She's similar in her character to Debra Whitman. Peter attracts both the hotties and the nerds.Gwen was both.

I've heard people say that Gwen was a nerd before but for the life of me, I cannot remember her every being portrayed as one. 'Studious' would have been the closest thing to it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've read all of her appearances from when she first came into the book until she died and I don't remember anything along those lines.
That being said, I'm not a fan of Carlie 'forced editorial mandate' Cooper. Nothing about her and Peter's relationship seems natural . It feels like it was just shoehorned in there. I wish I had an exact count of every single time someone told Peter how 'perfect' Carlie was, cause that got way out of hand fast.

Gwen was kind of a nerd at least on a superficial visual level on "The Spectacular Spider-Man" but that's mostly because they merged elements of Debra Whitman into her.

That being said, I'm not a fan of Carlie 'forced editorial mandate' Cooper. Nothing about her and Peter's relationship seems natural . It feels like it was just shoehorned in there. I wish I had an exact count of every single time someone told Peter how 'perfect' Carlie was, cause that got way out of hand fast.

Yeah, I think that's why the relationship ultimately failed from a narrative standpoint, the writers didn't take the time to let it grow naturally, adding insult to injury at expecting fans who'd grown up with MJ as Spidey's gal to accept this interloper as her replacement.
