Cartoon Network to become "Network"

Pokemon.........................are you kidding me.

No, I'm not kidding. I liked the original Pokemon episodes (up to the end of the orange island episodes, johto was mediocre). I used to watch it everyday. I had the Pokemon game, Pokemon cards. I even watched the crappy Pokemon movie (which if I remember right was one of the reason I stopped watching Pokemon.). I still loved the tv series and the red, blue, silver, and crystal version of Pokemon games I had.

for me, the jury is still out on Wolverine and the X-Men because its just shoehoring Logan in there as the leader and that does NOT compute for me....
Once you get past the ridiculousness of Logan somehow being the guy who has to lead the X-Men or the future is doomed, it's a pretty solid show. The stories feel like solid X-Men stories, even the ones with Professor X in the future. If you stop and think about any character too much, they sort of annoy you--Cyclops is too whiny, Emma's too obnoxious, Beast still lacks his funny bone, Forge is all kinds of wrong, etc.--but overall it's a fun show with a darker tone that works for the X-Men much better than an upbeat, happy-go-lucky cartoon adaptation ever would. Nightcrawler is undeniably awesome in it, too.

I like it, Im just not IN LOVE with it....I was ok with X-Men Evolution and that was a bit goofy at times

Agreed. X-Men Evoluton was ok. Not the best show there is (wasn't in love with the show), but its not that bad. Still, to me its a better interpretation of the X-men than Smallville is an interpretation of Superman in high school.

I skipped Evolution. It drives me up a wall seeing the characters all random ages with Wolverine as a teacher to Iceman and s***.

It was ok....and he wasn't a "teacher" per se....essentially a glorified chaperone and he hung out with Charles quite a bit

I would recommend watching at least the really good episodes of Evolution. It was mostly the one-shot story episodes that had that kind of stuff.

X-Men Evolution was my favorite X-Men show and atleast stayed true even though the X-Men most of them were in high school true to its comic book status. Were esle Smallville just went all over the place. I know Smallville was a made up Superman show but still it sucked for most of its run to me. Only got into it this season. Anyways Evolution was awesome!

''The Network Gets 'Real' as 'Chowder' Fate in Air''

In an interview with me last month, animation voice actor John DiMaggio warned fans that the Cartoon Network series Chowder, "might be coming to a conclusion, but I hope the guys at Cartoon Network change their mind because it really is a great show. We’ll see what happens” (

If a recent blog post by Chowder’s creator CH Greenblatt is any indication, what’s happening doesn’t look good.

“Welcome to the new CN [Cartoon Network]!” Greenblatt begins in his July 1, 2009 posting. “As I sit here on an empty floor of an empty building looking at all the empty animation offices, I can at least put this on endless loop for some comfort.”

The "loop" Greenblatt is referring to is on his site, but it’s also on CN and YouTube. It shows Brit rocker Andrew WK discordantly promoting the new CN Real programming, stating Cartoon Network isn’t just animation anymore. The plug pushes new shows like The Othersiders, Destroy! Build! Destroy! and further live action programming foisted by the CN Real brand.

Among the hardcore animation fans, this move has caused a bit of an uproar. Noted animation historians Jerry Beck and Amid Amidi of Cartoon Brew are totally up in arms over this, calling this maneuver the “death” of Cartoon Network.

When the subject was brought up to the network, they initially promised a response, but haven’t delivered on deadline. An informed source inside CN did state that Chowder itself has not been officially canceled. The fate of the series will apparently be decided next week.

For those glass-half-full folks about there, CN just released its schedule for this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Among the Thursday panels is one on the network’s original comedy block. Among the panelists will be Greenblatt as well as Chowder voice artists Tara Strong and Dana Snyder. It could be postulated that CN wouldn’t be bringing these people to the con if their future was truly in doubt. To be fair, Greenblatt’s blog does state there are enough new episodes of his show to go through the end of 2009.

At the same time, Cartoon Brew points out an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution stating CN, as part of a major deal with parent Turner Broadcasting, is part of a deal involving the Professional Golf Association.

Does this truly mean that CN, as Cartoon Brew is speculating, is dumping a number of its animation programs for shows that basically come off as even more moronic than Jackass? Apparently, fans and foes alike will know soon enough. The Brew crew are anticipating the worst possible scenario.

Then again, as Greenblatt put on his blog a few months back, “CN doesn’t cancel shows. They just don’t renew them. This summer could change things if ratings are really good...If we do well, it'll be thanks to the dedicated fans, not the network.”

This situation, by the way, is not unprecedented. In a personal instance, in an interview with creator Dwayne McDuffie about the CN series Ben 10, McDuffie mentioned to me that he didn’t know if there was going to be a second season. The interview was published, word got out, and CN called this reporter a tad ticked off, but Ben 10 got a green light for a new season, which was all fine with me because I like Ben 10. I hope for a similar fate for Chowder.

Heh.

I would really miss that show. It's great for unwinding when I come home from a crap day at work. It's good to laugh at simple mindless shenanigans.

I remember my cousin got a promotional video in the mail for it a month before it debuted and we were instantly hooked. We went out and got the games for our gameboys and would spend countless hours on them ****s. Of course, we lost interest shortly BEFORE the movie came out. I think we watched the first 2 or 3 seasons at most

fun while it lasted....memories :word:

I just saw a long promo for the upcoming live-action reality programming on Cartoon Network shown in my local movie theater before the trailers started.

They all look incredibly annoying.

Yeah. I still play my red and my silver version sometimes.

I think Iron Man sucks in that Tony's not getting drunk and/or laid. Other than that, it's a pretty fun show.

Wolverine and The X-Men has some pretty great points to it but falls short of Evo in terms of Character & Novelty.

Boomerang and Adult Swim FTW
i hope boomerang shows more 90's CN now

not feeling Wolverine and the X-Men, its ok...but I don't buy Logan as a leader...and he's a ****** leader at that, he gets a brain hiccup and runs off to "find his past"

I find the overall story to be interesting (Prof X in the future, trying to prevent it) but it's really not captivating enough. Especially since only Wolverine and Nightcrawler have been developed.

I've seen Wolvernine and the X-Men, and while it is a well-written show, and has an appropiate tone and knowledge of the characters, it just doesn't appeal to me. Not to mention that most of the characters are under-developed, and it is sad to see Cyclops on this show since the wonderful interpretation he had in X-Men: Evolution, and the Wolverine worship can be ridiculous at times. The designs are good, though.

Iron Man: Armored Adventures is an OK show. The 3D animation is plain and boring, and the "Teen Tony" angle steals some characteristics from Tony. However, Tony, for the most part, still behaves like Tony, the designs are good, and we've had the best interpretations of the Mandarin, Madame Masque, and Whiplash yet. Not to mention the amount of attention brought in terms of character and continuity.

Batman: The Brave and the Bold is easily one of Cartoon Network's best shows currently airing. While the second half of the season has more weak episodes than the first, it still is just pure, unadulterated fun. And unlike Wolverine, the Batman worship is intentional, and a parody of how fans see him as Bat-God.

We all know about my opinions on The Spectacular Spider-Man, so let's leave it at that.

I really hope the "CN Real" block burns in hell. I've heard its on that path because the ratings have been pretty low. So it should go the same way other LA programs on CN which is cancelled.

The last remaining chunk of saving grace for this network is Adult Swim (which is still filled with great shows imo; Squidbillies, Venture Bros, Metalocalypse etc are hilarious and their syndication is great). Although they've pretty much have thrown anime under the bus.

The only shows on the normal CN that are genuinely funny and engaging are The Misadventures of Flapjack, Chowder, Batman:TBATB, The Secret Saturdays, and thats basically it.

Really hope CN Real dies soon though.

I'm glad that there are people that can look past the campiness of B:BATB and see it for the fun, engaging show it is instead of complaining that he isn't dark enough.

We all know about my opinions on The Spectacular Spider-Man, so let's leave it at that.

Excuse me for being oblivious, but what is your opinion on Spectacular Spiderman?
