Captain Planet - An exericise in the falicy of Website Rules

We are invited but there are rules that say you can't come in swearing. So if you want to mince details and nitpick to the literal point of inanity: You can't come into someone's home and start swearing when they explicitly tell you not to. They can tell you to stop or leave and it is their right. They might let the entertainment curse up a storm, but you're not the entertainment.

Better or should I needlessly keep adding specific details and constantly refine it to the point of making sure I catch every little nuance of what is or is not permitted? Nitpicking the rules or an analogy is just an excuse anyways.

i dont buy the two seperate entities excuse. its all the same site run. these are the forums for the front page. you'd expect the standards to be the same.

Not really. You can control content you already know, it's a lot harder to control content you don't. The front page knows what the video contains and knowing that, provided a disclaimer. There's no way the administration team on this site knows what 25,000+ people registered here are going to post, hence why they need to control/censor things here. Honestly, I've personally gotten over the censoring aspect of this board. It's not that big of a deal that we can't curse and it seems obvious that I can't post naked ladies and the like. Whether you think it's hypocritical or not is up to you but at the end of the day, there is a difference between the front page and the boards.

WHY THE HECKLEBERRY AM I DEFENDING MODS?:csad:

You should have posted this instead of your extremely terrible analogy. Keep up the good work.:o

Because you like to argue and complain against the moderatorship?

Except I'm not. I see your just an overall terrible poster and not just terrible at analogies.

I was rushed. And bored. And not particularly caring how specific I made my analogy to this forum countering the typical "It's a First Amendment Right" arguments.

And yet you seem to find nothing better to do than complain... I'm a terrible poster based on two posts, one directed at you.

No please, you don't need to provide excuses. It's ok. I'm just a mere poster who has been invited to this site and told not to cuss. I am no one to demand an explanation. Please, don't let me deter you from posting any further.

You only have one chance to make a first impression. I love you.:hrt:

Is that really necessary?

Were we even debating first amendment rights?

I thought it was "They did, why can't we?"

No one is questioning that it's the big boys playground. What they say goes.
But asking 'why' was allowed last time I looked. Honestly, I'm glad this thread was made, because the same question has been floating around, behind the scenes, since the video was posted. It would be nice to have an answer from the person responsible.

And just to point it out: After that video was posted on SHH, I had no less than 4-5 SHH members I know on facebook repost it on their FB walls. Darn good business if you ask me on SHH's part.

Is that really necessary?

Yes it is. First impressions are important. If someone sees you a certain way, you are irrevocably like that forever in their minds. Unless you get one of those mind wipers from the Men In Black and make them forget.

Some people are overreacting to this (myself, I do it for the lawlz). The logic is, if I post a video with that amount of cursing on here, I would get banned. The truth is, in those type of situations, I've never seen someone get banned for an offense of that nature. I've seen mods warn the poster to take it down or just delete the post but I've never seen mods ban people for it (unless they repeatedly did it).

WHY AM I DEFENDING MODS?!?!?!?!?!

One of the admins should just give an explanation and end the debate.

Any time any one questions something the site does that members are not allowed to do it inevitably becomes a debate on First Amendment rights. This is a basic tenet of internet society. Just go with it. :D

You probably don't care but....I like you. I'm gonna keep my eye on you.:word:

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Good one bro.

I also don't buy the "separate entity" aspect. The forums are part of SuperHeroHype, a website that is constantly referred to as a family-friendly site (in justification of the rules in place). The idea being that kids come to the site. Do the powers that be think that kids don't go to the front page?

Another thing is, what was the point in even posting that video? It is not news worthy in the slightest. It had nothing to do with comic book superheros, nothing to do with any news about upcoming comic book movies. Its not only a contradiction, but its completely irrelevant to the intent of this site.

Yeah...

No.

I actually think this is a more important question than the first one.

We get Transformers and Bond news...do you think they care about a Funny or Die video not being relevant to anything on here?

You probably don't care but....I like you. I'm gonna keep my eye on you.:word:
I do care. Everyone must like me for my self worth to mean anything. If even one person dislikes me, I'm a failure.

That or sometimes I just don't think, or over react or don't see the sarcasm or am too sarcastic myself and it goes over someone's head. Like way over. It's happened before and it will again unless I can get the cannon aim adjusted just right. Last time it hit someone square in the face. Not pretty.

This is a forum which also currently hosts threads on everything from shaving the pubic area, the shutting down of pornographic films from an HIV infection and discussion on violent, graphic movies depicting all sorts of nastiness. Sometimes it's just not possible to completely be one aspect or another.

They have to draw the line somewhere and in this case it's on profanity and actual nudity.
