Because I believe this should be a Green Lantern film not a Green Lantern Corps film.

The character has never been done in live action before so they should stick to the classic Abin Sur origin story with Hal Jordan. Throwing in a bunch of other human Green Lanterns in the same film devalues the importance of that classic origin.

It isnt about a definitive Green Lantern. Its about which human GLC member came first. They can add John and Guy in the sequel but it seems logical and wise to start with Hal Jordan.

They didn't do that for Batman in 1967 and in 1989. They didn't do it for X-Men either. so why do you think it is necessary now?

I think Matt Dillon would be a good Hal but I could just be an idiot. Please dont be a smart ass and confirm that I'm an idiot.

Matt Dillon

No, you're not. Matt Dillion is not a bad choice.

John Stewart- Mos Def

OMG! :wow: That's disgustingly hot! Do you realize what Mos Def could do with John Stewart?!? Good googlymoogly, that's just disgusting, dnno... you should be ashamed of yourself, casting massively talented and underrated actors for massively powerful and underrated characters. Ashamed!

Seriously, I would watch that movie ten times in a row.

A Green Lantern movie needs no one other than Hal. OK, well maybe Kilowog. All you really need is Hal, Kilowog, and some other alien Green Lanterns. I don't get why Earth is allowed to have more lanterns represented in the corps more than anyone else. Makes no sense to me.

Awww... you don't read the comics, huh? :)

There's a very nice Hal propaganda thread here: "Your GL Movie"
I believe comments of this agenda and logic would fit better there. I could restate my arguements against those points here if you feel it is necessary.

Decent casting choices. As far as direction of the movie, I'd like to see Antoine Fuqua give it a go. I think his resume has more hits than misses, and I think he could up the ante as far as the action aspect as well as the issues that the current GL would be dealing with, without making it campy. I'm sure fanboys are looking at a Spielberg type to direct, but he would be someone I'd want in the running, just on Training Day and Tears of the Sun alone. That and he directed Lightning in a Bottle, my favorite documentary ever.

I read the comics. And Earth seems to be the only planet with 4 of their species as Green Lantern.

It seems on every other planet that's represented in the Corp., whenever someone in one race is killed, someone else of the same race takes their place.

That is possibly because there are a lot of worlds in sector 2814 (at least that we know of). Out of the 3600 sectors, there are a vast number that have not been written about and have yet to know how many are from other planets.

Hmmm. Well, Hal got it from Abin Sur, Bodikka got her new ring (in recent GL 13) from someone I'm not even sure was from her sector. The rules are a LOT more flexible than that, but I think the basic issue is that Earth is a special case. Earth is the only planet with 4 of their species as GL because, among MANY other things, Earth is the only Planet who had a GL possessed by Parallax and The Spectre and Earth was home to the last remaining GL for years. That simple. These are both rediculously unlikely, however, I think if we realize that GL comics are written by writers biased towards Earth, and that there may be other planets so inclined (who patrols Salaak's sector?) we perhaps can let this go.

But the truth is it makes our favorite characters (in my case John) feel less special, because there's two more of him (Kyle's not a GL anymore) running around somewhere. I, being the generous type, would much rather see these GL's differentiated (Guy being the honor guard, Hal being... Hal) that to eliminate the "competition" cuz that's just not what GL is about. The characters all have way too much history.
