The Dark Knight Rises Casting Call (All Villains)

Honestly, with Bane, why does everyone think we need a big actor to play him? As long as the actor's got the physique, movie-magic could make the actor look bigger than those he's around. LOTR, anyone?

Bane is more then muscle. He's a sophisticated, brilliant, driven, self made man who became Batman's equal.

I'm aware, but I'm not talking about that aspect. Of all people, I've been front and center against all these users who keep casting roles simply because the actor "looks the part." You know, like the fact that everyone seems to think that we apparently "need" a pretty little redhead to play Barbara or Ivy (to which, I should also add that hair color can most easily be changed, in case some people on the board haven't figured it out yet)?

I'm more than aware that we need someone who can pull of the sophisticated, intelligent, driven edge that Bane needs... But I'm referring to the fact that we don't need a huge actor to pull off Bane's part. Everyone's demanding the use of doubles or enormously sized actors, and nobody's considering the wonders that we're able to pull off with technology.

*Hurm* Right now the only real villians I can see working for the next possible flick are Riddler, Black Mask, Catwoman, and Bane; maybe Deadshot or possibly bringin' back Falcone just to give Selina some character build up. :word: Anywho, here's another round of casting choices:

Billy Boyd or Mackenzie Crook as Riddler-

Sean Bean as Black Mask-

Javier Bardem as Bane (think everybody agrees on this choice)-

And as for CatWoman................. well we'll have to take some more time workin' on that; we need some a little bit above average actress that's been nominated for an Oscar, someone who's at least award winning material, and isn't Angelina Jolie.

Agreed.

I'd sacrifice height for an actor who could be a good Bane whether they're famous or unknown. All that matter sis that they do a good job adapting him.

True.

KJ:

Haven't seen Bardem in anything yet but if he's as good as everyone says he's a good choice.

Benicio Del Toro is an actor I've been thinking of who could be a good Bane.

I agree... I've been saying exactly that for months now. The problem around these boards are, half of them probably haven't even looked into the fundamentals of acting (nor attempted to act on a large scale), and get so stir-crazy whenever they're accused of choosing actors based on looks, and nothing else.

I also see a lot of, "(S)He's never played this kind of role before, so (s)he can't do it,". Usually, it's decisions like that which drives movies into the ground. Most actors, despite popular beliefs, will look little to nothing like the roles they accept when those roles are based off of pre-rendered fictional characters.

I mean hell, look at Sin City. Half the actors in there looked nothing like their fictional counterparts- Mickey Rourke/Marv, Rosario Dawson/Gail (whose acting skills, might I add, I think are slightly underrated and she could do well as Catwoman), Powers Boothe/Senator Roark (who, might I also add, could fit well into a number of characters in this series of Batman films).

(Major, this rant isn't pointed at you, so I apologize if it seemed that way)

Oh, you should see him in No Country For Old Men; he's phenominal. :wow:

And yeah, I can see Del Toro workin' for the role too; IMO Bardem kinda ranks a little higher because he has that deep iconic voice. :word:

I understand.

I say Christian Slater for black mask.

I wonder if Christian Slater was ever seriously considered to play the Joker since he has pretty much built his whole career on acting like Jack Nicholson Jr.

Although I think 3 villains would be overkill, Catwoman doesn't count....so

Ashley Scott as Catwoman

Of Course I'd like Depp as The Riddler
JohnnyDepp1.jpg

and Billy Zane as Black Mask

I can see Scott and maybe Zane, but Depp's dead to me as far as Nolan's world goes.

There you go folks, cause killing joke said so. No depp in any Nolan Directed movie.

Well I don't agree, but everyone is definitely entitled to their opinion. So don't be so hard on KillingJoke.

Damn straight. :brucebat:

Nah, it's just that there's really no originality casting Depp for Riddler or Joker or anybody in Nolan's world; same with Jolie. We all know they'd do amazing jobs, but Nolan's take cast wise is most often curve balls and kinda less known people; we all know this and somewhere in everybody here knows that there this year's Paul Bettany, Tim Roth, or Liev Schreiber for Joker or Two face. They're just unrealistc choices and we know that there's not a chance that they're gonna get the role. I encourage choices that are outta the box nobody would think of or ideally made for the role rather than just doing the role; people just agreeing with one person who's only a fan favorite just get's old.

Really? So you'd complain less if Zane was cast as Sionis than Depp as Riddler? And let's not even start about Scott as Selina.

People might be averse to Depp being Riddler since they want a new take on the idea then a Joker clone. We've already had that done once. No need for a repeat.

I understand everyones got their own opinion, but i think it should be clear who would be absolutely perfect for the Riddler.

Yes, and to those people I tell nothing. But to hear that one would actually understand Scott being cast more than Depp..... well, that must be some aversion.

That's why I'd prefer him to be Riddler. If I wanted to watch a movie with Joker in it I'd watch the real thing not one using the Riddler's name. It's a waste of the Riddler's character, as well. He can be more then a Joker clone.

I'm sorry, I lost you.

Are you saying you'd prefer Depp to be the Riddler than the Joker, or none of the aforementioned?

And you do know that I'm talking about Ashley Scott as Selina, right?

I'd prefer Depp to be Joker.

Him being Riddler is just tempting another Joker-lite situation.

And you do know that I'm talking about Ashley Scott as Selina, right?

I should have responded to that separately.

I'm against Scott as CW but not as much as Depp.

Oh, because you wrote "I'd prefer him to be Riddler". Me too, btw, I'd want him to be the Joekr more than the Riddler.

E tu, Major? You'd prefer an untalented TV actress to an extremely talented actor, no matter how overexposed he may be in some people's minds?

Though, I must say, I don't get how Depp as Riddler would guarantee a Joker-clone. In BF it wasn't Carrey's fault only, it was Joel's and Akiva's fault for direction and characterization. I don't see how the Nolans would go to the same direction.

1. Yes. Though I wouldn't prefer either in those roles.

2. I don't think she's untalented.

In most of his roles Depp usually goes very campy. I know he can do more but I'd rather someone else do it to avoid that happening under any circumstance.

Great Choice for Mr. Freeze! Colm Freore would be good. Maybe the closest one yet...
