl. He better be doing some amazing head turning action to justify that neck. Plus it seems like they rounded the cowl's jaw instead of leaving it squared. Why???

I'm not sure why, maybe they did some fine adjustments or something, but Batman's cowl looked flawless in the last scene in Begins with Gordon on the rooftop. To think that will not be looking like that in TDK frustrates me greatly. I'm concerned that everything in TDK will be perfect, except for Batman's weak new cowl. :csad:

There's a reshoot shot of Logan in X2 when he sees the wolf at alkali lake, and he's clearly wearing a bad wig. It ruins the scene everytime I see it. I'm afraid this is how it's going to be with Batman's cowl/neck in TDK.

I really don't think the cowl is going to break the movie, or even the scenes where it is shown alot. Wally is the man. I know he is not going to shoot the cowl in bad light/bad angles.

From those 3 side by side pictures, i like the thicker neck look.

Darkened what parts? The cowl which it seems they have...the gauntlets were actually darker on the BB suit, but the gloves could have been darker. Now it appears to be the inverse the gloves are dark and the gauntlets aren't. The symbol has been all but eliminated hasn't it, and that could have been made darker to stand out. Also the boots seem to have been darker already on the BB suit. I would actually have prefered if the entire suit was darker for TDK rather than some of the grey/darker grey/black elements.

The cowl still isn't as dark as the cape. I don't care how they do it, but the two pieces should flow into each other. Other than that, just darken the gloves and the emblem and make the belt black too.

I agree on all parts. I just really like the gold belt for some reason.

I refuse to believe they couldn't come up with a solution to turning his head without eliminating the wide, not to mention more intimidating, neck. And I don't buy into this thinner (and it seems capeless at times) batman. He's f*ing Batman. With the exception of the gloves (too plain and teh puffy) and the neck clasps, the BB suit was awesome.

This poster was/is so awesome, and so misleading. BUT, I know they could have pulled this off. After all, they only have millions of dollars.

Im not sure why everyone is so upset. It only ONE shot of cowl, and the lighting seems to be bad here, big deal. Ive seen other shots where the cowl and entire suit for that matter look excellent. So far this is only the second bad shot Ive seen of the cowl.

Everyone needs to relax just a little bit :cwink:

Yes it did.

But now the Begins suit looks so dated compared to this one. It doesnt mean that this one is good, just more modern. Could have been a lot better.

The nose on the Begins cowl was better because not only was it shorter (the one in TDK is a bit longer and along with the cowl covers a bit of his upper lip to give bale a better jaw) but also because the facial expression of the cowl (angry cheeks and all) combined nicely with it. In TDK there are no angry cheeks and the nose just stands out from the rest of his face as if it was a brick on his face.

In any case, i want to see it in the movie, because i was just as mad at the BB suit before i saw it in the movie. And then i loved it!

But you gotta give it to the guys that did Ironman. The Mark III was awesome. Hope they dont get carried away with selling toys.

I'm sorry, but they screwed up the cape and the cowl. Two of the most important aspects of the batsuit.

That interrogation room shot looks absolutely horrendous.

Agreed. I already thought the Begins cowl looked terrible and I thought it couldn't get worse.....who knew. :o

I think Sandouras is right, widen the mouth back out, raise the nose up and thicken the neck by 2 or 3% and it would look sweet.

Yeah, the lightning does have some issues...you can still see the suit.

For me I think this shot in the middle is just a bad clip, the batsuits have always looked better being filmed from off to the side in low lighting rather than face to face with the camera in a bright room no matter which design it was.

If you watch the behind the scenes footage in the behind the scenes clip on the today show http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3-YhLEhGIM , you see with the proper lighting and the right angle, this suit looks pretty badass imo, and in some cases you don't notice the reduced neck lining. If the suit looks like it does in these behind the scenes clip than I'll be pretty satisfied.

I have to admit it looks bad in this shot. Weird how it looks awesome in some shots but lame in others. The should have just widened the neck a bit so it wouldn't make him look so puny.
Yeah if they made the neck a little bit thicker, then the suit would look alot better

I think the Burton films had the best cowls, asthetically, of all. They also best represented the image of the comic. In Begins and especially TDK, they try to give the cowl that rounded look. So it ends up looking like an egghead perched atop a freakishly thick neck, or a disproportionately thin neck.

What I think they fail to capture is the squareness of the cowl. Look at this classic silhouette:

Here's the Burton cowl,

If we could only get that, but with a moveable neck.

Agreed. but thats the wrong pic to use. This, is the best cowl to ever see the big screen.

Yes! Perfect shot.

Also, on a new suit, I'd like to see the cape actually come together around the neck, rather than just being draped over like it is in BB and TDK, so he can actually wrap it around himself without looking hideously awkward.
