Captain Marvel Captain Marvel General Discussion and Speculation - Part 7

Trailer was OK. Nothing special nothing terrible. I would like it more if they put some cool 90's song in it like on Ragnarok or GotG2 trailers.

Sorry but I don't like Brie's acting. She plays powerfull warrior yet when she is not destroying spaceships she seems like shy, apathetic, introvertic person. I'm not talking about not smiling, I'm talking about showing 0 energy in her performance. Get this woman a coffee or something.

Oh, feel free to call me a sexist, say that I'm only saying that because she is a woman etc.

That's a good way to put it. Some actors just haven't what it takes to play larger-than-life characters in big-budget blockbusters, just ask George Clooney or Ben Affleck. And there's no shame in that.

Eh, Batfleck is my favorite Batman physically, so that is a nope from me. But that is for another thread. And I would welcome an older Clooney for Batman with a better script, Batman Beyond type thing. I ain't stuck on nostalgia the way of Keaton. .

I personally don't think anyone is being sexist or whatever (at least from what I've seen). I just think people are overreacting WAY too much based on a trailer. The finality with which some of you are speaking is kinda hilarious.

There are brief moments in the trailer where you can tell she delivers in the drama part. She is shown crying briefly is on the money, but we all know she can deliver that. But like the bald kid few post upstairs pointed out, get her a coffee or a redbull when she punching folks. lol Also, can we talk about that awful opening to the trailer? I laughed in not such a good way. Old lady doing flips or whatever. Awful and hilarious, don't care if its Shrek himself disguised as her, it don't play well on screen for me.

Expectations:
Carol was found by the Kree, brainwashed into believing they are good and she is one of them, but they are actually fighting Skrulls as territorial dispute in who has the more right to dominate planet Earth.
Nick finds her cause she is the lost astronaut/jet fighter pilot, tries to help her restore her memories.

Yeah as a Jason Momoa fangirl I asssure you - you are wrong.
I'll give you that Momoa gets a lot of crap for his acting, but I dunno, it just doesn't seem to be as vicious as what female actors have to go through.

Btw, I agree with you about Larson's girly voice. I have no idea what's up with that, that's not how she sounds normally.

This is not what WOMEN go through. This is specific to Brie being bland and not having charisma to pull this off. Imagine if Hollywood wasnt ageist and Charlize was playing the part. The problem is Larson. On top of this being a bad trailer.

It reminds me of the old lady scene from Legion where she goes bananas in the diner.

Please repost where I said that other trailers don't get bashed for XYZ in my post please? Because I know I never did, so nice strawman

But on to the actual points in your post worth discussing, yes Bane's height was a point of debate. No argument. I am not saying there are not examples of the opposite happening ever, but fans are more picky with female characters. Just in my experience of being on here since these movies got popular, person X is not hot enough for role Y is not uncommon at all and I do feel that complain crops up more with women. This is not an observation I am only discovering now.

I am not saying Brie Larson has to knock your sox off or anything or you're sexist. But I am asking people to do better than critique the amount of smiles and her appearance.
lol, dude, you need to seriously read what you wrote, read my response, go back and read what you wrote again, and then apply my original comment to your post that I quoted. This is literally what happened:

You: This is sexist! I have never seen that complaint for any other CBM ever, and I have seen many smileless trailers. *your examples are about smiling and her body

Me: This isn't sexist. To act like people don't tear apart trailers for other movies is just a silly thing to say. *gives multiple examples about smiling and male bodies

You: Please repost where I said that other trailers don't get bashed for XYZ in my post please? Because I know I never did, so nice strawman

Me: (*shows you what you wrote about other CBM trailers again)

You: That is not what I asked you for, bro. I said, when did I say other trailers don't get nitpicked?

lol, do you not see the problem here? You start off by saying you've never seen these types of complaints for other CBMs ever. This is apparently your proof of sexism. I then show you examples to counter your claims, and tell you it's a silly notion. You then claim I'm starwmanning you, and ask for "proof" of what you said. I show you what you just said. Then, you obfuscate, and say that's not what you asked for, you then changed it to "where did I say trailers don't get nitpicked"(even though that was never the exact point of contention). I then explain in detail, and you come back, and continue to hammer down the "nitpick" point, when again, that was never the point to begin with. You're not making any sense, as you keep doubling down. This went from "this is sexist", and me countering it, to then you talking about how this is supposedly all about people nitpicking trailers. Bizarre.

Continuing in PMs because I am not bogging this thread down any further with this exchange. I will continue it privately.

I kept waiting for epic moment and the trailer ended lol

Well I will catch it on home release I watch everything sooner or later

Yeah this looks like one I’m not in a hurry to get to the theater for. I’ll wait for the home release most likely.

And I think that's a mistake. People don't fall in love with characters based on how strong they are, they do because of their personality. That's why no one gives a crap about guys like Sentry or Hyperion.

It is far more important to prove to the GA that Carol is a compelling character worthy of their love and if you ask me, so far Marvel has failed to do that.

If you think things are bad here then I suggest you don't go on Reddit. I've seen posts with hundreds of upvotes making fun of the way she pronounced "gonna" at the end of the trailer. :hehe:
good thing we've not seen the movie yet and no one falls in love with a character just from a trailer.

I'm pretty sure Carol fighting a Skrull disguised as an old lady is something they got straight out of the comics. I think it was during Secret Invasion.
This is not what WOMEN go through. This is specific to Brie being bland and not having charisma to pull this off.
Okay. Let me know when idiots start mocking Momoa's body or run him off social media.

For example, that "noble warrior heroes" line she pits at Fury in the car ride falls so flat and awkward.
I actually love that line and her delivery, she was a bit sassy there.

People complained about Cavill not smiling?? That's crazy, never saw that
I saw plenty of "This movie is dour and completely joyless" and "the dark tone of this film doesn't match the usually upbeat Superman"
but I never heard anyone lay it at the feet of him not smiling enough. Hmm. Well, thats a weird complaint, whether male or female. Especially after only seeing the trailers.

For real? Cavill supposedly "not smiling" enough was huge around here.

Yes, but when did you hear that complaint about Chris Evans or Chadwich Boseman, etc? Henry Cavill is like, the only dude who got this complaint.
And he got it after the movie was out, not from the trailers.

I think this is part of it too. a lot of people wanted others for the role and were disappointed Brie got the role and are now taking it out on her without giving her a chance. Its like they want her to fail, so they nitpick everything. Sadly no matter how good she is in the movie some are always going to be biased against her.

Trailer 2 gets an 8/10 and I’m still hyped!

I like the cute voice. Funny story: I first watched Jessica Jones with Netflix’s French dub and thought she sounded so effing tough. One day I accidentally clicked English and I was destroyed at how girly and cute she sounded in the original English but I just kept watching it and she was still so badass!!! Jessica Jones is to date one of my favorite superhero shows out there.
