The Dark Knight Capes and Cowls - New Batsuit Discussion Thread

We've seen pictures of it in the context of the film, and it still looks off.

But the film as a whole is meant to be seen in motion, you aren't suppose to freeze it or go frame by frame picking it apart, if that was the intention, there could be nitpicking about everything! All the motion clips from the film that we've seen look really good imo. And in the end, that's what counts and it's what the filmmakers wish to convey.

Polarized views of the suit are expected. I'd be very surprised if they created a suit that no one had complaints about.

And when you're in the Theater come July, sitting in a pool of your own excremented body fluids, you aren't going to be worrying about the damn legs.

Why, every time we see a new photo of the TDK Batsuit, does Guard go "What horrendously busy legs" (or something along those lines)?

This too boggles the mind.

Not really. The legs, for some strange reason, continually look horrendously busy.

How does Bale "standing there" equate a "great shot"?

It seems like with most of the more controversial things in TDK, the reactions are mostly either "Eh, I can live with it" or "Well this sucks". That's basically how the permawhite argument went. There were very few who would argue why it was better.

aaaaaand close thread :oldrazz:

And deny Guard the chance to write a pointless over analytical response? I'd never engage in such cruelty not to mention he'd probably kill himself if this entire forum were to close.

GUARD!…this is crazy: LEE BERMEJO is THE artist I think has drawn something that could be adapted into a very strong movie Batsuit. I cannot believe we were thinking of the exact same artist! (WB: PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THIS FOR NOLAN BATMAN 3!!! Let Nolan break-the-mold next time). When I noticed Bermejo had been the first to give Joker a cut smile, I figured he must be on Nolan’s radar and looked up some of his Batman drawings…hoping to maybe get a glimpse of what Nolan might do with the re-design of the suit for DK if Bermejo was indeed an artist he liked. (Obviously the DK design team did not go in this direction when all was said and done). When I found “Lex Luthor: Man of Steel”, I was really smitten with Bermejo’s Batman drawings. The impression of texture and durable, functional materials atop what is basically true to the comic book Batsuit template really worked for me. It was like looking at an old-school Batman drawing by someone like Mazzucchelli, but brought into a hyper-real focus with a strong degree of plausibility. I wish someone in Hollywood would give Bermejo some film production work. He draws beautifully AND has very interesting design ideas.

I have an overstuffed Memorial Holiday ahead of me and but I will try to get back here later today or this weekend and continue with our “Bat-Leg” discussion. I hope I am not getting too tedious with it…I don’t want to suck the air out of one of the coolest threads…especially as a newbie.

I still can’t believe we were both thinking of Bermejo. That is super cool!

We've seen clips of the suit, too. And it still doesn't look entirely right to many. The problem that really shows in the trailers is the egghead with the schnozz.

Besides, why design a suit that will only look good if it can't be properly seen? Why not use a design that's generally pleasing to the eye?

It's not possible to suck the air out of this thread. It is...everlasting.

That's the ten million dollar question.

Ah, Mazzucchelli.

*sigh*

I've posted this before.

This is rough, and not the exact design elements, but I'd want something along these lines. Not nearly as "busy", very functional looking. I'd want some kind of "texture" to the suit itself, to help it look a bit more organic, not just the "spandex" look.

Here is what I think is simply the best representation of what a live-action Batsuit should look like. The manip by Lujho.

That with the TDK cowl brow.

Do you have the lineart? I can't really see the details with it coloured in.

Meh. I'll take TDK suit over that for this movie.

The new eyebrows make him look depressed, not angry. Ludjo is overanalysing some things. The original eyebrows were just fine. But the body part of his suit is perfect!

As for artists, well one of my favourites is the guy that did Hush. His batman is great. Maybe he just needs a bit longer ears, thats all.

Bermejo is way too realistic and his suit looks heavy and leathery. Comics should take off from reality, not be stranded on to it. Thats my take on it at least. I just prefer batman to look buff, to have the chin and a huge cape.

And lets face it, the TDK suit looks scrawny compared to the Begins one. Batman should be like a freaking beast compared to his "victims". Now this slim dude in his Metal Gear suit is gonna interrogate ma balls!

"I don't think comics should be realistic, but then I will complain about t3h realismz." :o
